i'm surprised nobody has mentioned this already, but this is big in asia. in fact in hong kong they have big tournaments for games like lineage that are played in big stadium theatres and broadcast on national television. gaming in asia is taken a lot more seriously than it is in the united states...
after its initial inception in the 50's was in friday the 13th 3d. it was a crappy movie for sure (like most 3d movies, as they were often first 3d gimmick and second a movie, in that order), but it made good use of the effect and a new generation of movie goers were exposed to it once again. the 80's saw a new explosion of new, crappy 3d movies like jaws 3d, and an explosion of them in theme parks as well, like captain eo...
dunno who else saw this, but in related news fatwallet 'protector of price and purveyor of outstanding offers' is fighting back at the same stores that went after then. especially walmart. got this newsbit over at arstechnica.
i can beat that. the bank i used to work for had a large ivr that ran on a highly customized 286. but remember, we are talking about very customized machines. there is no such thing as a quad 486 in the consumer world. so it is hard to compare them to a 'realworld' pc...
i think most people feel a little more secure doing their banking on a single iseries machine rather than a bunch of emachines held together with bubblegum and bandaids (okay so that is a little harsh). i guess what i'm saying, is that the mindset of pc makers and mainframe/midrange makers are VERY different. pc makers don't worry too much about redudency or reliability. 'that's microsoft's job', the common thinking goes. i will say it is a lot easier to do things right when you control the entire system (like ibm does). you can set the rules, and if you do it right, you don't step on any toes...
yeah that would be nice. i'm feeling very patriotic today and like the good american i am, there are way too many words here to read. how about a synopsis with a few pictures...
the next version (which addresses several issues) should be out in a day or two as well. this is a great project to keep an eye on (and in my opinion is a little more flexable than some of the other solutions out there right now). =)
or strange use anyway, take a look at story and then take a look at this book titled power of maps. this guy mapped EVERYTHING. makes this mapmaker in the story look kinda boring.;)
umm, if you need 20 monitors to do your work perhaps you need to switch to another platform.
imovie is free btw, so i don't really understand people bitching about it. people who buy stuff for their machine w/o making sure it will work w/ what they are using don't get a lot of pity from me. when you spend over $2000 to buy a machine that you have a certain purpose in mind for, make sure it can do what you want before you pull out your credit card. sheesh.
i can't think of the last time (since they started charging for support) i or anyone i know has ever gotten much useful help out of a call to microsoft support w/o putting a fat charge on their credit card and sitting on hold forever.
i understand the point you are trying to make (apple doesn't deserve all the zealotry they get, they don't walk on water and they aren't the solution for everyone) but the point i'm trying to make is that you have to be an informed consumer if you expect the product you just bought will just work for you out of the box. don't go spending your money on something that you haven't done research on to make sure it will do what you want. if you bought a powerbook for the purpose of video editing and recording to a dvd, perhaps you should have made sure you could do what you needed before you laid your visa down. (btw, if you didn't notice, all those ads showing the powerbook editing video in dv magazine and the like are running final cut pro (the same software you say does more than you want), not imovie so you can't claim they are advertising it falsely. lastly, you could have easily checked apple's site or even the drives manufacturer to make sure the drive was supported under the software you wanted to use.)
i'm sure apple has data on this. granted they have an interest in the outcome and therefore may have a bias on the reults. however i would bet that when you run the numbers, proportionate to apples average sales to their already installed base, a large percentage of 'switchers' are linux users (with windows switchers as the greater majority obviously). granted, this doesn't necessarily mean they have literally 'switched', instead it may just mean they have 'appended' their platform choice.
i dunno if any of you old skool wired readers remember this article about paradise island home of some of the world's most famous satellite and cable hackers. a constant cat and mouse game between the hackers and satellite and cable box developers/content distributors. and the interesting thing is that both sides seem to enjoy the battle of wits.
one of the things i enjoy about my gamecube is that my girlfriend plays games with me. in fact there are a lot of games she likes a lot. part of the problem with the xbox lineup is that for her, there isn't much that she would like to play. the ps2 is the only real competition to the gamecube for games she enjoys playing (both as a team/competition or single player).
this is a general problem with the gaming industry, that is, ignoring girls, who i see as a huge untapped market potential. i know a LOT of girls who dig games. it is unfortunate there aren't more interesting titles targeting girls (and i don't mean barbie titles) and women gamers as the gaming audience is expanding in age range. i'll bet you know a few girl gamers too (or am i underestimated the/. crowd's ability to socialize beyond their computer?).
well most of the reviews i read said it wasn't a lot different from the earlier versions, but that isn't a bad thing if you haven't played the earlier versions.
<jehoovermode=on>you did it didn't you? i know you did because you seem to know too much about this.</jehoovermode>
sure it isn't a solution to the problem but it is a step... popfile!

no, this is engrish.
and now you can get those games and a few others in the sega mega sonic collection for gamecube!
