I did have some retired colleagues who were escorts for ladies on board. They were paid similar wages, but enjoyed the hell out of the cruises. Good meals, pleasant company, and it was like Saturday evening out with a date every day of thte week.
So that's legal in international waters?!
Hell, a lot of corporations have escorts on staff. Technically they aren't hookers in either case.
Speaking as someone who knows squat about cruises - why is Carnival an unacceptable option? And if they're a bad choice then what's a good choice?
Carnival's main attraction is it's low price. They also had a lot of problems a few years back - possibly related to that cheapness. There were some ship breakdowns, http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/14/... and the infamous "Poop Cruise" http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/17/...
and morehttp://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/03/15/second-carnival-cruise-in-week-experiences-trouble-at-sea.html.
I think that the situation has improved. But the cheapness being a major attraction tends to attract cheap people.
Because a small government has no power worth corrupting.
And with no government at all, corruption will vanish..... right?
If there are (next to) no rules, then why pay government to go around them?
You simply must give me the examples of the almost no Government success story countries. They have to be fantastically successful, and people will be enthusiastically attempting to emigrate to them.
The absolute tools woh think that the univers rotates around Facebook, and choose it as the guidance center of their lives are learning a little bit. Nah - just kidding,
Side note: After seeing the initial AC posts, I decided to surf at 2 in this subject. All but 2 posts were hidden.
Step up your game cowards! Dumbass "Trump is going to make Mexico pay" posts are old hat now.
Unfortunately, I used to use proprietary software, and my experience during that time was a hideous mess of proprietary and undocumented file formats that couldn't be shared between applications, and caused trouble when an associate switched to a newer version of the software.
Don't forget feature bloat. Office eventually became a bloated pig of a program, with "features" thay 99.99999% of us would never use. But feature bloat was something that made life easier for reviewers, as they could rattle off the awesome new features that only reviewers and fanbois would brandish like a bludgeonn to claim superiority.
So I think it's a very poor suggestion.
Since I switched to Linux I've had very few problems with incompatible file types across different version of the software. This is far more desirable. Your mileage may vary, but please compute it over a period of years, not just at one point in time.
This - so much this. Back to the office comparisons, Microsoft can't even make it's own Office suite comptible with itself between Mac and PC - and with inherent incompatibility, and not even serving the Linux market in any way, it gets an Olsoc rating of 0. Not recommended. Now I take files between all three platforms and it just works. No more of wondering what's going to be screwed up and needs fixed, a tremendous productivity improvement.
I've downloaded and burned Ubuntu cds for two people who don't know how to do that themselves not too long ago, because they for some reason decided to try Linux and asked me how to do it. Both installed Ubuntu without anyone present to hold their hands
How long ago was this? Were the PCs made before the release of Windows 8 in late 2012, when Microsoft started requiring manufacturers of new PCs and desktop PC motherboards to default to Secure Boot with Microsoft's keys?
And aftrwards as well! I've had no problem getting Linux installed and ruuning on recent computers. Just have to enable "legacy boot". Most recent was a Acer Touch screen laptop that had W8.1 on it.
Anyone who would purposefully releases some radioactive gas without approval should be prosecuted accordingly, and evidently it was already investigated, so this isn't even news. However, seeing that radiation risk is so highly mis-understood and inflated by Joe public, this type of headline hype deserves some measured response related to the risks.
Just curious - Is there any radiological incident that you don't approve of?
I'm pro nuc, and even I think you are so far over the top that you might be the reincarnation of Doctor Strangelove.
You make normal people think that pro nuc people are batshit crazy. Assuming you are pro nuc? You are doing more damage than good.
Just sayin'. I'll wait for your insults because they give me teh lulz.
That's not mentioning the fact that the entire staff is likely undocumented/imported, paid low wages (absurdly so), often addicted to drugs etc.
Last cruise we went on, the provided a breakdown of staffing. They knew where everyone on board came from. And at least the ones we met with (my wife enjoys interaction with the staff) a lot of students who wre saving for college. The pay isn't very high, but it is clean, and the expenses are very low. So no complaints there.
There aren't many Americans. I did have some retired colleagues who were escorts for ladies on board. They were paid similar wages, but enjoyed the hell out of the cruises. Good meals, pleasant company, and it was like Saturday evening out with a date every day of thte week.
Your version of Cruise lines is completely bizzare and I haven't seen any of that stuff you say is likely.
Although full disclosure - I haven't - nor will I - be on a Carnival Cruise.
The one country in the world that had experienced nuclear devastation, with one of the most technologically advanced cultures in the world, couldn't get it right. This was not the bureaucratically hide bound Soviet Union, where technical expertise coexisted with a struggling backwards economic system, this was the home of the bullet train that always ran on time and they still couldn't get it right.
It always boils down to people. So much about Fukushima reeks of bad decisions at every level, from siting to accounting to management. And while hindsight is always 20/20, the combination of location, and insufficient seawall height made the accident almost inevitable. The only way it wasn't going to happen was if plate tectonics gave it a lucky break and no Tsunami happened during the reactor lifetime and decommissioning. Simple study shows those seawalls would be breached, and if the historical record isn't enough, the rubble patterns left by previous tsunami surely should. No doubt they saved money on lower seawalls.
A huge amount of energy encased in a small volume, and humanity's inherent corruption and hubris makes for a bad combo.
Just an example of this sort of whackadoodle crap - the US interstate system has rules that a fence be built along the highways to keep deer and other animals off the highways - good idea.
But fencing thousands of miles on both sides is expensive. So they lowered the height of the fences - below the height that a deer can jump. And the highways are such that the fences tend to be near the tops of hills, or partway down. So the deer can jump in, but getting back out is a big problem.
So we're treated to a shitload of carnage as bambi meets bumper.
Coupled with the arrogance of some pro-nuc folks, and you have a difficult job to re-energize the nuc power industry.
As a nuclear physicist: Yes, that's true. But if you reprocessed the fuel rods instead of treating them as waste, they wouldn't be sitting in a pool being radioactive.
As a hoomin bean, then we'd be talking about the safety, security and health risks of reprocessing.
Why no Carly - I see you are still trying to shift shit around though. You do realize that your post is exactly what I posted about.
Because NEITHER of you complained when slashdot posted articles from Daily Kos and just happily lapped it up like the kool-aid drinkers you are.
There's a search button... it works.
Because I have no idea of the specific posts you are referring to. But yeah, you see, you even tried to discount my opinion by accusing me of "lapping it up like the Kool-aid drinker that you ( I ) am".
Perfect Carly Fiorina defense.
Bet you would've said the same if Slashdot had posted a Daily Kos article about a judge slamming Bush' DoJ...
Yes, they would have. The Carly Fiorina defense. When backed into a corner, caught in one of her blatent lies, she'd just accuse the person of working from the Trump or Clinton playbook.
But the same isn't true for women: they routinely badger their husbands into watching and doing things they don't enjoy, like watching Hallmark movies, going to church, etc. Men do it because after too many years of being single and sex-less, they reason that this is what they have to put up with if they don't want to be alone and only have the company of porn videos at night.
This reminds me of a joke. two guys were sitting in a bar, and one buys the other a drink, saying "I'm celebrating! I'm getting married next week. Now I can have sex any time I want!"
The other says "That's odd - that's the exact reason I got divorced."
I guess you have never used a sticky rat trap. That stuff does not run and will stick to you as soon as you touch it. Just cover the car with that glue and people will stick to it permanently.
Looking outside at the oak pollen and catkins, and the huge amount that falls right now - in our township they have to continually dispatch trucks that unblock teh storm sewers this time of year, those rat Trap or flypapber solutions will las about 5 hours before being covered.
This is a flying car solution. In truth, I suspect there was a degree of ganja involved in whoever came up with the idea, and now we are trying to re-arrange the world to fit it.
hell I've even seen video of a future Darwin award winner that has a fucking 110v POWER STRIP floating on a donut in a pool
Interestingly enough this is the one thing on your list that would be very unlikely to kill you. If it's attached to a ground fault interrupter it would almost be outright impossible to kill.
As well, the volume of water will make it very unlikely that anyone could get a fatal shock. Still a stupid trick.
Maybe that's part of it. For some I could see it. But in my opinion it is because you asshats won't stop trying to ban nicotine. You've been downright bastards against smokers since I was about 18.
I'm seeing calls for a war on vaping, complete with confications and criminalization, horror storuies about vapers gone mad, and attacking teh childrenz, and how vaping is a gateway drug to crack cocaine and watching The Young Turks on Youtube.
All sarcasm aside, the issue of vaping is a big problem for the puritans, because without the carcinogenics, they don't have much to rail against. And the properties of small amounts of nicotine make for a pretty innocuous but often useful effect on people.
You're an idiot. I use my vape because it's what got me to quit smoking. I've been cigarette free for two years now thanks to it.
The puritans that have given rise to the idiocies like Prohibition and the war on drugs are having nightmares about vaping. Without the cancer causing agents, they have lost their second and third and so on arguments that have allowed them to demonize smokers.
Don't worry though, that won't stop them from making shit up.
As much as people like to point out that this woman was form Wales, was she in Wales at the time she accused the Mathematician of being a terrorist?
We are so fearful in America, ready to panic over stupid shit like alarm clock innards and math symbols, and it is engouraged to be in that state of fear, as witnessed by commercials I here very day commanding that citizens call authorities if they see or hear anything (their emphasis, not mine) out of place.
They were in America, in Philadelphia - and she decided that he was a terrorist. He was not interrogated because she was from Wales, he was interrogated because someone thought that he was a terrorist and math sysmbols are suspect in America today.
If the airplane was in some other country when that happened, I might have made a reference to that country. I kinda hope we're clear on this.
That isn't true. Men force women to watch their shows all the time. Most women don't actually watch sports on their own yet not only are forced to watch games but also cook dinner for the guy and their friends so they have food during the game.
Look at a group of friends make and female "watching a game". Most women are chatting or doing other thing during the actual game itself.
Not all but it holds true more often than not.
Fortunately in our house, we have multiple televisions no one watches anything they don't want to. Now most of the shows I watch - and there aren't a lot, my wife has no problem with. She does watch more Hallmark channel movies, which are watchable, but obviously oriented toward women, and I watch more science stuff. But we'll watch both together. She watches hockey along with me as well - a surprising number of women enjoy Ice Hockey.
And if a woman is "forced" to watch anything or forced to prepare food for the husband and friends, perhaps she needs to be in a different relationship with a different kind of guy. I've been married 39 years now, and never forced my better half into anything.
She has however cooked many meals voluntarily, and without me asking. I've done stuff for her and her lady friends as well.
Why? Becuse our relationship isn't some sort of sadistic masochistic war between the sexes. I fear altogether too many seem to that a generalized hatred of their spouses is somehow normal.
I did have some retired colleagues who were escorts for ladies on board. They were paid similar wages, but enjoyed the hell out of the cruises. Good meals, pleasant company, and it was like Saturday evening out with a date every day of thte week.

GO GRANDPA, GO GRANDPA
When I asked one of them what their onboard duties were, he said, "Oh we eat meals, go dancing, you know - stuff."
Yup, go grandpa FTW!

It's actually considered the 8th least corrupt country in the world, between Switzerland and Canada. Source.
Yay! Wer'e number 8, We're number 8!
Smartassness aside, yes, that is pretty good. But it is a country ripe for abuse. It isn't always about the "right now" - it's about what can happen.

Reading the story, the Pope was being kind. That whole thing reads like an adult version of 13 year old drama llamas.
People who write like that need a lot of work just to get minimum veracity.
The prosecution rests.
