I just figured the raw data from that kind of imagery would be sufficient for any kind of analysis rather than having to actually merge together the different sets of data from thousands of individuals concerning whats visible. I'm sure the number of sats you'd need for a full measure of the escaping light would be a lot easier to work with than this initiative.
Someone please mod the parent up. This post applies to pretty much 90% of the usual summary-reading-only comments we're seeing.
Funny thing is however, Slashdot is an incarnation of exactly how we always say we SHOULDNT operate in IT, but mostly do. Reactionary only, no depth or foresight required!
Seems to me the bigger difference is they do not have a France to supply aid and organizational support. International recognition is a big boost to peoples willingness to stand up for a cause, as without international scrutiny there will be a huge swath who hold back for fear their efforts will not only be empty, but possibly make things worse.
Oh, and these people do have worse complaints than taxation, with or without representation.
Sorry to sound so bitter, but please remember that the USA wouldn't exist if the world had ignored the words people like Thomas Paine distributed, or without the international support Franklin drew in, etc etc etc.
I'm pretty sure he means the archetype that sees the situation where a new user will have to look into documentation or how-to's to get their particular setup working and simply tells them to deal with it as "The Linux People" in this case.
The vast majority of users want "A computer that does what I want" not "A computer that I have to make do what I want". Granted, they miss out on a lot but it does not change reality. Even if a solution seems trivial to those who are interested in the details, most do not want to have a need for a solution to begin with.
GPP:
That's FOUR GIGABYTES just to use a couple of functions! Visual Studio can be replaced with some light compiler (like VC++ Express) but that's still an about 1.7 gigabytes total. PP:
You can use the free MS c++ compiler and avoid the entire VS download, now you've cut off over 2 gigs of your download size. Don't confuse you're lack of knowledge about one set of tools with your more in depth knowledge of another set of tools. Parent: Did he not JUST say that himself?
Almost forgot. do not forget the near verbatim similarity between the original Everquest game mechanics and the Toril(/Sojourn/Sojourn3/etc) Used-to-be-Diku codebase. Aradune I'm glaring at you.
Let us not forget Muds. PvP on MajorMUD's was one of the primary reasons I'm able to type as well as I (for the most part) do. Some of the boards we played on had anywhere between 50 to 500 player peaks at the time, depending on how much exposure it had, and some were donation supported instead of subscription.
I mean jebus, its still around today as well, and they have an actual market of people paying for a massively multiplayer text based game. Its definitely not shine, polish, and brand name thats keeping them around.
Seriously, I think a U.S. invasion would be better than a weapons deal, simply because we wouldn't leave the weapons behind after the fighting is done. Ever seen Lord of War? Seems that munitions being left in a theater of operations was quite common as it would cost more to bring them back and re-inventory it than to simply restock. I have no idea how prevalent this would be, or whether such a cost saving measure would fly in Iraq or Afghanistan.
I am not quite sure I have any idea what you just said overall, but if ones getting out of jury duty versus losing their job then I cannot argue with that.
I meant more this smugness I keep hearing over and over that essentially you'd have to be stupid to not get out of jury duty.
Not everyone who is intelligent is going to lose their jobs or their health/finances due to serving as a juror i'm pretty sure.
Out of curiosity, why are jury selections screened at all beyond ensuring they aren't sending the summons to a mental hospital, or someone with a conflict of interest, or something? How is that rationalized?
I forgot about that fact, and never did understand it to begin with.
and role the dice. TWICE. Who's stupid now? Spelling-fascism aside, I was merely making the point that it is NOT smart to skip out on jury duty if you think you are reasonably intelligent. Where the hell did you pull the rest of that rant from?
To the fellow who points out that people who are too dumb to get out of jury duty are put in charge of million dollar technical decisions which they cannot possibly understand.... yes. You are 100% correct and you make an excellent post. Seriously though, why would ANYONE consider it smart to get out of jury duty when the decisions of the juries impacts case law like no other. Why is "Getting out of jury duty" considered smart? Yes, it is a hassle and there are opportunity costs involved, but think of the cost of ALL JURIES BEING RETARDED.
In fact, i think we may be seeing that cost all over the friggan place at the moment.

Word though.
Wouldn't it be just as easy to record a spin of the earth from the dark side?
Am i missing exactly why the stars light pollution keeps us from seeing would be a more useful measure than simply the brightness of light emitted?

Seems to me more like VichyBell for the Neo-Fascist-ically inclined =)
Vlad the Impaler probably managed that accidentally if nothing else =)

lightspeed delay!
i meant specifically the modified diku codebase used by toril/sojourn over the past 15 years or so. Check it and compare and contrast.

So let me understand whats being said. Its tedious, and its boring.
and its essential.
but we'll be not doing that?
Well, touche on that one.
I meant that more this general rule that seems to exist in the states that smart people get out of jury duty.

Food is mugger fuel!
Fuel is boat food!
sorry, i'm having a catastrophic semantics kind of month.
Wouldn't that be like a fisherman selling his boat to afford the fuel?
yes yes, bad, but just sayin.
If I did manage to magiclone someones Ferrari...
Should I pay them, or the designers at Ferrari?
Or the trucking company that brought the finished items from the manufacturer to the lot it was purchased from?
or all three?
But, c'mon guy. He's so serial.
