Great. Let me know when you have convinced the insurance companies to not massively overcharge males for auto insurance despite the fact that females are statistically worse drivers.

(Female drivers are more likely than men to cause, be involved with, etc. collisions and what not, mile-for-mile. The reason insurance companies charge men more is because, on average, they drive much more than women. They play to the stereotype of "mature" adolescent girls and "irresponsible" adolescent boys to justify it, and they don't let me tell them that I drive very few miles. Oh well.)

Until then, I'm just being realistic and you're just being a whiny bitch. Go to a doctor, get a physical and a certificate of health, and tell your insurance company to STFU. If they don't listen, get a new insurance company.

For a phone, I do not want something trying to measure my eye movements, my skin, etc.

I want the shit to be as fast as possible so i can be done as soon as possible and the thing can be back in my pocket with the screen off, the speaker off, the bluetooth off, and the radio in it's lowest-power mode.

Throttling back speed means you have to run for longer to get anything done.
You can't throttle back power hogs like the screen or the radio, either.

This is a lot of noise about what will amount to something less effective than what we already have - throttling back when idle/near idle.

  16. Waste of Time on Measuring the User For CPU Frequency Scaling · · Score: 2, Insightful

So if I walk away from my machine to let it process a job, it'll go slower?

If this is to save power, then reducing speed when an intensive task is performed is retarded, since you'll waste energy (having to run the task proportionately longer).

If we're only taking into account saving power when idle/mostly idle, then basing this off of metrics from the user is a waste of effort. Just test your apps and see what a user feels is "fast" for certain tasks, then attach those target times to those tasks, and let the CPU try to hit that target.

You'll waste less energy monitoring a user's behavior and galvanic boner response, and you won't annoy the user when your system behaves inconsistently.

If you want, you can let users specify whether or not they want to emphasize battery life or performance, or turn the feature off entirely and let shit work as it should.

The trick would be getting this shit implemented at level low enough that each app would be able to specify target times and specific tasks. Of course, if you're the fuckers worried about battery life, you're the one designing the hardware/platform, so you've got control.

You sure do (or are supposed to).

Free speech means being able to stand on the White House lawn and announce that you're about to rape the president with a C4 dildo.

Free speech stops anyone from forcing you to stop your announcements, and prevents them from arresting/convicting you based on what you said (with a lack of you actually having DONE anything).

Free speech doesn't prevent you from being stopped and checked for weapons.

If your speech itself causes demonstrable harm (libel, slander), then you can be forced to cough up for the damages. Free speech means you can walk out of the court house spewing the same libel and slander that you just got sued over.

As you can see - we do NOT have free speech in this country, despite the fact that we are supposed to.

    They'd make less, I'd guess.

PC gamers (and console gamers to a lesser extent) will still get the infinite 100% discount by stealing.

Most people who are okay with buying used (I avoid buying used since you often don't get the original case, the instruction manual, a disc without gashes/semen on it, etc.) will still buy used and get a discount.
If the primary point of contention for deciding whether or not to buy something is price, then the bulk of sales will be done at the lowest price available (the used market) as long as the savings (a few bucks) outweighs the issues of buying used (most people don't give a shit about manuals/cases/etc.).

What publishers do now is fucking disgusting.
We've got the "next gen tax" where games now cost $60 instead of $50. (Rising development costs? If that were true we should be seeing better games.) Then, they slap on the significant "extras" (that were already done and would have been included on the fucking disc if they were honest, or were made later and should be free) for $10, and on top of that try to sell you costumes for your sack boy or Chun Li at $3 a pop.

To get the full game that would have cost $50 a few years ago, you'll end up paying $80. Over $100 if you want the collector's edition that comes in a metal case and has a sticker.
