    In this case, the /. post even makes sense and provides evidence, unlike the "article" we're discussing.

    Apple charges what they do because people pay. There is absolutely no accounting or SARBOX voodoo involved.

    HTTPS doesn't hide the fact that you're making a connection from host A to host B.
    People think tor does that, but it doesn't (and it can't).

    That's what anonymity is about. Encryption of the actual traffic is a separate issue (and cert based encryption is absolutely not secure, even with PFS - the governments of the world and the "trusted" root authorities are absolutely untrustworthy).

    If your traffic gets to its intended destination and back to you over public links then there's no fucking anonymity, just obscurity.

    Enders game wasdnt rushed. It was shallow and empty. AMD it had little depth to begin with, compared to Speaker or Alvin Maker.

    Yeah, Ender's game was a turd of a movie because it was a turd of a story. It's a high school level short story at best, with an entirely predictable and cliched plot.

    Sandy was a much bigger storm when it was hitting Cuba and fucking up the southern end of the Atlantic coast. It was an actual hurricane then, in fact.

    But allllllllllll we fucking hear about is how New York was unprepared. New York isn't special and doesn't deserve special attention for being unprepared, but it sure turned into a fucking media event that's still going strong today.
    I don't know if the media wanted another Katrina or simply wanted to pander to their favorite place in the world (NYC), but it got old real fucking fast.

    And what the fuck is up with "The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Climate Prediction Center is calling for calmer than normal storm activity this hurricane season"? You don't call for that, you predict it. Calls are to be answered (or not). Predictions are to be met (or not).

  19. Because the west isn't concerned about whatever the business does, the west is concerned about the business of being a business.

    Everything from politics to marketing to "corporate culture" are all ancillary bullshit that has nothing to do with getting anything done, yet this bullshit mires every single western business. If you want to make and sell Product Z, but marketing is saying you can't do that because it will cannibalize Product Y or doesn't mesh with the new branding, or HR says you need to wait to get a more "diverse" pool of people working on it, or the PHBs are stifling it because they want the middle manager involved to fail so they can kick their ass out on the curb you're not going to get shit done.

    Yup. I remember when everyone global warming dipshit was screaming "LOOK AT THE DATA!!!111" when Berkley threw up a big dump for public consensus.
    The majority of the data is fake, and the data sheets themselves state this. A whole fucking catalog of asterisks and their meaning, from adjusted data, estimated (guessed) data, thrown out data (because they didn't like it), etc.

    It's a fucking farce and if anyone with half a brain would LOOK AT THE NUMBERS they'd realize it.

    We simply do NOT have accurate, widespread, or normalized temperature measurements for any decent amount of time to be making ANY conclusions about climate.

    In the US, carriers are now required by the FCC to unlock a phone on request, if the phone is not still on a subsidy contract.
    It's been like this for about 2 years now.
