  4. The old administration is old news. The bad shit they did is done. Worry about the present.

    There are all kinds of swamp alligators and players from the old administration still embedded in place in the new administration. It behooves President Trump, who actively campaigned about 'draining the swamp' to identify those critters and punt their asses out of his administration.

    I agree that it's not a matter for us. It's something Trump should continue to pursue though.

    In his campaign he promised he would be doing that. Is it any surprise that weasels like Comey are erupting and needing to be purged?

    So does that mean there will be a flood of iOS devices with support only for less than iOS 11 on the used market from people who can no longer install apps on them because their Apple Account update lockes them out? Might be a good opportunity for 'the rest of us' to get a mid-year iPad for a low low price.

    When I tried to use my cellphone number with Blizzard to 'secure' my extremely valuable World of Warcraft account, they refused to accept my number. Because, I guess, I use a Virgin Mobile phone* so my balls aren't cinched into enough of a vice (a cellphone contract) for them to consider it a 'valid' number.

    (*it's $35 a month for an Android smartphone with lots of data)

    If we could pump enough Reality Distortion Field gas into the Apple boardroom to convince them to switch the Mac to ARM we could cause them to scuttle the whole Mac line.

    Oh, there would be true believers who would stick with Apple through it all. There are almost certainly people still running OS/2 if you look hard enough.

    So if x86-64 Core 2 Duo MacBooks came out in 2007 (I think?), I didn't buy one until around 2009-ish.

    A MacBook of that vintage would probably run Windows 10 fairly acceptably.

    It's probably not true anymore, but there was a period in time when the 'Engine computer' on certain models of car was embedded in the Radio. Swap out the radio?

    And the 'California Gold Rush' wasn't even very much about gold. They had just bought/stolen the West Coast from Mexico and needed to rapidly shift a bunch of US Citizens there. Convincing a lot of rubes to rush across the continent was easy. "Gold! Gold!"

    Until it stabilizes to the dollar and other regular currencies, nobody will use it as a currency. That's how currencies work. People need to trust when they sell you something for X amount that that X amount will be the same next week and next month.

    People who carry on about how much the value has increased since they 'bought in' are arguing against mainstream adoption.

    So is that documented in the 'third-party repair' support documents that Apple publishes? Do they even publish any guidance to third-party repair operations? Or do they stonewall about everything and refuse to acknowledge that any third-party repair should be allowed?

    It simply isn't enough to force third-party repair technicians to rely on YouTube videos about repair issues.

    Slashdot is a nerd site, where we're the people who the first thing we do with new tech is take it apart to figure it out. You're not going to get away with expecting us to pray at the altar of the Company Store.

    If the queue is long, the solution is for Apple to scale up the repair operation. Hire more technicians, have more repair functions going on concurrently.

    That costs money, but they're charging money for services, so they should be spending it to deliver services.
