I think a game party is a great idea! In fact why don't you combine it with a costume party and teach everyone how to play D&D! Seriously did you miss the part where a girl was involved? I know that some girls would excuse their men to fight Goro or The Flood, but those days usually end up with all of the women in one corner talking about this and that while opportunity slips away. The board games are a valid idea but if you want to "get to know her" then what you need is a social situation where everyone is having a good time and she can open up while not feeling isolated from the herd which ironically is what you want to do. Alcohol is a good social lubricant for this but is not NEEDED. I suggest bringing in A LOT of nerds from other departments, the bigger the crowd the more she will tend toward people she knows. If this turns out not to be you then I'm sure you can find another one.
No it isn't. You're blaming the employers but in reality it's these Marxist televangelists spitting about racial inequality and conspiracies. The effect is a depressed population who think that even if they had a degree the 'rich white man' will keep them down. Now even if that were the case, it wouldn't stop them from a start-up company but the constant negative reinforcement does. The government AND private groups will both pay for their entire education and despite popular belief A LOT of black people DO in fact have a college degree. The problem isn't social-economic it's social-expectation, they need to put away the leather coats and barrettes and just go for it.
Don't get me wrong I think this is interesting, but I just don't see it. I live in an area where if I'm not a white minority then we are at a 50/50 split. But when I talk to A. American's I never hear them mention BioShock, Battlefield, Oblivion, C&C, WOW or Rock Band. I find it especially interesting that games like Saints Row which seem to almost be targeted at "their culture" are never brought up. If anything I hear some mention of Madden, but my own observations fall drastically short of the ratio that this article describes. I would love to see where these statistics come from.
Now the point of this article is still lost on me. Are we saying that even though this demographic is hooked we still have untapped market potential? Or are we saying that the stigma of being a computer programmer hasn't really crossed that racial divide? Even further are they hinting at some unforeseen racism in the industry? I know people get uncomfortable talking about race and the only thing more certain to get you punched today is talking about religion but I don't care about that these statements have drawn my interest. I wonder would they have posted this if the US didn't have a black candidate for office?
Very well put! This is nothing but modern day soothsaying I half expect the end of his "paper" to say "...give me your credit card and God will come down and save you!". Although the theory is interesting I believe I used to play a LARP game that involved the exact scenario describes. Either way I think a nuclear bomb would be to expensive for terrorist activity especially since you could send someone baking soda and they would die from a heart-attack (Anthrax scare if you can't put it together)
I would have to agree. How many of us grew up with that one kid who was in love with the Anarchist Cookbook? Don't you think he is bored with emptying shotgun shells by now? Oh, don't get me wrong, I was that guy, and I have every intension of reading this article and although Nuclear Physics I suspect is way over my head I am still interested. Now I don't have anything like the motivation or attension span that it would require to build something like this, but still, it would be cool to glace at the power of God.
Fusion/Nuclear Reaction is the break down of matter into energy. Albeit a unique process in it's own right it still yeilds a by-product. Also there is no universal theory of gravity both Newton and Einstien struggled with it for years but have never said they understood it, so your implication that laws of conservation were made to explain gravity is a low blow to get your point across. But kudos on the dirty politics! On a helpful note if you want some of your questions on gravity and black holes answered check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_theory
This is not perpetual motion nor does it break any laws of physics. He has cleverly found/stumbled on a way to gather energy from a second set of magnets setup around the steal drive shaft. Where previously we have found only a net loss of energy he has gathered to impeding factors and redirected them.
This talk about perpetual voodoo is just for publicity, I'll grant the man deserves a huge amount of credit for his discovery but the implications being made are intimidating those that would give it to him. Remember ALL of us nerds have one thing in common, when on the web or at work/school we talk a big game because we know what we know but, put a nerd in front of a spot light with a million ignorant and skeptic people and we shrink; we over analyze until we don't know what we are looking at. This is why we don't know what our most brilliant minds today look like outside the jacket to their latest book. Cleaver but not earth shattering
IDK how well known this is but encryption codes and algorithms to break them are treated the same as ballistic missiles in the USA. You can't buy or sell them in any effective form without a whole lot of paperwork outside the country. The other two are covered by that funny little document we call our bill of rights. And Thank You the day I start thinking like a politician find out who did the lobotomy.
Your being festicious, the article was poorley worded and should have said malware instead of spyware. Malware is anything that causes an undesirable effect on your computer system.
We're already headed in that direction. The average American uses their computer to satisfy a specific role in their life, we are dedicated to our jobs and families (hence all the medication) and don't want to concern our selves with technical issues such as computer maintenance. I can't count how many times I've been told by a customer "I don't care what you have to do I just want to be able to check my email!". This says it all the CITIZEN in America wants freedom, justice and the American way but the CONSUMER in America wants shiny bells and whistles that work when they go to use them and for that we are willing to turn a blind eye to restrictive legislation. We want what we want and if anyone says no then we turn into our irrational and belligerent selves. You may think I'm insulting our people but in fact I'm proud to say we can afford to spoil our selves.
Does this seem a little Backassward to anyone else? In order to effectively monitor the computer content the government would have to count on third party companies not removing their spy ware, I understand Germany's reputation for quality and efficiency but it would still be a government agency and in ANY situation with a free market economy government development can't touch private sector talent. In disclosing the name/location/any identifiable data about the program they are leaving vulnerable to both the people who would remove it and the people who would exploit it. This seems like one of those black hole projects that bankrupt government projects. You could make the removal of this software illegal but the penalty would have to be something on par with the crimes they are trying to fight.
This is the fist Score:5 Insightful that I agree with and it is a shame that an AC posted it. Sign in Damn you!

Those who can't do teach. This is why I challenge my teachers until the day I pass.
