I'm going to let you in on a deep, dark, dirty secret. They aren't really trying to solve the problem. Terrorism is a boon to the US and UK governments, because it gives them an excuse to push the respective nations closer to a police state.

A police state is not a consequence of misguided attempts at preventing terrorism, but is instead an end being achieved under the cover of fighting terrorism.

Remember, Terrorism is an end to a means for the terrorists, and the governments "fighting" it.

Think the war in Iraq was about Sept 11 or WMD? Think again. It was because defense contractors have well placed connections. For corporations, your life is only worth what they can get out of it. If they can sell military ordinance by getting your children killed in Iraq, so be it. Their gods are money and power, not the ones your Priest, Rabbi, Cleric, Circle Leader or anything else are telling you about. If you think I'm being paranoid, just look up corporate environmental management. Hell, just look up what Coca-Cola is doing in India.

Human life is just another natural resource for corporations. Nothing more.

What most people don't know is that there are several new features included in the software, as it came from a government project.

All data is regularly bundled up and sent to the Department of Homeland Security for safe keeping.

Profiling software is run against the data to find "Terrorist Red Flag" items, such as injuries consistent with "Terrorist Training Programs". Please note, the occasional false positive is likely but only against people who are in intensive "Assault combat" classes like Karate. Hardly, save, mainstream activities to begin with, at least not to Government thinking!

The license also requires these features be kept in place. Removing such valuable reporting and safety features is in and of itself a terrorist act. Aiding and abetting and all that.

Isn't in cool what they're doing to protect us? Who knew "Privacy" and "Due Process" were so dangerous? Think how much safer we'll be when the government can cut through all that civil liberties red tape.

  20. Actually, it WILL be Scotty beaming you up. on Star Trek's Scotty Dies at 85 · · Score: 3, Funny

Up until now, it was Saint Peter for EVERYBODY. The growing population has necessitated some personnel changes. With more people being born all the time, there are also more people dying off. The work load is far too great for Saint Peter alone, so God has authorized some additional "Heavenly Greeters."

John Candy, for example, will be greeting Canadians. Initially, they weren't going to get their own greeter, but Candy was so persuasive that God decided to give him the job anyway.

James will of course, be in charge of greeting all the Sci-Fi fans and assorted geeks. Naturally, this will cheese off the die hard Star Wars fans. There was some concern about what to do with George Lucas when he arrived, until someone pointed out that after the prequel trilogy, George won't be approaching the pearly gates anyway.

I'm told James has already made a few changes. For example, die hard Trekkers will actually hear some transporter sound effects during the transition from a physical body to a divine existence. Die hard Trekkers who are virgins will actually hear "Beam me up Scotty" just before they get beamed up. Deforest will be doing the voice over for now. If Shatner makes it to heaven his voice will be used instead.

Saint Peter and James are reportedly getting along well, as they both have a fondness for good Scotch and Whiskey. James was quite relieved when he found out Saint Peter had set up a distillery in Heaven, and it was literally staffed by some of the best alcohol artisans on all time.

Of course the Prohibitionists were PISSEED when they found out about it, and even tried to shut it down. Of course, it's kind of hard to shut down the heavenly distillery and wine makers when God has a glass or two with dinner.

Anyway, there's no word yet on the other long term changes. For now, dead geeks will be greeted by James' warm and friendly demeanor. James is quoted as saying "When I was told I'd be Scotty long after I was dead, I didn't realize it was going to be quite so literal. I decided to go with the flow and enjoy it long ago, and now I get to welcome new souls into Heaven. I can't think of a better job than that.
