  2. Well... on Is Linux's "Overall Market Share" Statistic Meaningful? · · Score: 5, Insightful

These statistics seem to a be a bit flawed. Windows has 90% of the market, Mac OS X has 9%, and Linux has 1%. However, Linux is heavily used in servers, handhelds, and other devices. Not to mention, the fact that there is no way reliable way to track Linux installs (100s of dstributions with users installing everywhere and no phoning home to report it).

I don't think this statistic is meaningful. I think Linux should keep chugging along and show the world that freedom, volunteers, and good will can equal money. Something to tip the scales...

I like the look, I like the layout, now lets just hope that it follows through as intended. If so, this could be a great resource for both experienced pros as well as new users.

I like the new look too.

Hopefully Linux.com amounts to something more useful than a news aggregator.

Maybe it could host video and image tutorials on how to use popular Linux distributions. That would be helpful for new users as I often have to sit down with them and explain Linux and how to use it. Then I start getting calls at odd hours of the night on how to install programs or why a certain program isn't working.

I respect your opinion, but you really must know. China is trying raise its public image with the rest of the world. Much of the world does not like China. Unfortunately, taking away awareness of an issue is not fixing an issue. The rest of the world (or at least most of it) would like China to fix the issue rather than try and cover it up. The US and the UK are getting really bad too, but that doesn't make what any country is doing right. The only way to get justice is to show your displeasure. Lisp implementations are very good. I have been programming for a while in many languages. My favorite implementation is Arc (or the community version Anarki). Lisp is inherently simple so the programmer spends more time planning and designing good code than working around the inefficiencies and design problems of the language itself.

Have you ever noticed that PCs are so inefficient compared to gaming consoles? Gaming consoles are good for gaming and computing, not to mention compiling.

I hope that one day, everyone will have a gaming console (and that they follow a structured set of guidelines) and that we will mobile devices to interact with our network. Our mobile device will be our cell phone, our, music player, our web browser, our email client, and general purpose gadget. Things like this already exist, but they do not follow a structured set of guidlines that let each device perform in a similar manner with communication protocls and etc. that allow companies to pursue improvement and innovation rather than cheap business practices and vendor-locked, proprietary devices/protocols.
