So, there's this Slashdot user... DNS-and-BIND, who may or may not be a paedophile. Really. None of us have done the research necessary to determine whether DNS-and-BIND is or is not a paedophile. So, until the Slashdot community can crawl out of their collective basements and get the job done, it is best to remain wary and alert while dealing with this most serious of matters.
But seriously. We're asking to see the disputed edits. The complainant hasn't even replied with "The Admins Deleted Them, So I Have Nothing To Show!". Until he presents some sort of evidence, we've got to assume that he's blowing smoke.
Did you ever want to connect to all of the WAPs you can reach at once, and be two or three different WAPs for others at the same time, all without carrying extra hardware? Sam's code can do that.
This is something that I never knew was possible. Thanks for spreading this knowledge!
Those of us who type and are slowly destroying their wrists and arms welcome the opportunity to stop typing while still getting the job done.
To the commenter above me: it's been shown that the fastest way to get pure text into a computer is to speak it. The fastest way to get text out is to read it. TTS tech has its place, but the internet isn't going to start being exclusively narrated by our robot overlord any time soon.
How is "pressing the buttons on a skinner box" different from... say, "flipping the skinner cards" [1] or "filling in the skinner puzzle" [2] or "adjusting the skinner carburettor"[3]? These are all socially acceptable activities that we have been engaging in for *ages*.
[1] Solitaire or other single-player card game [2] Crossword puzzle [3] Um... yeah. I suck at mocking you.:/
Meh. Your generalization about males may be useful but -like all generalizations [1]- it's a lie. The classic counterexample to the "visual male" notion is the world of fashionable clothes. Many, many men don't care about how what they or their SOs wear looks. Comfort and functionality are most often higher priorities than looks. Are men "wired" differently than women? Probably. Does this matter? Probably not. IMO, most of the evolutionarily motivated explanations of each sex's behaviour are axe-grindy pseudo-science with little to no basis in reality. [2]
Getting back to the topic at hand... Did you also discuss the possibility that he's just not that interested in her? Some guys (and gals) are "in a relationship" just to keep the bed warm, as it were.
[1] Even this one! [2] Just like most of what I have to say!
I assume that the unspecified citicards.com rendering issue is "The drop-down menus at the top of the screen aren't appearing on Linux."?
If so, I think that that's not FF's fault, it's an issue with the Flash plugin. If you look really closely (and use your second mouse button) you'll see that -when JavaScript is enabled- the entire top half of the page is a Flash widget.
To fix this, disable JavaScript globally, or for that particular page. I recommend NoScript for the task. Navigation seems to work just fine with JS is disabled.
I ripped all my CDs to mp3 this year, tossed the CDs in a dumpster...
You poor bastard. You should have used something lossless like FLAC. Disk space is cheap, and a compressed size of 70->80% of WAV is nothing to sneeze at. Plus, you can reencode to *ANY* future format w/out worrying about a horrific loss in quality. (OGG <-> MP3, anyone?:( )
One of the things that has destroyed the lattice work of market forces in software is Microsoft itself. They bundled so much software for free with their OS that nobody else could afford to compete. Those that could had to give away their product... and the non-monetary reward system was born. People started doing it for the luls or reputation of doing better than MS, or simply from the need to have better than MS. Some people are like that, and are happy to give it away if you have to see their name every time the app starts. The more that MS bundled, the more others did. They squeezed out the small players. Now we are racing towards equilibrium again. se la vie
Your claim is that MSFT's bundling is the genesis of Share/Freeware and OSS?
That depends on your definition of "acceptable". WinXP doesn't *need* 1GB. The email machine in my office at work runs WinXP Pro and has 0.25GB installed. It's slow to boot, and initially slow to load Outlook (2003?) and Firefox 3. However, once they've been loaded once, you're good to go.
There's this notion that floats around the tubes that says "Browser-based applications are becoming more and more important as time goes by.". I'm not sure that I believe it, but let's assume that it's true. If most of the folks who write browser-based applications don't spend their time making them function in "other browsers", then MSFT has control of yet another "market segment". You'll be "forced" to run Windows to make those apps work correctly.
I don't know if it would harm MSFT to "lose" the "browser wars". I don't pay that much attention to what they're doing. I do know that use and proliferation of free and open standards are what has made the Internet what it is today. Silverlight really squicks me out. I'm kinda ambivalent about Flash. Adobe has released a free and open spec. The gnash folks mention that -aside from knowing that their work is now totally legal- the spec is useless to them.
This tl;dr, rambling, completely uninformed comment brought to you by me!

WAT. I'll gross ~$12,000 in income this year. I have my own apartment in a safe part of town, internet access, and my own car. I have money for a college class or two each semester. I can buy video games, movies, and food. I get to eat out several times a week. I have a skrillion computers and my own laptop. What are those fat cats spending *their* money on?
So, you're playing with a GeForce 9600 GSO? That might explain your lack of smooth running. ;)

or we'll run into some physical barrier (like Planck).
And if you read that as "PLONK!" it becomes even more amusing! Kudos!

*nods*
When I can get 1TB/month from BlueHost for something around $30, you know that something's up. ;)
Disk space is cheap, but backup space isn't.
For me, they're one and the same. ;)
Sure, theoretically the need for transcoding in the future might be a problem. But realistically, why would I want to do that?
Re-mixing? Mashups? Really, anything other than just listening to the audio.
A glass of water might know. You should go ask it.
Mmm.

Wait... if that music were public domain, the car companies wouldn't be using it in commercials? How does that work?
Because... um... a good is only worth... err... what you pay for it?

On the ethics issue, who is going to raise this child? Real parents? Or a bunch of scientists?
Scientists can be real parents, too! ;_;
I'd never heard of Greasemetal. Looks like he's making it compatible with GM scripts, too! Thanks!
Is disabling JavaScript and Flash stealing?
Oh.
Will you watch my share of adverts for me, as well? That'd be super, thanks! *wanders off to do useful things*
What are you thoughts on the future viability of a micropayment system? Particularly one that connects the user of a beloved site with its operator.

Why don't you name the companies who are providing your connections? Have they requested your silence on the matter?

The person tasked to implement *that* bit of security was pretty clever, no?
