I'm a most co-operative. Come here with a court order and I'll release the username.

We had a case where someone had used someone elses CC card number to sub to a porn site.

Cops came down, we did the investigation and sat there and said "well we know which account was used to log in, which know which phone number the call came from. We can't tell you until you've got a warrant. And when you've got that information that's all you've got. You can't prove who was on the other end of the phone, just that it was that phone - unless they can forge CLI."
So for all intents and purposes it was plain who the perp was but the cops never came back with a warrant forthe information and the perp never got any comeback.

Copy protection is the mechanism that prevents me from exercising my legal right to fair use (in the USA).

    The system says :
Copyright violation is illegal in most parts of the world. We pay our taxes to finance the police to protect us from law breakers such a this. The state has failed us so we must take the law in to our own hands. And I actually think it woul dbe a good idea for them. I'm not sure that they have no interest in the movie market. A move towards open source software means they have less invested in the software copy protection angle.
One of IBM'm main benefits of OSS is that they don't have to invest so much in OS development for their new hardware.
From only reading what was posted earlier about ATA OSS will suffer from this idea. Certainly I have yet to see any benefits for drive consumers, or producers for that matter.
If I have it right then it's like a printer cartidge manufactuer persuading paper people to make sure their paper can't be photocopied so that people have to buy ink cartridges instead of photocopier cartridges.

When the functionality of the product gets tightened and the undocumented features fail well that's just too bad.

It's good though that the subverted uses get proper built in functions. That the font tag is being depreciated is a good thing. Just look at the spew that Dreamweaver etc. *have* to output to ensure consistency. CSS is a beautiful evolution.

The plan9, Inferno system of distributed computing through namespace binding is the true gift of this project. Although I did notice some of the Styx functionality has been removed for security (Styx is the network).

You implement services by mounting your service as a file system. You can then execute all of your machines capabilities through echo & cat!!
