What part of his theories do you disagree with? His theories are nothing new and not controversial. It is only the question on whether his engineering can scale the way he wants it to. All they need is an extra $50k to prove it within a year. Look at how that compares to ITER budget...

This is a good thing. ITER is a complete waste of money. Look at Lawrenceville Plasma Physics. Their Focus Fusion Indiegogo campaign (http://goo.gl/Cmjhw3) can't even get 200k in funding so that they can prove within the next year on whether their technology is scalable enough to commercialize. ITER, on the other hand, says they will commercialize in another 30-50 years. Their numbers are useless and this is after throwing billions at them per year. There are more promising fusion research projects out there that don't need billions per year to waste.

  14. Motivation is your problem on Ask Slashdot: How Do You Stay Fit At Work? · · Score: 1

First of all you probably won't get huge results from exercise only at work, but following your criteria, here is what I would recommend: Use a timer of some sorts. I don't care if it is a manual one on your desk or if it is on your phone. Set the timer for every 30 minutes. When the timer goes off you do as many exercises as you can. Start off with pushups and alternate between narrow, medium and wide grip. After the set up pushups are done (don't worry it won't take more than 60 seconds), move onto the next exercise. Before I got serious and started doing weight training with my power rack, I would walk out the front door to the fire escape and do pullups (while wearing lifting gloves) off of it. If you can do pullups while at work this is awesome. Another great exercise to alternate with is wall squats. They won't replace weighted squats but you can feel the burn if you hold it for a few minutes. There are a lot of exercises you can do for minor muscle groups but since you won't be doing that many sets, I recommend sticking to the big, compound muscle exercises. Just make sure that you don't neglect your core. If time is an issue at work, alternate between exercises every 30 minutes. Like I said, your greatest adversary here is your state of mind. If you want to see real results, I recommend starting a fitness program at home. I did p90x at home for about 6 months and got good results. But I got bored with it and am now using a power rack for bench press, squats, deadlift, etc.

Actually, Fusion power is today. Check out the http://www.lenr-canr.org/ website to learn more. Now we just have to convince those distinguished, elderly scientists.. As for AGI, people making those predictions 50 years ago were fresh and didn't really understand the scope of the problem. They thought that creating the intelligence of a 6 year old would be easy and playing chess would be the difficult problem... The predictions of AGI researchers today will probably be much more accurate.

don't be stupid. This wouldn't be installed if it cost a million per person. Your over exaggerating to make your point and it is ridiculous. This could have to get down to thousands (or even 10's of thousands) to be economical. The fact of the matter is, at that price point, it would SAVE the insurance companies a lot of money. The really expensive insurance claims are the ones that could have been caught and avoided early.

I was disappointed when I got my SciAmer magazine in the mail with this article as the cover story. The reason being is that this isn't a story. All it talks about is some scientists who are interested in finding life that didn't derive from the same source as all the known life on Earth. Ok, that's nice, but it's no front page story and is certainly nothing new.
