    Ya know most things that are listed as "Made in America" are only partly made here, maybe assembled from parts manufactured abroad.

    You'd have to in effect recreate the entire manufacturing and mining industries from scratch.

    The thing about Fair Use is it's always been a matter for the courts.

    Someone may think it's fair use while the rights holder does not, they take it to a judge and let him decide.

    Wouldn't they? Doesn't someone still have to sign their name to it?

    When brought up in the past they were not real DMCA notices, its just everyone had an "understanding".

    Economy of scale.

    It's probably seen as more efficient to have a single large power generator burn the fuel and turn it into electricity that gets converted to mechanical energy; then hundreds of thousands of smaller less efficient generators burn it and turn it into mechanical energy.

    Here in Texas they tried years ago and are trying again.

    Problem though was the initial attempt failed because the oil companies and airlines got laws passed making it nearly impossible for one to be built.

    Yea, and oil wells too...

    Go out to Fl and Ca, and you can find cell towers designed as cacti/church steeple, or an oil well in what is in effect a shell designed to look like a small office building.

    NVIDIA might have supported them as a matter of advertising, since it is a GPU related project.

    Except they have competing products.
    This would be more like Lays advertising CocaCola on their chip bags.

    Instead now Lays (Apple) has to setup their own brand of soda from scratch to fill the place Coke did.

    Yea, would more branding have impacted it much?
    They had no competing service and as a result are having to make one from scratch. Just let Google put their logo off in a corner and avoid all this hassle.

    My issue though is the stuff Apple is leaving up to third parties because of this.
    Google Maps was integrated with many metro services, for my city the new Apple Maps do not have that service and instead direct me to a set of rather poorly reviewed map apps in the store.

    It's squarely on Apple that they chose not to include the same degree of integration and as a fix are asking me to buy a piss poor alternative.

    It was a gimmick to gain market share, it failed, so why keep doing it?

    They already have the market share in NA/Eu so no need for that same deal.

    Wasn't there one about that girl who after being funded and started on the project saw how much work it'd really be and made up some BS about how the Sun was psychically talking to and her telling her to stop or the Moon would try and kill her.

    Everyone got pissed because of how obviously a scammer she was.

    It's due to all those NIMBY people.

    New designs are really safe, much more then the existing ones, but we can't build them since no one wants one in their state/city.
    We need the power, but we can't build new ones so we're forced to keep running the ones we have passed their duty cycle.

    Yea, wasn't there that reactor facility a couple years back that was leaking Tritium from a pipe that was not on any registered blueprint and they ended up getting a slap on the wrist fine?
