Hpw many times does a story need to be recycled? What a waste of space. We have heard it all before and unfortunately will hear it all over agin in the near future.
So can anyone come up with an actual use for this? I am no expert on brewing or space travel and was wondering if there could be a practical use for this. Anyone?
Read on an australian news site http://www.news.com.au that the Empire state has been cleared due to a bomb threat. Have not found any info anywhere else. Anyone know anything?
I hate to point this out but it means nothing until standards are in place. I have been working in this industry a while and carriers do not like putting in non-stanardised equipment. The only time you will see it is with dominant carriers ie NTT with imode. On top of that you have to convince the carriers, developers and content providers to fork out more money, maybe this is the ploy. Not going to happen in the current industry climate though.
If you work for Lucent you couldn't help but know that Bell Labs still exist. It is part of the company logo after all "Lucent Technologie - Bell Labs Innovations". Of course it still exists and is bigger than ever. It is more product focused these days but still does a lot of pure research. Check out http://www.lucent.com and follow the Bell Labs link.
I don't think the Government were actually serious about this one. I think they were just trying to pander to the regular broadcasters. They were also trying to scare the hopeful data casters in to being grateful for what they will be able to data cast. Which by the way isn't much. I have been following this one a little and the Governent are very scared of the comercial networks thus trying to pander to their every need and scare the upstart datacasters at every opportunity. Nothing changes. X years down the track another medium will be predominate and our goverments will pander to the owners of those media.
I just don't get it. You can say the truth needs to be told all you like. However, that can not justify endangering peoples lives. It is not up to the people who have released this information to decide that it should be published. So what if a few people had seen it. That does not mean everyone needs to see it. This is irresponcible journalism on the part of those that published it. Someone made a mistake, you don't risk others lives to prove it.
I agree that protecting privacy is very important, particularly for children and others that don't know better. Children should also be protected from inapropriate content. However, I don't believe it is your gouvernments or mines job to do that.
Adults should not be denied access to legal content to protect children. The children should be supervised by their parent/guardian/teacher. These carers need to take responcibility and make decisions about what is or is not appropriate for the minors in their care.
Well this looks like a great decision to me and another step in the right direction. You guys in the U.S.A. seem to keep having wins against your authorities over these issues. I don't think you realise how good you have it some times.
Where I am from (*.au*) we have no right to freedom of speech in our constitution. This is in a country most people would have called free until recently. I am sure you have heard what our gouvernment has done. Our politicians try and tell us that freedom of speech is implied in our constitution. This only seems to apply when it suits them and fundamentalist pressure groups.
Although the censorship laws introduced here have been largely ineffective so far they are still there and may be enforced with greater effort in the future. A scary situation for sure.
Recently at the AFI (Australian Film Industry) awards a highly acclaimed movie was ruled ineligible because it as shot on video. The movie was a highly acclaimed indepedant Australian movie called "Dust off the wings". It was shot on video as the producers could not afford to shoot on film. The movie received great critical acclaim and very good box office taking for an independant film. Yet the Australian Film Industry ruled it inelligible as it was shot on video. Sounds like you have a similar situation. It smack of elitism if you ask me.
I am in Australia so not seeing as much press about this issue. This Valenti guy surely can't be this stupid. Maybe I am just seeing a biased view from the media i do see ie slashdot. If this guy is really this stupid and incompetent shouldn't he be the head legal council for MS or at least in charge of the windows ME code.
This just proves these things are going too far. This type of rubbish censorware must be stopped. If parents are worried about their children they should be parents and supervise them. Same with schools if they want to prevent their students looking at pornography then they should take some responcibility. If people are going to have children or become a professional who looks after them then they have to take the required responsibility. Be a good parent / carer and protect the children you are responsible for from thing you deem inappropriate. I am not even going to suggest what is an is not appropriate because I am sure nobody can agree.
Quick disclaimer to start with. I am from Australia thus don't know US justice system particularly well so please forgive me some errors. I think that this is a case that the Supreme court would have to take. Surely the importance and magnitude of this decision is to high to leave to a lower court. I do realise that the lower courts would normally do work that the supreme court rely on. However, they must see the importance of this decision. Once they see the importance (from a legal standing) and realise that it will end there anyway surely they will compelled to take it. If they know the situation, the importance and possible costs I don't think they can justify not taking it.
Fair call. However, they still don't have many developers and who is going to buy a console that no one is developing for? Although my assumptions may have been incorrect the point still stands. There is no team of developers already working for the platform. Nor is the machine designed from the ground up for games. It may work out better but I can't see it out performing the established consoles without the backing of a heap of developers it doesn't have.
Most consoles are designed for the sole purpose or at least the major purpose of playing games. Linux can be a good platform for playing games. However, that is not what it has been expressly designed for like most of these consoles. Linux is a great OS but that doesn't mean we should use it for everything. I really can't see these guys competing on the performance or marketing stakes with the big console companies. MS will be able to do it with X-Box as they already have an army of developers. Linux game titles are increasing but it's nothing compared to the number of MS titles. So Linux isn't a specifically designed gamne platform and it doesn't have an army of developers already behind it. As much as I would love to see this product I just don't think it will work.
Although I think things like flash have their place, I think the biggest problem is lazy or unskilled designers. These deigners have been brought up in the FrontPage / DreamWeaver generation and know no better or they have gotten lazy and jump for the easy gui tool at any opportunity.
The point of my post was to point out that there is some encryption that is uncrackable. I realise it is completelt impractical for his purpose but it does exist.
It doesn't matter even if you do have a quantum computer. If a random key single pat procedure is used. The reason: I encrypt the message "bob" you try to decrypt the message you get the following results "yes" "too" "the" and any other possible combination of three letters and perhaps more or less depending on the algorithm you use. This method has been proven. If you would like a good description get your hands on "The Code Book" by Simon Singh. He also wrote "Fermats Last Thereom" which is good too but has nothing to do with this.
Think about this. If a message is encrypted in the way I mention then using brute force will decrypt it to every possibility. For example you encrypt the message "yes". Using brute force on random key single pat will produce the reults "non" "bob" "ago" and every other combination of three letters possible or perhaps combinations of more or less letters. You can not break this code.
I have to tell you that not everything can be cracked. There is a little thing one can use called single pat random key. Look it up. It has been proven that it is impossible to break this type of encryption. It may not be practical for this application but saying that nothing is secure is wrong.
