The diffrence between this and the moon is simple. It's more than just been there done that, we went to the moon proved it wasn't made of cheese after all, brought back (I believe) roughly 2000lbs of moon rock, there isn't a whole lot of new things we are going to learn. While the genome project has just started what we will be cappable of. This opens the doors for hundreds of new treatments for diseases, birth defects etc etc. Medical science is going to benifit an whole lot from this in the next 20 years. I can't wait!

I've always wondered what they would do in a situation like that. would they have seperate waves of bombs to go in? One set to break it up real good and another spread apart to get the peices that break off? Though I'm sure if we had enough time, say two years or more we could come up with a plan. Our country busted its ass to get on the moon before Kennedy's deadline, I'm sure the end of the world would make people work even harder :D

  5. Re:Libel on When Background Checks Go Wrong... · · Score: 2

There was something recently about this on MSNBC. What happened was a man kept trying to get jobs but was turned down repeatedly for jobs he was more than qualified for. When he called back to find out why they tell him anythign or they would just hang up. He got suspicious and hired someone to look into it, it turns out on his record I beleive there was a murder convivtion and a DUI, neither of them were his.
What had happened was when the report on the original man was entered into the computer the social security number was mistyped. It was corrected at the source, eventually, but background check services get their records from police stations, put it into their databases for their searching and they also sell out their records to other companies. And they don't tell who they sold to, meaning if an error occours it can be next to impossible to get it corrected.
Libel wouldn't be the case from the company she was turned down for because they purchased data that was public domain from one of these background services. So they aren't the ones with the misinformation, just the background check company.
They need to get someone to look into it if it happens again, or now if they want.

crt of rocket arena fame (one of the most well known and most played mods for Q1 and Q2) had publicly flamed id when the mod code was first released (back in January i believe?) but in the latest announcement he showed a total 180 in his feelings on id's code release.
    His latest:
The development for this has been much easier than the last, thanks to the Quake 3 engine. This really is a developer's dream come true. It's obvious Carmack has put a lot of thought into every part, and the entire mod community feels it.

Hopefully if many of them bid on these domains without checking first, so let them take a extra hit in the wallet.
