Species don't have goals. When in history have a majority of humans ever agreen upon a common goal? You seem suprised that humans are not all clones, some of us even have thought processes of our own. Of course this means that they may hold opinions in oposition to your own opinions.

WE are only species on the planet uniquely equipped to have even a chance of surviving the inevitable destruction of the Earth.

Unless you plan on destroying the earth soon, that is a very short term thinking. We may be the most advanced species right now, however that may only be because we made all other species that had a chance extinct. In any case there is always cosmic panspermia that doesn't require our level of intelligence to spread.

I just don't get this "HUMANS BAD" crap that so many are spewing.

At least that moral argument was backed up with a justification. Where is the justification for humans are not bad?

    Golden path anyone???

Quotes from Dune are not arguments for or against anything.

While this is true, there's a quickly closing time window where it might be possible to keep that lifestyle while still having a planet to live on, by switching to alternative power sources when they're sufficiently developed.

At one point in the past, stone-based tools allowed humans to improve their lifestyle. As soon as better alternatives were developed, a switch occurred. This isn't any different (except for the irreparable implications of not making the switch soon).

That's a bloody big exception. So what happens if the new technology is not developed at all or even delayed? We just keep on destroying what we have until its gone?

This is the heart of the anti-Apple rant. Some of you are so stubborn that you'd rather change your own oil, even if it costs you MORE money to do so than to let somebody else dictate the steps (proper steps that work just fine, mind you) and process to change the oil. It's this mentality that the has driven the rest of us to coin the phrase, "he's so damn smart he's stupid", when it comes to talking about our software developer coworkers.

My understanding is different than yours. Some of us want to choose who changes our oil (DIY or 3rd party) and don't want to be locked into $car_manufacturer who would likely cost us $x * %30.

I wouldn't use the word belief. Its just my observations and I'll be happy to change it given evidence. Without some external "magical" process the simplest explanation is that thought occurs within the brain. Thoughts appearing, without the processing of external inputs or internal feedback, sounds very similar to divine inspiration, and we are back at god. What do I have against god? Once god is used as an explanation it is no longer possible to have a reasonable conversation or argument.

While I have seen babies born, I can't speak about your personal experiences. However, The womb is not the dark silent cave you may imagine. There is plenty of inputs for the brain to start processing. I would rather search for the reason behind your second child's anger rather than believe it was due to an unexplainable spontaneous emotion.

Brains do more than compute. They originate ideas, they dream, they create, they appreciate, they love and they hate and they hurt. Machines can't and won't do any of those.

Dreaming, creating, love, etc, its all output based on input just like a computer. I haven't seen any evidence otherwise. Just because its not currently understood how it works does not mean its magic. That path leads to god.

A computer is binary, on or off. It's just logic gates (and, or, nand, nor) strung together.

Sure current popular ones are. There is work on more complex wetware computers though. In any case brains are either on or off, its just harder to get them back to on once they are off.
