  1. All the education you need! on Marketing On a .EDU Domain · · Score: 2, Insightful

A legal loophole that exploits school should not be allowed. Not only do our tax dollars go to school so that they can have .edu domain names, but they are being exploited. On the other side, this will make a lot of money! I have to applaud the people who made this because they were smart and will make a lot of money. This will likely be a large blog, based on some stats I have of old blogs.

  2. Space future? on Rocket Racing League Ready To Launch · · Score: 2, Interesting

They could possibly use this idea for future space technology testing. They could use a much smaller version of the rockets and see how well it works with earth parameters. Nasa has programs where they test rockets by racing them like this, but it's not nearly as well funded as this because this rocket program with Nasa is very experimental.

It was actaully a very skimmed down version of Linux, you couldn't input any commands because he couldn't figure out how to get it working with the keys on the TI83, it just ran on the hardware. It took about a minute to start up, a minute to shutdown. It wasn't Linux, but it was very Linux like in terms of code, so I just considered it to be Linux. Overall, it was a waste of $120 CAD to ruin a calculator and get no credit of this feat. :(

  4. Times likes these... on Building a 5-Ton Calculator From 19th-Century Plans · · Score: 0, Redundant

It's times like these when I appreciate my my TI83 weighing in at about 12 ounces. It may be seemingly complicated to do graphs and hard fuctions, but it's damn smaller! (Plus, if you mod it enough, you can run Linux. A friend of mine actually did that!)

  5. Reverse Engineering? on Laser Triggers Electrical Activity In Thunderstorm · · Score: 1

After reading this article, and doing a little research, I discovered some facts proving that with a little hard work and a little development, they may be able to reverse engineer technology like this to extract energy from storms. This would be useful for to stop lightning from hitting major cities. Some places uses planes to drop a gas into storm clouds to stop storms, it is very risky, but also makes tornadoes a little more mild, believe it or not.

  6. Electricity source? on Laser Triggers Electrical Activity In Thunderstorm · · Score: 4, Interesting

If the cost of the lasers and the energy for them didn't cost to much, it may be a possibility in the future to create energy using lightning strikes. Due to the infrequency of lightning, no one has ever made a great effort to try this. If the technology is cheap enough, this would be a great test and possibly a future energy source.

It's okay to be snooping in on certain emails. Email regarding business makes sense, but not email regarding personal issues. A lot of people use their business email as their personal email as well. But if people are sending emails to co-workers via the business address, and the boss is viewing these emails, it is a violation of their privacy. Plus when you're reading their emails, you start to look like a perverted freak.

I'm considering getting rid of my MacBook because it gets too hot, but if they can manage to make one for the MacBook, then hell ya! I'm gonna get one. 19. 2D Games Are The Greatest! on Who Says 2D Gaming is Dead? · · Score: 1

I remember the first time I played Super Mario Bros. on my uncles Nintendo! That was the best game I ever played. I've played Grand Theft Auto, plenty of racing games and Super Mario Bros. is still the best. You just can't find the original version anywhere these days! I think a great idea for the original game makers would be to release the original version. That was the only good Mario game, everything after that had was too complex (for a Mario game.) I also liked Pong. It gets boring and repetitive after a while and is nowhere as good as Super Mario Bros. but it was fun.

3D games are plenty of fun too. Has anyone ever played Nexuiz? It's an open source 3D first person shooter similar to Quake and Unreal Tournament. Very fun! It works on Macintosh, Windows, and Linux. I would recommend it to anyone.

  20. The Pros and Cons of Epaper on Electronic Paper's Past and Future · · Score: 2, Insightful

I don't think epaper will make a huge difference in our life in the years to come. The biggest reason is that it's overpriced. A laptop is a good example. Laptops go from $400 to thousands. On the upside, they will save you money after you have used at least 400000 (four hundred thousand) sheets of paper roughly. It is also more environmentally friendly and efficient. Not to mention more organized and smaller! However you've also got battery life... It works just as well without the price and no batteries required. If you could make some sort of pocket book that had an easy input method such as a widely sold stylus and a battery life lasting at least 200 hours on full power. I think for now I will stick with good old fashioned paper.

  21. My Word: on iPhone, iPod Touch 1.1.1 Firmwares Jailbroken · · Score: 1

This is great that someone keeps hacking Apple's firmware. I like the idea of people hacking Apple's firmware, but I don't like the idea of people complaining every time Apple voids their warranty for it. It takes time and money for Apple to repair or send you a new

iPod or iPhone. However Apple shouldn't brick their iPhone or only limit it to AT&T. This stuff has been in the news a lot lately. So be careful when you're hacking these things. I honestly hate how Apple prevents people from changing things in their firmware but if you think about it, it's for your own good and to save Apple time and money from the warranties.

A good solution to this problem for Apple is to allow firmware patches. This however would require them to have open source jukebox firmware. If you can find a better solution to this, please post. Until a good idea is found that allows hacks and warranties, I'm going to listen to my Rockbox Enabled iPod.

PS. I only use Rockbox because I don't much care about my iPod Video. Although it is the center of my life, I can just buy another one.

  22. Outragous! on Ballmer Suggests Linux Distros Will Soon Have to Pay Up · · Score: 1

This whole thing is getting out of control. Ballmer is way too greedy. He doesn't look at the smaller, but smarter group of people that use Linux. Last time I checked I believe it was only around 20,000,000, Linux users versus around a billion Windows users. Another thing about this whole thing is you notice how you always see the Bill Gates AIDS charity stuff before you hear anything about this in the news? I think that a lot of this AIDS charity stuff and Bill Gates being all great is a smoke screen so that Windows can eliminate Linux in a slimy way without being noticed and they can get a good reputation anyway. If there ever is a lawsuit Microsoft will lose even though all the lying cheating lawyers are working for Microsoft. I guess they just like to hang out with their own kind.
