Just to clarify, he's talking about the *purchase each episode individually* scenario on Amazon. (IMHO, ridiculously expensive.)
It's not available on (free with Amazon Prime) Amazon Prime Video. That's only (some?) HBO shows several years old. That's not meaning to disparage it, it has a bunch of good shows (e.g. Rome, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, etc.) Just not currently airing shows.
Amazon devices sales are terrible because they don't have Google Play app marketplace. End of story. Everyone who wants to get locked in to a content ecosystem where they are forced to buy devices from one source already owns Apple products.
Ironic.. You're saying it's bad because it doesn't have the official marketplace for Android, yet you're talking about being locked into a distribution system?!!
That is misleading, if not false. I infer from that statement that you mean it was founded by the U.S. Government. Wikipedia confirms what I remembered:
Beginning in 1820, the region was colonized by African Americans, most of whom were freed slaves.
It did have help from a private organization, but not the U.S. Government.
Why shouldn't people who work in the fast food and service industries earn a living wage even when they work more than 50 hours a week?
Because they're minimum wage jobs. Should someone really expect to be able to buy a house on minimum wage? Again, those jobs weren't meant for people's _careers_. (Why didn't they go to college? Community college even.)
In the 70s, when cable TV first started rolling out, one of the big selling points was "no ads."
Not true, since cable TV started out as literally a shared antenna with cables to each house.. So it was "just" getting OTA, which obviously still had/has commercials in it.
Plus, even if that WERE true, just use a VCR or nowadays a DVR. (Though there are RARE times I will use On Demand for a show with 'forced' commercials.. Though several commercial-cable channels end up having their shows On Demand WITHOUT commercials, so it's even better than DVRing it for those shows.)
*I* don't pay credit card companies interest, since I auto-pay my cards every month. So I get an interest free loan for an average of 15 days, cash back, AND it's more convenient than cash.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but can you provide a citation? I didn't think those "counted" as credit card purchases, even if they were using the same network, since they DO take money directly from your account at time of purchase.
The same company that made thalidomide also made penicillin. You're saying that Monsanto can never have any good product again?
Also, I had wrongly thought your "killed more people" actually related to *food related* products. It doesn't, so it's even more tangential to the discussion of GMOs.
In areas where Roundup-ready corn has established hegemony, such massive quantities of pesticides have to be used that half a dozen studies have shown sick people with high concentrations of those pesticides in their internal organs.
You do realize you're supposedly refuting "A DOES NOT HAPPEN" by saying "B HAPPENS".
Just because they're using *other* pesticides (unnecessarily?) does not mean THE GMOs THEMSELVES caused any problems.
It's often common wisdom that you can fill whatever hunger you have by eating piles of fruits and vegetables as snacks. Nobody ever says this outright, but they recommend directly to eat fruits and vegetables if hungry between meals. Imagine just sitting at your desk all day, munching Doritos and pretzels; now imagine being healthy by eating an apple, two kiwi fruit, and munching on a two pound bag of cherries. As you observe, people wish to believe fruit is good for you and actively makes you healthier, and so eating a ton of it makes you a ton healthier.
I think you're making a bad leap there. Much of the reason that eating fruit is better for you (at least compared to Doritos), is because comparatively, it is much bigger than the junk food for the same amount of calories.. so it fills you up. Plus, at least some fruit does have some nutrients you need.
I say this as someone who definitely prefers the Doritos, but do know that "filling myself up on fruit" sometimes works.
*Initially* you are accepting "a certain level of belief".
However, if you want/need to, you can figure it out (or have someone else explain/teach it to you). Which *can't* be done for the invisible man in the sky beliefs.
*I* make money through cash back. I have gotten a free PS2, free PS3, a whole bunch of video games, a bunch of $50 checks, all from simply USING my credit cards. I pay NO interest, and each individual purchase is the same amount as if I had paid for it with cash... then I get the cash back.
Allowing retailers the ability to directly deduct money from your checking account is a hackers wet dream.
Yet people use debit cards every single day! (Those "deduct money from your checking account". They also do not have the legal protection that credit cards have.)
There is on such thing as "iOS x". You are referring to an iPad, so you mean iOS.
Hmm, I use VLC on iOS almost daily (to watch some things like documentaries and talk shows faster than realtime), and it works pretty well for me. The few things I have found wrong, I've written bugs about on their site, and I know they're already fixed in the next version.
1) You are wrong. SOME apps do indeed quit (which is what you really mean by "close their applications") when you close the last window, e.g. System Preferences
2) It is true that most apps don't do that.. BECAUSE IT WOULD BE ANNOYING TO THE USER TO DO THAT. I don't want the !@$ app quit, just because I have no windows open. For example, I want to leave Safari running and switch back to it and make a new window, or TextEdit, etc.
(Yes, nowadays there are some things that will kill/freeze apps if they have no windows open, but that's not the same as what you are referring to, a normal app quit.)
I can state, definitively, that if a $30,000 electric car with a 150 mile range on a single charge became a thing I'd have to consider it.
Why do you need THAT much range, daily? The lowest end electric cars already beat your price (by a long shot if you count tax rebates), and are close to 2/3 of your range "requirement".

What's wrong with amortizing cost? It's the logical thing to do.
Some of the low cost airlines save money by having long term fuel purchase agreements.

Because college should be teaching you advanced skills or advanced ways of thinking.
Yes, I think automation will probably automate away many of these minimum wage jobs! Why can't a machine flip burgers?
Plus, you didn't respond to the part about minimum wage jobs not being intended as careers or for older people at all.
Because they're minimum wage jobs. Should someone really expect to be able to buy a house on minimum wage? Again, those jobs weren't meant for people's _careers_. (Why didn't they go to college? Community college even.)
That's ironic, since people totally made fun of how iOS didn't have copy/paste for a while.
You do realize Amazon bought twitch, a video game video site, for $970 million in cash, right?
I'd never heard of it before the news came out.

Which is EXACTLY what others are trying to say, yet you're arguing with them at every turn.
Except for the T-Mobile and Sprint plans that others pointed to that are exactly that....

Except the fact that their views _are_ impacting me & society, by things like teaching creationism in schools.

My smart electric net cost was about exactly $16500, after rebates, including sales tax.
Why do you need THAT much range, daily? The lowest end electric cars already beat your price (by a long shot if you count tax rebates), and are close to 2/3 of your range "requirement".
