Thanks. I just found out about this last week, and have been working with both schools to fix it. I was requested by Regis to get a signed letter from Phoenix saying they cancelled the funds. After a couple hours and back and forth phone calls between the different departments (that kept pushing the onus onto other depts) they said I would have my letter in 24-48 hours. A week went by and still no letter, so I called them again and had it by the end of the day.

The funniest part, is that I keep getting spam from Phoenix asking me to sign a petition. Here's some text:

Today I'm writing to ask you to take a simple but important step in making sure the voices of our university community are heard.

Please sign this petition asking President Obama to protect access to higher education for all students in the nation.

As you may know, some leaders in Washington are proposing regulations that could affect our university and restrict students' options within higher education. I want to make sure that the national conversation about University of Phoenix includes the voices of the people who know it best -- hardworking students like you.

Regulations could prevent students at for-profit schools like University of Phoenix -- and only schools like ours -- from having the same access to grants and student loans as traditional universities. Under these new rules, students could still get aid for community colleges, state schools, and private universities -- schools that don't all share our philosophy that everyone deserves the opportunity to go to college.

As you know better than anyone, if our students can't have equal access to student loans, that's going to block hundreds of thousands of Americans from getting the college education they need and deserve to get ahead in their jobs or find even better jobs.

Please sign this petition to President Obama, asking him to protect access to higher education for all students, especially working adults from diverse backgrounds like so many of our students. Join thousands of students, alumni, staff, and faculty who are speaking out about the value of their education at University of Phoenix and the critical role that it is playing in your current career or in the career you intend to pursue.

I am considering starting an active petition to oppose this one. It's such utter bullshit and this proposed legislation is actually giving me a reason to support Obama, who I'm not a big fan of otherwise. I will also hand $10 to anyone I meet that is considering going to UoPx if they agree to not attend and choose something else.

Well, thanks to University of Phoenix, I might not have access to my loan until Spring. I withdrew from there to enroll at a good school, and was informed that there was a conflict with the dates and moving my aid from one school to another.

Phoenix told me when I withdrew that I would have to pay for those classes out of pocket, which I decided to just bite the bullet on since I wanted out ASAP. However, they subsequently proceeded to use my aid money to pay for them anyway.

I'm working on fixing the situation, but am planning on having a bake sale to raise funds for the 2010 Fall semester.

I watch me some YouTube, but I was very unaware of this feature until recently.

I was drinking with some friends one night while my girlfriend was traveling in Norway. I happened to be karaoke night and her birthday was in a couple of days. Since I couldn't give her anything in person, I had the idea that I would sing one of her favorite songs (Talking Heads, This Must Be the Place) and YouTube it to her on her birthday.

I was astonished after uploading it that it told me I had uploaded content that contained copyrighted material. What fascinated me was that my singing was horrendous, I completely screwed up the second verse's timing, and there was a bunch of background noise, and yet it still knew that the song was copyrighted.

At first I thought it would get removed or something, but it's still there in all of its 2 view glory. She loved it. I enjoyed making it.

Hell, maybe they were simply conducting an experiment to show how torrents will affect the bottom line. Or maybe this reflects the overall state of the economy. Or maybe this reflects how poor of a job the have done with promotion. And on... and on...

That patent number, while now obsolete, still stands and should be seen as a marketing promotion. When Gore-Tex lost its patent, they still promoted the Gore-Tex name, because hey, while others can now produce goods based on that patent, the Gore-Tex patent says, "hey, we did it first, we sell a product we're more experienced with."

This is absurdity. If you invent (or sometimes patent) something first, you should be allowed to claim so. Who cares if the patent still applies. If a company is interested in producing a previously patented good, you'd think they would have the sense to investigate whether or not that patent number is still valid.

It's not that it's a terrible assumption, just that it isn't necessarily your place to do so. The people who hire those operators are likely going to put new hires through a battery of tests so as to weed out the people you are inherently afraid of. There would also be technological controls to discourage such acts as well. Like the GP said, there are so many facets of life that offer an opportunity for abuse. Somehow, society has managed to survive up until this point.

Listen, every single person out there gets a tight puckered anus when they get pulled over by the cops; it's natural, even if you've done nothing wrong. SUVs are a great example, as people certainly don't generally use them as "Sport Utility Vehicles", they use them for commuting. If I want something bigger, it's because it's practical. I bought a 23" monitor because they got less expensive and it's much easier for me to work with. My dad, OTOH, he likes to go bigger simply because it must be better, hence his infatuation with always buying the top-of-the-line tools/tractors/etc, even if it only gets used once a year.

One of the reasons I like the whole "green" movement isn't necessarily because of environmental concerns, but simply because it makes more sense. If that means Toyota might reintroduce a standard pickup, then I'm happy.

All those older 80's model imports were sporting numbers that, compared to today, are pretty horrendous. Granted, the testing doesn't use the same methods as previously used, but people don't care about that.

When they see some 1983 Honda Civic sporting MPG of 50 (or whatever it was, certainly higher than today) they compare that to today's Civic and wonder, WTF happened?

It's purely related to image. When current hybrids are stating MPG lower than what they used to be, there is an image problem.

And your point about light trucks? There aren't even any light trucks available any more. The best you can do is a Ford Ranger. There are no more Toyota Pickups. All we have now are the beasts. If I could choose one vehicle to purchase now, I would like to buy a 2010 Toyota Pickup, not one of those Tacomas or Tundras, those are not light pickups.
