XScale form Intel will cost less then ARM from anyone else as they will probably get deep discounts for using general processors/chipsets in their Server/Desktop/laptop line and XScale in their ipod/consumer electronics line.
They are placing application stacks that no other company can put together on the Enterprise side (server/mainframes, OS, applications, install, multi-year support, TCO over time). They are also providing services to companies such as Sony/toshiba "cell processor", Microsoft "XB2 CPU" it's a service to develop and a product to sell. They are farming out via services their other products as well as their most valuable assest "researchers". Most basic computing hardware is now a commodity, that Gerstner had realized, and started IBM on a path of Services which Palmisano is continuing.
they concentrate on a base install, and allow the other distro's to work on the niche features...ubuntu for gnome desktop, kubuntu, yolinux for kde desktop, knoppix for live cd stuff, etc. I believe that Debian can still be a great force, however I also believe they need to relegate some of that responsibility to other distro's to avoid fragmentation to the point where they no longer are a factor (ok, extreme case in the distant future).
With all the debian distros out there I feel alot of repetative work is being done. If the Debian leadership would "officially" ask other debian based distro's for assistance on creating a new path for debian and I think that many of the larger distro's would agree as it would allow them to accomplish more of their own work.
Will this gamble prove successful for Microsoft's marketing machine or will it just add to the loses that MS will pile up for the launch of XB2?
Most gamers will pay more attention to E3 then to the MTV special as reports from E3 will be _honest_ and not the fluf that MS puts out. However may MTV may have the better lookin chick's?!?!
This guy will propbably get 6 - 12 months, and probation for a few years.
I would think the 9year sentence was overly harsh and the judge knew this, however it does send a message and sets a high jail term for precedence. Since the "message" has been sent the appeal will be quick with minimum jail time and a fine.
Now to really stop spam, you will need to stop all the idiots that read and buy that crap that's being advertised and put the owners/ceo/presidents of the companies that are advertising via spam in jail.
To stop spam you have to remove the money that fuels it's existence.
IMHO, Mozilla or even firefox is a heavier app than IE. Once running, they're faster (to a trained eye) but sometimes, when pulling out of swap, they will still slug along.
How can I train my eye to see this speed difference?

I would like to see..Ubuntu replace Debian as the base system for many of the current debian distros out there. I think with Ubuntu could promote other distros to focus work on the application and desktop layers while keeping better package compatibility. This could be what UnitedLinux attempted to be. No dis-respect to Debian or it's developers. I believe Debian as a base could have been managed better to take advantage of the many advances the "Deb based distros" have made.
I am not a professional developer or Software Manager so take this opinion as you will....

now it's to late for everyone as it's has been /.
Did anyone else notice the versions of RH they were using? So does this mean that Win2k3 is equiv to RH AS2.1 and IIS6 is equiv to Apache 1.3.23.

Because you don't have to pay them. They pay themselves via your own customers.
I wonder if this will change the policies/practices of HIPPA compliant organizations/companies.

I thought BSD died last week...as it was unable to build a driver (Adaptec) for for a raid card that hosted it's CVS (previous post)...
that is fast becoming dependant on the network and the network's application. This is regressing the PC to a media rich dumb/network terminal...
