and despite not being a christian or believing in creationism..
There is one thing that i always find an interesting counterpoint. If one thinks in terms of Terry Pratchett's book Strata, a significantly advanced enough race may technically be able to build a world with an artificial fossil record, fossil fuels, etc. If one were able to convert matter to energy and energy to matter, why wouldnt one be able to create a substance that appears to have undergone a certain period of radioactive decay but was created in an instant? If one were significantly advanced enough geneticists, who would be to say one couldnt develop a form of precursor life as a program that would eventually decompress or process itself towards a specific set of complex organisms of ones design, especially if one understood the way the planet they were deployed upon would form and change over time?
Granted, a god is not necessary for any of these infinitely small, but non-zero possibilities; But it MIGHT be possible. If a candidate actually gave those responses I would be rather impressed despite finding them not at all likely. These scenarios would not even discount evolution at the same time, as evolution may just be our description of the process of life undergoing exposure predicted pressures. They would not be mutually exclusive.
This is a far cry from saying "The bible says it happens this way" in any event, which is just refusing to investigate ANY possibilities but the preset words.
Between that and the fact that amounts awarded when suing someone are determined by the courts, it's why we seem to enjoy a fairly decent level of judicial sanity up here.
Tsk, you forget that clearchannel and friends surely want to have crappy ad laden cross-faded dj-talked over streams to be your new advertising service provider.
Realized i forgot to account for the rest of the world.
For Soccer Fields:
Fifa approvable fields must be between 100m and 110m in length.
so from 1229868692000000 to 1118062447272727.27, or one quadrillion, two hundred twenty-nine trillion, eight hundred sixty-eight billion, six hundred ninety-two million to one quadrillion, one hundred eighteen trillion, sixty-two billion, four hundred forty-seven million, two hundred seventy-two thousand, seven hundred twenty-seven fifa approved soccer fields.
91.44 meters: length of an American football field, excluding end zones.
1 light year = 9.4605284 × 10^15 meters.
so 103461596675415.57305336832895888, or one hundred three trillion, four hundred sixty-one billion, five hundred ninety-six million, six hundred seventy-five thousand, four hundred fifteen-ish football fields per light year.
which makes 13 light years 1345000756780402.4496937882764654, or one quadrillion, three hundred forty-five trillion, seven hundred fifty-six million, seven hundred eighty thousand, four hundred two-ish football fields.
Miguel de Icaza, vice president of develop platforms for Novell and leader of the Mono project, said that Microsoft offered up its opinion and guidance on how to build a Mono-based implementation of Silverlight that runs on Linux. I somehow imagine if that made it to a courtroom, they'd simply have to print off the press release.
that was most definitely not the case in terms of the older union employees. They may KNOW the right way to do things but they certainly did not implement it. I ran a urethane injector that no one in the union was willing to run due to the effort involved, and saw the amount of value involved in their machining and cnc programming.
Of course, far be it from pro-union people to listen to the fact that THIS WAS PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND SITTING ON ASS DOING _NOTHING_ IS NOT THE RIGHT WAY TO DO ANYTHING (unless your goal is to do nothing).
The big thing is, people will only work as hard as they have to for the quality of life they desire. I remember working shops in colorado where we would have a large number of union workers, and temp workers to pick up the slack on big lines, and the union members would go absolutely BALLISTIC any time there was actual motivated workers among the temp pool. The worst thing was, the most efficient work in the place was being done by the temps while the union members sat on their asses and bitched. The amount of disparaging anti-mexican comments I heard over the course of my tenure there was pathetic considering the actual value and output of the people uttering them versus the value and output of those they were ripping on.
Now this may not be the case EVERYWHERE, but in every single union shop I have worked it has been the case. Granted these were all long standing unions in companies that have renegotiated reasonably frequently.
From the looks of it, Unions are necessary to protect the employees, but once the employees are protected, what else do they do?
Try to "Make Things Easier".
And this is personal experience, not bills or pamphlets.
That is an excellent point about microsoft changing to try to BE intuitive being the big difference. Its more that intuitive or not is irrelevant in most workplaces, its change that needs to be trained for and will be trained for regardless of ease-of-use even if its only someone covering their ass. Can't have a "Why is utility X borking everything from utility A to utility W?" meeting without being able to say "Improper use, which is contrary to how users were trained".
At least I wouldnt want to be the one dealing with the liability.
Mod parent up as its an excellent point. People do not seem to understand that just because grandma can pick it up doesnt mean there is no cost related in training employees for completely new software. So many employees need to have their hand held every step of the way when they perform a task for the first time (granted usually once is enough, but UI and function name recognition is definitely not the de jure employee response).
Change a process even slightly and you'll get the most mind-bogglingly bewildered looks, and the change from the 97/2003 style to the ribbon is definitely not a "slight" change.
That will be sad news to gun shop owners.
or libraries, or sporting good stores, or the ever popular analogy, auto dealerships, etc etc.
Where does one draw the line?
and despite not being a christian or believing in creationism..

personally, screw the peer reviewed journal, just show me this evidence to begin with.
Welcome to Canada at that point =D

No mod points, but you gave me a chuckle if no one else =)
The specifics shes complaining about would be TERRIBLE precedents to set.
Tsk, you forget that clearchannel and friends surely want to have crappy ad laden cross-faded dj-talked over streams to be your new advertising service provider.
Tsk, confusing the virtual with the real again would we?
and clean out that keyboard!
Touche, I've been out-semantics'd =D
I'll hand in my nitpickers card at the door =(
The day busloads of sweaty cheerleaders are within a kilometer of anything relating to Linux is the day the adoption rate breaks the gauge.

wow, slow night.
Is this the embrace or extend step?
and when does step three kick in?
I should clarify that as well, its not a question of ANTI or PRO union. I'm simply anti-laziness, anti-bigotry, and anti-asshole.

whipping off responses at work always bites me in the end. I hope you feel better now though!

Somebody want to call a paramedic?

You pull the plug on this thing?
All right, don't touch him.
Don't touch him!
He didn't hear the gun drop.
He didn't hear it?!

It's only a glitch.
A temporary setback.
