    Problems? What problems?

    You seem to misunderstand the point of modern elections. They are not in place so that the people can choose their representatives. They are there to suppress revolt by displacing the responsibility of bad government into the people.

    Actually counting the votes is a pointless expense. The system works just as well by flipping a coin.

    Azerbaijan are ahead of their time in more ways than the obvious one.

    It depends on how you look at it. Maybe the "two parties controlled by an oligarchy" is the final step of democracy right before it turns into something better.

    Maybe Azerbaijan are far from that next system, still playing with rigged elections, instead of making them pointless like the more civilized countries.

    IMHO at this point we have to assume the hardware is compromised at some level. Not necessarily a backdoor but the hardware random number generator might not be that random.

    We also have to assume that the power sockets are compromised. All computers that are, or have been at any point, attached to any source of power not directly coming from the sun must be considered infected, and shot in the brain.

    Just as with government spending, the important the RoI must take into account the origin of each money input.

    i.e.: The $2,000 must not be compared to the $561,000, but to the cost of developing/acquiring the botnet.

    Programming on itself isn't so useful, but learning to divide and organize a complex idea into it's base elements is one of the biggest flaws of the existing curricula. Almost no effort is done in that direction before kids reach college ages and not even for all kinds of degrees, at that point.

    If they believed in their project so much they would use their own money to back it, but they don't.

    With the tiny big difference that if they invest their fortune, once the project is finished they have to sell the product.

    Kickstarter "only" guarantees buyers. It doesn't matter how amazingly rich you are, knowing that you've got buyers is always good.

    For example, Microsoft could have kickstarted their surface 2 to check if there's still enough... clients.

    IT depends on your point of view.

    If you ignore the kickstarter and only buy the game once it's made, EA's death marches gives you shitty games every time, while the polar opposite gives you failed projects (which you just ignore) and great games (which you can then buy).

    What I don't like about Kickstarter is the long time before I start wanting something and I get it.

    I like it to exist. It allows many projects that would otherwise be abandoned. I just don't want to know about them until they are ready to ship the product.

    Knowing about the amazing toys I may have in a year's time makes me appreciate less those I've got right now.
