Just build a second (relatively small) reservoir at the base of the dam. Then install additional pumps and turbines. The capacity of the main reservoir is adequate for weeks of electricity production - so the bottleneck is in the bottom reservoir and the pump/turbine capacity.
In all fairness though, the renewable plans for transportation do include combustion engines.
The world seems to be aiming at two or three concepts:
1. Biofuels. Same old engine, sustainable fuel. 2. Electric engines. Sustainable electricity, new fuel tank, and (for cars at least) new engine. 3. Fuel cells. New fuel, new tank, and (for cars at least) new engine. Still in research stage it seems.
It seems that option 1 is the easiest to implement, because most of the existing infrastructure will be needed. In the end, it'll be a transition, and it looks like we're developing all 2-3 in parallel.
Luckily it will be very straightforward to protect yourself from hackers: an old fashioned lock will do.
I would never connect my front door or car to anything that is on any network. I am the one with the keys now - that's a very nice feeling.
The motivation for hackers now is to gain control of a computer to make a few euro/dollars. If they can steal a car, or just open a front door and walk in - I dunno - I can just imagine that they are much more motivated to hack even small niche technologies.

how quaint: apparently in Spain, the accused have some right to privacy
That's because in Spain you're not guilty until proven guilty by a court of law. The days of the Spanish inquisition are over.
What country doesn't protect its accused in the 21st century?
Drive by wire means that your average garage cannot repair even simple failures. You have to go to the certified dealers. That's simply extra cash for the car manufacturers.
And that little extra cash is important when you're working with a very small margin.
It doesn't matter who builds the best car. It matters who makes the most money.
The court tests whether the law is applied correctly.
Parliament and ministers and such make laws.
And the police will uphold the law.
That's the trias politica, and if everybody keeps to this law, then we'll all be happy campers. These courts CANNOT change the law. If the law is not clear, (in the original way) the lawMAKERS must improve the law. However, in reality, the world moves faster than lawmakers, and this means that courts have to interpret the law - which means that in fact they became lawmakers, or rather law-adjusters, too.
That is a bad development because it makes it very attractive to ask for an appeal and hope for a new interpretation. We're heading for a situation where everybody will appeal everything. That will ultimately be totally unworkable - a lot more unworkable than a single bad copyright law.
If someone steals something, and then you add a lock so they can't get in, does that "fix the problem"? Should the theft itself be prosecuted and punished?
No, but adding a lock would be a good feature.
Apple (and any other web-cam actually) should have a little lens-cap.
This time, we're dealing with simple spying. Next we'll have a hacker, or a bug. A simple piece of plastic can prevent this.
Adding a lock doesn't mean that theft is legal. Adding a lock is just smart because there will always be thieves.
At the same time, Apple users (and anyone else with a webcam) may want to simply cover the lens of the camera when it's not in use.
It would be a 2 cent "feature" from Apple to provide this... And while it's not there, a simple tape (with a non-sticky part over the lens) will do the job.
You can hack all the software you want, or use existing software features provided, but no hacker can hack through a real world plastic cover.
yes, I am a UAV pilot. No, you're dead wrong. All of you motherfuckers have no clue. Hunting people is not very different at 20 yds then at 2000 miles. And no, I do it because I don't want my two little girls to be property. That is the cost of loosing.
You sound full of hate. You make no sense. And you make spelling mistakes.
If you are really one of those pilots that fly those RC airplanes that can deliver death at the other side of the globe, then I am getting very worried...
The rules of war have changed... the enemy isn't a state, it's a force of people loyal to a cult that believes a corrupted religion.
Are you talking about the Republicans in their Nevada bunkers or about Al-Qaida in their Afghanistan caves?
You're right that the enemy of Afgnans is not all the Americans or all the Western world. It's a bunch of war-mongers who happened to be in the White House for 8 years.
I heard (on TV, so no link) that they weren't allowed to use the old machines because those are not official Olympic partners...
Even the engine (which isn't visible to the audience) had to be made by an Olympic partner.
Anyway, that, plus the fact that the band was only allowed to play 2 songs in the break, showed to me that the Canadians keep to the rules a bit too precise. The organisation seemed so afraid of problems by unexpected events by people that when the machines broke down, all creativity and initiative was smothered under a blanket of Bureaucracy On Ice.
Only if the real programmers out there promise to be nice to us scientists.
Most scientists will know a lot about, well, science... but not much about writing code or optimizing code.
Like my scripts. All correct, all working... lots of formulas... but probably a horribly inefficient way to calculate what I need.:-)
the last thing I need is someone to come to me and tell me that the outcome is correct but that my code sucks. (And no, I am not interested in a course to learn coding - unless it's a 1-week crash course).
So? Some soldiers never return... why so afraid to kill a few astronauts in the name of science?
Keep sending the shuttles up until they don't return. Those rovers on Mars kept running for 6 years rather than 90 days - the remaining shuttles might surprise us.
The car manufacturers checked and checked again. Found nothing. But the Apple dude says there's something wrong!
I think I'll believe the computer guy, not the guys who actually designed, tested, certified and built the car.
If Woz can reproduce the problem, then I'll believe him.
Reproducing the problem is not the same as making the right diagnosis.
I am sure he can reproduce the problem. I am not sure that his diagnosis of a computer system which he has not taken apart, and with which he hasn't tinkered, is right.
However, if he HAS tinkered with the Toyota's computer system - that would be a great diagnosis in itself, and perhaps a reason for the malfunction (apologies to Apple fans for blasphemy) and perhaps Toyota would blame him.
Frankly, it can be Woz, hell, it could be the entire Apple team - I don't see why toyota should treat him as anything but just a normal customer... unless the Prius runs on Apple software and hardware.
Like, you don't agree with the government - but you are not afraid to say so on internet where your boss, your family, your neighbors, and everyone else can read it? Right?
You side with the not-so-common small party. You do so because you can still vote anonymously. But you wouldn't say this to anyone because most people don't like it. But - you don't have anything to hide. So, this is ok.
You had nothing to hide. Privacy didn't affect you. Until some goon started to look at your balls when you board a plane... lol.
Sorry everybody, but I find it more disturbing that my every move is recorded and stored than that some person checks my genitals. The genitals are pretty much the same for everybody - my travels, my bank account, my posts online, my phone conversations - those are things that make me unique. Those matter far more.
Just build a second (relatively small) reservoir at the base of the dam.
Then install additional pumps and turbines. The capacity of the main reservoir is adequate for weeks of electricity production - so the bottleneck is in the bottom reservoir and the pump/turbine capacity.
The real news is that this is not because of lack of exercise, but because of lack of food.
In all fairness though, the renewable plans for transportation do include combustion engines.

Great news from our big neighbors.
If only our mainstream media would pick it up, then someone would actually know about this.
10 seconds is not enough to grab a coffee, but locking my pc for 10 seconds sure motivates me to get one.
Who is going to pay all the lawyers who fight copyright stuff?
The court tests whether the law is applied correctly.
Parliament and ministers and such make laws.

Right. So you visitting a hospital fixes the issue of me stabbing you.
No, but me having medical insurance can save my life if you stab me.

That's a nice one. Blame biofuels, not meat production for deforestation...
Why don't you eat another beef burger while you're at it?
I am not vegetarian - I love meat too much, but we gotta face the facts here.
