The first test for dead branch status is "Do others find them fuckable?" Sadly for most Autistics the answer is no. Whether or not their offspring would flourish is irrelevant when they can't score a mate.
You're right about the $1/gig price point. My money will remain in my wallet until then. Besides price, I'm disappointed at the lack of a 60GB model. 40GB is too little; 80GB is too much. I guess I have to wait until the next release cycle for my mythical $60 60GB Intel SSD.
That's why eSATA enabled external devices with virtually always have USB too. The only eSATA devices I've seen without USB support have been things like large multi-disk enclosures that aren't expected to be mobile.
Check out the big balls on Dr. Norman Matloff! It's great that he is brave enough to stand up and acknowledge the elephant in the room. I hope he manages to keep strong. He will doubtlessly be subjected to accusations of xenophobia, racism, etc. as a result of his speaking out. Meanwhile, Gates wants more 401's because "American schools suck."
There are a couple perfectly good FUSE based tagging filesystems for Linux that fit the bill just fine. You get to keep your data on the filesystem of your choice (ext, btrfs, etc) and then mount the tagging filesystem with a pointer to the data store. I posted a list of them in another comment below. Search for "Semantic (Tagged) Filesystems".
Fedora Commons is far too heavyweight for my taste.
I don't know how you came to that conclusion. Not all employers are under the delusion that a room full of smiling happy faces means higher productivity and better code quality.
Some employers don't give a flying fuck whether or not their employees have fun at work. There's a reason it's called "WORK" and not "PLAY". When did this crap about being happy at work start anyway?
In the case of the Python code I was talking about, I am my own employer so I guess you were right in a accidental way. Sucks to be me...but because I have to write Python code not because my worker (me) dislikes writing Python code.
Coming from someone who writes a lot of Python and currently has a lot of Python code in production, the Python language is a steaming pile of shit. Yep, I said it. It's as if Guido specifically went out of his way to choose the worst possible option at every design decision. The only things Python have going for it are a comprehensive library, "better than Ruby" performance, and mindshare.
I would much rather code in Ruby, Java, C/C++, Lisp, Scheme, Smalltalk, or assembly than Python. Sadly, about 50% of my production code must be in Python. Sucks to be me!
He's joking. Grand parent knows that Apple stuff usually lasts longer than their PC counterparts. He's just riffing on the trite meme that Apple stuff is only purchased by people who think they are hip and trendy. Grand parent is probably not a programmer.
Labor. Obviously time is worth nothing to you. Stop wasting ours. Cost of the repairs will also include shipping, handling, accounting..... you know... overhead.
Grind the stuff up, and recycle.
All of that will be done in China by people being paid $5 a day. Do you know what it costs to ship a board to China and back in a container with 25,000 other boards? Pretty close to nothing.
My parents were the victims of a hit and run. They were sitting in their car in a parking lot, parked with engine off. An elderly couple hit them while trying to park. The couple claimed they they didn't and refused to provide insurance information. They also refused to stop and get out of their car. My parents got their license plate number and filed a criminal report. The officer taking the report said it was indeed a hit and run. This was over a year ago. Nothing has been done. They cops haven't even be bothered to send anyone out to question the elderly couple.
The cliche might have been valid when the site launched, but most of us are probably married professionals by now. I've been married for 13 years and I've got two kids.
Wife is generally not equal to Hot Chick unless you get married very young. Hot Chick phase ends around 22-23.
H.264 is no different to GSM or USB, and you don't hear people crying about how those are not open standards.
The open hardware people "cry" about USB all the time. The USB standards body charges thousands of dollars for a USB Device ID (the USB equivalent of a MAC). It's a major hindrance to open hardware. If you build a cool little widget that talks USB you essentially need to "pirate" a USB Device ID number. Besides being outright unethical and "not the right thing" it can lead to device conficts and all sorts of problems. Forget trying to sell a dozen or two of your widget to other hobbyists.
FYI, an immigrant (documented or not) crossing into the US to earn money to feed his family is not an "invader" anywhere but in your paranoid fantasies. Get a grip, what the fuck are you REALLY afraid of??
Don't assume a racist motivation when there is a clear economic one.
I would guess that the OP is afraid of being forced to carry the additional tax burden cause by massive illegal immigration. He would probably like to use that money to feed his own family and give his kids' a decent college education. He might also be worried about a dillution of the labor market by people who are willing to work for less than going rates.
When the bubble broke a lot of white collar folks were suddenly out on the street competing for unskilled minimum wage jobs. When a new Walmart opened in Austin thousands showed up to apply for a hundred or so positions. There were loads software guys there with fingers crossed, hoping, PRAYING for a shit Walmart job. When the 401k's are cashed out and the unemployment is gone real life hits pretty hard. At that point it's "Can I feed my kids?" versus "Can the other guy feed his kids?" No matter how wonderful a person you think you are you will always choose your own in that situation.
Those days have left me more vigilant than ever about the conditions of the unskilled labor market. I fully realize that I might find myself forced to compete in that market some day.
For anyone who likes their games to run at 30fps at 1024x768 with low graphics settings. The rest of us find that kind of slow actually.
Every sane person knows that the comparison was versus other integrated graphics solutions, not high end discrete gpu's. No one was complaining that a Intel GMA X3500 was slower than a ATI 4890.
Obligatory car analogy: A Honda Accord is slower than a Bugatti Veyron. Wow, Honda cars are crap.
I'd rather they made their integrated graphics fast than simply support new DirectX capabilities. I don't really see the point of supporting certain features if the whole thing is going to be slow. I suppose it's easier to implement something than it is to implement it well.
Have you seen performance numbers for Sandy Bridge's on chip graphics? The "Intel graphics are slow" meme is dead. Sandy Bridge's integrated gpu beats most discrete graphics cards under $50. The Ivy Bridge solution will be even faster.
And just to be clear, *good* managers "produce" leadership, direction, vision, and a whole lot of roadblock-clearing,
I'll give you roadblock clearing. That's a real, concrete function. Leadership, direction, and vision? Sorry but that's a big pile of nothing...pointless bullshit. Managers are the "life coaches" of business.
Please cite an example of this where a corporation committed murder & was not punished by the law.
How about all the people who were killed by toxic poisons produced and promoted by corporations over the years. I'm sure you could easily find hundreds of examples. Here's one to start you off: Tetraethyl lead (TEL) added to gasoline. Ethyl Corp poisoned millions of Americans (pretty much all of them) with lead and was never punished.
"Death rates from a variety of causes have been found to be higher in people with elevated blood lead levels; these include cancer, stroke, and heart disease, and general death rates from all causes." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_poisoning
A more recent example: People living on top of natural gas "fracking" sites are dropping dead of cancer at an alarming rate.
At this point, I think a literal monkey could win against Obama. The man has made nothing but bad choices, had increasingly poor public interactions, and has demonstrated wanton hypocrisy and contempt for the American populace.
In all fairness, the American populace does actually deserve to be the target of "wanton hypocrisy and contempt." Year after year they vote for politicians who ass rape them, their children, their grandchildren, their great grandchildren, and countless generations to come.

Take a look at tagged filesystems. You can do the same thing by hand using symlinks but with much greater pain.

http://semanticweb.org/wiki/SemFS
The following are not really filesystems. You need to use specific programs to search the tag space.

Not me. I love Ruby. I hate Perl. I had to support a large Perl codebase at a former job. It was a nightmare.

Remember the Golden Rule:
He who had the most gold....makes the rules.
Unless your woman makes more than you...in which case you don't need to be wasting time at home playing games, you need to get a better job.
Ha! Let me refer you to the golden rule of marriage: "She who owns the vagina makes the rules."

RAM since DDR has gotten so ridiculously fast that NO SSD has a snowball's chance of catching up anytime soon, if at all,
Apparently you haven't heard of PRAM.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-change_memory
If PRAM doesn't pan out there are other nonvolitile as-fast-or-faster-than-DRAM technologies in the works as well.

Although he sounds stupid, "Dubya" had a measured IQ of 132. If you consider that stupid, then I tip my hat to your loft intelligence.
A 30 point IQ difference is about the point where one person seems "dumb" to another. There are loads of people with IQ's 162 or higher.
