It started off with Usenet access, and I do remember the shitstorm when AOL opened those floodgates. What a sad time that was.
What, you didn't like millions of people letting you know, "I'M HERE!!!"
You seem to be forgetting the up side. Setting up filters so you didn't see posts from anyone who was on AOL. That usually was one hell of an easy way to better your SNR.
I am sick of hearing about patent lawsuits. It is sad that the industry can't work together to create unique products and actually innovate instead of stagnating one another.
Unfortunately this seems to be the way of things anymore. Nobody wants to work together, just snipe each other for a buck.
Democrats and Republicans refuse to agree on things that they actually agree on.
Religious and non-religious people continue to throw away what they claim to stand for to stick it to each other
I suppose there has always been a divide between the rich and poor, but it's become worse. Both in the amount of money separating them, but also what one class expects of the other now too.
Governments are turning on each other and their own people in far too many cases
I don't think we ever lived on an idealistic planet where we all looked out for one another, but it seems that we all look for problems to blame on others more than I remember in the past. Perhaps we've just gone too long without a world war in which anyone had to actually sacrifice anything. So we are just turning on each other. The lawyers and large corporations seem to be the only ones benefiting. It's kind of sad really.
Seeing the amount of hate spewed by the so call religious right lately, I have SERIOUS doubts that is the problem.
Just fucking stop, please. There's plenty of hate being spewed from the left, right and center. How about we all stop pointing fingers and shouting that it's "the other sides fault!" Then maybe we can all take some responsibility for the state of things and start to fix it.
The complexity, and getting-sued risk, of tech patents are just so high that we need good, honest, businessmen like Intellectual Ventures to help us sort it all out for a small fee...
Why didn't they just name this company Intellectual Vultures? I would at least respect them for their honesty if they did.
Couldn't you find a source that doesn't sound like it was written by a 14 year old British girl?
It get is evern better in TFA
I love the smell of ironic aliteracy in the morning!
You forgot to highlight "evern" too. Not sure I would consider typos as quite the same form of "aliteracy[sic]" as an author who intentionally uses "the fruit firm", "Sammy", "mobe", etc.
In the same way that smart phones killed of mp3 players and cameras for a lot of people. Why by a single purpose device when you can get many more features for a little bit more money?
Perhaps. I use my phone as a camera if it's all I have with me. But when I know I want take pictures when I go somewhere I'll take my Canon 40D, or even one of my smaller point an shoots. Any of those are going to give me a far superior picture compared to a phone camera. But when I see people taking pictures of something 50+ feet away using the flash on their phone, I suppose they really don't care about the quality of the picture.
I travel somewhat frequently and rarely use my phone to listen to music. I don't like it when I land and don't have enough battery power to make call. I'd like to be able to do this as I could stop carrying my mp3 player. But I don't care for the interface on my phone for music and It's pretty rare that the battery dies on my mp3 player before I land.
I've often wondered if the more efficient PSUs used better capacitors. If the extra cost needs to be offset by longer usage, will the capacitors hold up better/longer? I would guess that if the PSU runs cooler it should be an improvement in the capacitors useful life too. But the total output from a PSU decreases over time. I've used this PSU calculator over the years. In footnote 4 they mention the decreased output over time.
Cash transactions at banks over $10,000 are subject to special reporting requirements, thanks largely to the War on Drugs. It wouldn't surprise me if trying to make any kind of cash transaction for $16K draws unwanted attention in the current police state environment.
Obviously, she was taking the money she earned selling drugs, and laundering it by buying iPhones for cash, then reselling them. Makes perfect sense to a cop, who has been trained to assume that EVERYBODY is a criminal....
You need to come up for air more often. The war on drugs is so 1990's. It's all about terrorists now. We all know she was buying the phones for Al-Qaida. They probably figured out that taping an iPhone to a string attached to a trigger is a 99% reliable way to detonate a bomb. After all, what American could resist picking up a shiny new iPhone.
While the price and features of the Redbox service are similar to what's offered by Netflix, its library is smaller and focused mainly on the most popular Hollywood fare, which Strickland says are the movies that "really matter in the marketplace."
Well, that pretty much rules out my tastes, then. No thanks.
Agreed. I joined Netflix several years ago because of all of the things they rented that I couldn't get at the local rental places.
I realize the hell it would cause due to standards and current format output from BD/DVD. But wouldn't this make more sense as a display for watching movies rather than for a computer?
Maybe the corporate taxes should be set at a more favorable rate. 20% of something is still more than 35% of nothing. (or whatever the current tax rate is.). Additionally we could simplify the tax code so these companies don't need to spend millions on their accounting and tax lawyers. Unfortunately we'd probably have to shoot all of the politicians first as this is where many of them came from, and are paid in campaign contributions to do.

No amount of ranting is enough in this matter. Windows 8 is trash.
Sadly Windows RG is starting to look more and more like a step up.

are the ones that have already served time in jail and were released because they were 'adequately rehabilitated?"
If that was the precursor for releasing anyone, all sentences would be for life. There is no "rehabilitation" in prison.
One of two things happen in prison:
1) Either it's such a scary ass place the incarcerated try like hell to never break the law and end up there again or,
2) They learn to be an even better criminal by learning from their fellow inmates.
I'll let you guess which way that usually works.
Sorry, I forgot number 3) They leave in a body bag.
If the general population discovers you are in for being a child molester, the odds of number three go up considerably.

It seems we skipped the sentient AI and killer robots.
Like that's a bad thing?
John Connor: These wires are made of what?
The Terminator: A mimetic poly-alloy.
John Connor: What the Hell does that mean?
The Terminator: Liquid metal.
You would have to have a high IQ to come up with this study!
Or Dr. Owen is a smart guy that doesn't test very well.
I give the study a score of 65.

No kidding.
WTF is a "sammy mobe?"
Does it come with fries?
It get's evern better in TFA; "The Korean firm is no doubt quite chuffed that its mobes and fondleslabs can stay on sale in the US"
This statement alone should say it all:
"users are getting used to dealing with Windows 8"
If it was such a "success" wouldn't you expect users to do more than deal with it.

. . . die by the sword. I hate Sony with the heat of a thousand suns, but would love to see them make Apple write an eight figure check.
Unfortunately the only real winners will be the lawyers.
The ZX didn't fly back in the day either. /rimshot
That depends on how hard you threw it.

Won't be long before laptops look like ironing boards.
Hmm. If we make them buoyant and waterproof they can double as a surfboard. Too bad Apple owns rounded corners. ;-)

invisible pink
I'm pretty sure I can't find "invisible pink" in my daughters crayons. What does that look like exactly?

this is Slashdot. Stupidity is not tolerated here,
You must be new here.
