"Firewire might pay for itself in high speed applications where time == money, but it is sever overkill"

So why are they making USB 3.0?
If it like you say, why not work on improving USB 2.0 instead of making a new version.

Most users will just use the ports provided on their computer and not bother with PCI cards, and most computers these days come with firewire.

Me and others have invested money into firewire devices and at the end of the day firewire it still faster and USB is theoretical.

So don't say it about saving cost when they are after getting more money out of you by jacking up the bandwidth that you will never get.

If USB works for low end devices now why add more complexity.

There is no point to high bandwidth USB because it is by design not suited for high bandwidth.

Nothing is really new theses days but instead off OOo of playing catch up with Microsoft they should have gone in a new direction but 10 years later someone is doing it again.
It does not mater who invented it first, I just wish that FOSS would look beyond was Microsoft is doing. Take other FOSS programs for instants.

    Compiz
Was no were near the first to bring desktop effects, but they took it light years ahead than anyone else.

    Firefox
Again it looks much the same as IE , but the extensions give it so much more power, and it when beyond just for looking at web pages.

I hold my hand up and say I don't know all the features in OOo but I guess they are just clone of Office.

They are so many was to display information and tools (Pie menu,ZUI,Stacks) why just stick to one.

And that's my main point every time I used OOo it bring nothing new to the table, but just clones of old features

I really hope OOo becomes a good alternative to Office because it will help with Linux adoption.

Put it this way I can say to my customers here's OOo and it does the same as Office they will ask me two thing is it really Free and will I have to retrain my employes.

I would say yes it is free and no you will not have to retrain you employes and they would have a look, I would get "This is brilliant"
So I would install it and two days later I would get a phone call saying where's this feature and the print out's don't look the same. So I would have to revert them back to Office

For me to sell something I need it to be better than what's they are using now because they are not going to leave for freedom they will leave when it brings better features

Wow when I first read the title I thought at last some one has come up with a new GUI for OOo and again it is cloning Microsoft.

OOo and linux in the desktop space need to set itself apart form other software by been new and not a cheep solution to an old problem.

It is a shame because I like the Ribbon. FOSS should have come up with this years ago instead of just copying Microsoft.

I hate Microsoft products and refuse to use them but if you in the IT Industry you can not escape them.

When I was setting up an company's software stack. They insisted that it be the lasted Office,
I begged with them not to get it and cited my reasons
(New UI,New File format, cost, etc) The first time I used Office2007 I was really impressed,
For the first time ever I think Microsoft deserves a pat on the back.

The best way I can put it is I work under the same way as doctors.
I know more about computers (body) than you BUT it is your system (body), whether you take my recommendation is up to you.
So maybe some times the customer knows what's better for themselves than some pros do.

I get lots of old computers so I make little projects out of them like a firewall or make it a media receiver, I turn an old AMD laptop in to a GeeXbox (http://geexbox.org/en/index.html)
Strip out the component, made a case so the laptop was speed vertical
wall mounted it, add an IR receiver, plug it in to my network, feed the sound to my Hi-Fi
Now I can access my music for downstairs. I tried to get X11 forwarding with sound so I could watch HD but It was a bit funky.

After reading this article I came to the realization that I am what the media companies fear the most. tech savvy, young, high IQ (seams I have big ego as-well)

Why because I know enough about the internet to stop ads , why do I block all internet ads because there's to many of them, I sick of them so I put a stop to all of them it's the advertise own fault.

I also download all my TV show even UK show, Why because I don't like been interrupted during a show for five-ten minuets, and I have the bonus of been able to watch when I want to.

But I also don't want to rip off the shows I like, so why can't they just drop the DRM. Say I go to my show website and when I get the download page some light ads, and during my show about half way through it show a 30sec ad and then goes back to my show. So what if some one uploads to a P2P the ad spreads across the internet. yes some people might remove the ads but why for 30sec?

Also itunes is just to expensive £1.99 a show WTF!!! All tho I suspect that this is on purpose to make us by Physical media instead, because they get higher margins and with the writers strike all about digital distribution, there margins are even smaller now so they are going to resist as much as possible.

As for channel skipping when at my relatives house I just go to a music channels for a bit until the ads are over.

You got to be mental recently I have been using my uncle's hotmail and it is by far the worst web mail I have ever used and I used most of the big ones (Yahoo, AOL, etc) at one time or another.

There's like five places to log in live.com hotmail.com and some others I can think of, why does Microsoft keep rebranding it.

It riddled with ads and not small ads but big pictures ads and using adblock brakes some functions,
it takes like half an hour for mail to send,
    the upload limit is crap,
I know of at lest ten business that have separate Gmail account just for sending attachments.

There's some classic version for old browsers but it has some big hissy fit about and I know Gmail have alternative version
but it does not jump from one to the other on the same browser and computer in-between logins

And when he gave his login details and I could not login because I was not putting the @hotmail.com I thought to myself how archaic.

Gmail is so good I have stop using a Email client and just use the web interface
the day Microsoft make an web mail that make me not use an email client is the same day the devil takes ice skating lessons

I am posting this post on an iMAC 24' and I have been building my own systems since 1997 and have used Linux since 2000 and I have become what I have always hated, A mac fan-boy. I love Linux and what it stands for, but the easy of use on a mac is just incredible and as far as the all in one aspect the only people who upgrade all the time are gamers and server admin. the mac is aimed at the desktop and multimedia and it does the job. and will stand the test of time a lot better than a white box than can only be upgraded once or twice before an new socket or bus comes out and you need to upgrade the whole thing. I was so impressed that I bought my cousin an old G4 imac For years I would not touch a mac because it was Apple and evil lock-in but now that I used a mac what lock in. Apple have do some wrong thing like stooping ipod Linux users but compare to Microsoft they kittens in this department The only thing I miss is the command line, I know OS X has one but it's just not the same. going from CML to GUI was a pain but now I could only recommend mac to people now as you have most of the advantages of linux and windows in one product
