Well the laptop that I myself use for desktop replacement is Compaq 1274 (In fact I am posting this message from the laptop now). No, it's not for playing Quake3 (I haven't tried, but I don't suppose its possible), but I could play unreal (in Mikeysoft OS) in a very low resolution, but it worked. It is great for coders, music lovers, just casual desktop users, net junkies but not 3d gamers. Here are the highlights: AMD-k6-2/366/64MBram/4.3GB. For more detailed information, you can check out a how-to that I have written at http://strlen.net/compaq1274. Happy laptoping.
True, you have many good points. But it would have been a better idea to duplicate some clever German designs, rather then the B-29, which would not have the range to go drop a weapon against the United States and return back to a Soviet base (USSR wasn't extremely ensthusatic about komikase either). Soviet Union overran many Junkers and Messerschmitt factories. Also U.S.S.R. did have a formidable bomber force in begining of World War II. In fact, they've bombed Ploeste in Romania at the second day of the war from bases in Ukraine, yet most of it was destroyed on the ground. There was also the Tu-2 bomber, which had only 2-engines, yet had a large range and could ferry a sizeable load of ammunition. Eastern Front also did not need a massive strategic bombardement fleet, U.S. and Britain were in charge of that. Also World War II four engine bombmers in service by USAAF were in no way superrior to other aircraft and suffered heavy losses at the hands of German FLAK guns and piston engine fighters, it was their sheer numbers which did help achieve success. You can say a Tu-4 did kick star the bomber programs in the U.S.S.R., which achieved immense successes with Backfires and BlackJacks. Also Soviet Union manufactured a number of long range experimental cargo, passenger and bomber planes prior to the World War II. In fact they had the first mono-plane heavy bomber, designed by Antonov-burea back in late 20's (please correct me if I am wrong). The sucess of the TU-4 program was that Americans took equally stupid steps to protect themselves against a plane which could easily by intercepted by jet fighter and could not reach the United States, unless on a komikaze mission (there is only one account of a Russian pilot doing that, Yuri Gastelo who piloted his aircraft into a column of German tanks after being shot at and running low on fuel, without any instructions to do that).
Shortly after WWII Stalin got bored and ordered Tuplev to also duplicate Boeing B-29 superfortress, as it was the plane which dropped The Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Several B-29's landed in 1944 on Russian soil, because they couldn't make it back to Guam (Ewojima wasn't taken yet), due to FLAK damage, and as Russia was not in war with Japan yet, they were interned. So Tupolev (who was held in prison at the time), was also forced to duplicate the plane, which was obsolete even in 1945 due to it's piston engines, slow speed, large size and a large crew needed to operate it. So in 1947 they rolled their own B-29's (Tupolev TU-4, NATO codename BULL), onto may day parade, while Americans already had jet bombers such as B-47, and B-46, with mid-air refueling capability and speed to match the "Migs". Yet another example of a large government, spending mine and time on producing objects which only act to increase their egos.
Well, democracy doesn't mean screwing a country over. Look at other East European countries, who had much better comebacks from communism, namely the baltic states, which came out of the grip of USSR. I am not blaming everyone, I am pointing out some facts and some of the opinions.
Please dont love at Jirinovsky. He's nothing to be laughed about. In fact, to some degree he summarizes the key points of what Russians want (I, being from a former U.S.S.R. republic do know what I am talking about).
Their pride restored. During the U.S.S.R. Russia was a powerfull nations, whos armed forces could turn New York into a powerdercake, whos scientists were among the best in the world, where there was no unemployement, there was no crime, there was no AIDS and alcoholism was being fought against (if you were found drunk on the street, be ready to smell boots and loose your liver).
Yankees go home. American cultural has infiltrated Russia much more then it has the rest of Europe. Every Russian girl dreams to be like an American slut. I doubt there is anyone in Russia who likes that.
Order. Crime began to climb rapidly in Russia after the fall of Gorrbachev and the U.S.S.R. Streets are dirty, buttons in elevators are burned out, the whole country looks like a project in NYC.
If he comes to power, which he might, depending on how well Putin does (assuming he does get elected as the president) and how popular the communists become, many of US will know what a T66 is, just like we know what a Panzer is.
Well, lets look at it that way. If life indeed somewhere else, which, it could accorind to theory, we could be reached very soon. Conditions for life to exist have been spotted throughout the evidence recently. Since the time it takes for life to develop is relatively small, in proportion to time the universe has existed and time it takes from the begining of a civilization to the time the civilization is able to reach other planets is relatively small too. Then, if all goes to theory we would be contacted by `aliens` and since no evidence exists that we have been, I think its not all this simple. Here's my $0.02
P.S. - this is borrowed from an intersting article I have found in a Russian scientific journal some time ago. Excuse spelling marks. Oh ya, this is one of the first posts too!
I started becoming a geek in 1995-1996, the end of the B.B.S. era. My first taste of the Internet, was using the Windows 3.1 hyper terminal to dial up a local B.B.S. where I downloaded demo versions of games and read newsgroups. Then I left to Russia, where the telecomunications network is to degraded for B.B.S.'s and Internet alike. When I came back there was no trace of the good old B.B.S. The directories only mentioned porn B.B.S.'s.
I found IRC, to be a reminiscent of B.B.S. community, especially on the Open Projects (LinPeople) network and the Gimp IRC network. I also found a nice B.B.S. you people should check out -- telnet://fix.no. They are Norway based yet all have knowledge of English and have members from Mexico to Japan. They also give access to e-mail, newsgroups, fidonet, their own conferences and a file database. Chat is available for all you IRC junkies;-)
I believe the decline of the B.B.S's is caused by the faster, slicker Internet services, with the respectable looking web pages and "serious context". B.B.S's are being portraied as heavens of skin head activity and warez, unlike the Internet, which is shown to be a commercial and serious network. Sad. But don't dispair B.B.Sers! There's still many B.B.S.-like communities on the Internet.
Well it could be a mistake. Can someone contact Corel for that?
Another possible idea is that Corel wants to avoid script kiddies, many of them are minor age (no offense I'm a minor to) and wants a serious reputation for their OS. Another idea is that they are afraid that kids are irresponsible and will ruin their parents' computer by installing Linux on it and do not want to be liable.
Whatever the reason is, if that is deliberate, it's an outrage and if it's a mistake, it must be corrected. Can someone please contact Corel?
In my honest opinion, Mortal Kombat type games are the worst, for they represent nothing but senseless violence. Some argue they represent a sport, but looking at MK's "Fatality" feature, it certainly doesn't.
On the other hand, Combat sims such as flight sims, tank sims are not that bad in that aspect. I play those types of game, because I like technology not the Combat. This is especially. true of Flight Sims, where all you see is a machine, a miracle of technology, which can fly at speeds faster then sound, and not a person. You don't also see any blood etc... it's purely the technology that fascinates a player and by seeing the might of these machines, you get to appreciate that you are in peace, not at war and avoid the destructive power of those machines. My 1000 Belarussian rubles (about 2 cents). Oh yes, if you're looking for a good open source flight sim, check out sabre at http://sabre.cobite.com (Korean War / Late WWII aircraft).
I hope with new legal battles regarding NSI, NSI will make some changes for the better, especially regarding the way they treat customers. From my experiences, they are not nice to their customers. They have the impression "customers need a domain, we're the only one who give them a domain, hence they have no choice".

Well I agree, not every, but certainly a large percentage including some intelligent girls as well.
