  3. The reason they are the best value for money is because they use good parts, but don't add a massive markup to the price. This keep the prices down and the quality up.

  4. Same reason as people buy phones with American data mining software like Google Framework, Facebook, Amazon, Icloud etc. They like the apps and are willing to sacrifice their privacy for some of the features provided. If you're concerned about privacy then you should probably avoid smartphones and/or the Internet.

  7. Who makes the custom roms? Google, and some l33t h4ck0r who puts who knows what into the roms. There's no privacy on smartphones.

  8. Google and Facebook are spyware and collect a lot more data about people than anything Xioami collects. Not to mention all the thousands of smartphone apps that track your location and useage activities. Apple say they aren't but doing this, but I'd take that claim with a pinch of salt. Even this very web page on Slashdot sends tracking data to 8 different third party web domains (if you don't have a script blocker). Welcome to cloud based computing.

The Internet plays into the swarm mentality that humans have. It's just that that swarm mentality is more exposed than ever now. People just go with whatever they are brainfed and are less diverse than they think. Let's look at some of the math:. Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, Republican, Democrat, BBC and A small number of popular news agencies That's a very small number of sources that humans are swarming towards. Yes there are alternatives out there.... But they ellipse the competition. Who uses the alternatives? We've let a small number of groups take over how we get information and how we shop.

  18. Re:Magisk had replaced SuperSU a long time ago on SuperSU, a Popular Root App For Android, Disappears From Google Play Store (androidpolice.com) · · Score: 1

Rooting your phone with any software is risky. Nearly all rooting software looks for exploits in your phone that allow them to gain root permissions (ie take over your phone). They upload a bunch of software to your phone that is now completely writable. Most people who root their phones have no idea what they are uploading to their phones. There could be malware, proxy software, bots, trojan horses, you name it Then of course there's the fact that there's only the superuser app between preventing any apk (play store or external) from having full access to your phone. That's a lot of trust to put in one third party app. Remember, not all malware announces it's existence. Some malware likes to go quietly undetected while it does it's thing. I wouldn't touch a rooted android device with a bargepole. A non-rooted device already gives app developers way too much access and information.
