People needs to stop buy / upgrade for no reason and this apply to everything.
And they also should understand that you need to put some effort in understanding the product before buy it. But people likes new shiny stuff and don't want to think about problems.
I'm so happy enough people saw how pointless Vista is and maybe before switching to the new OS they will listen to knowledgeable people more.
I have a dual boot XP / Ubuntu on my Asus EEE 1000H.
Firefox feels more responsive under XP then it is under Ubuntu.
I use the eee-pc kernel and I turn down all the visual extras both under Ubuntu and XP. Also Firefox runs with the same addons: Adblock, Flashblock and NoScript.
Maybe, just maybe this time they will solve the security out of the box. But what will happen after 1 month, when everyone has installed all they need and started to use Internet?
First rule for a secure network.
Do not get public attention. :)
1. Make a web site. ...
2. Claim Firefox is insecure while IE is.
3. Get yourself noticed on Slashdot.
4
5. Profit?
Won't work if only port 80 or 443 are open. SSH can work with any Firewall, while VPN might break the connection.
Use the Restart Addon for Firefox.
Ctrl+Alt+R and you are back in business.
When I need to avoid a Firewall I use a SSH proxy server. How easy it is to use depends on every applications.
You can use any port you want, but the downside is you need to have a SSH server somewhere on the outside.
What sound does it make when it zooms? I hope it's a good one.
I'd like to see an open-wrt router firmware with.
8+ - eth ports for multi wan (load balancing and failover)
8+ - port USB so I can attach everything
Different size distribution so we can choose what to install and a nice auto-update to support all the devices.
With all this recession talking everyone is thinking about saving money.
Going open source on ALL levels will greatly reduce the costs now and in the future. And I'm quite positive it will also improve the reliability.
Now everyone is scared enough to try something new to save money.
Agree, but explain this to his Mom.

I have Adblock, does that mean I can use legaly Pirate Bay? :)
I agree but, ....
This is the same as bitching to Matrix that is only a Ghost in the Shell rip-off and GiS is a rip-off of Blade runner.
Each new good movie, game, will add a new layer and reuse whatever worked in the past.
You can't expect from every new game to be a revolution.
You have to accept that a lot of new stuff is only a visual remake of whatever was here before.
Dude, you can't dodge death.
My results.
Asus EEE 1000H
Windows XP / Firefox 3.0.6 : 57
Ubuntu 8.10 / Firefox 3.0.6 : 47
Ubuntu 8.10 / Wine / Firefox 3.0.6 : 57

Don't ask me, I don't buy software.
Not when the only OS you can buy needs the latest hardware to run.
Still better then most Telcos DNS.
Gamers are not niche market.
How long until the torrents will bring down the whole network and we will discuss again net-neutrality?
Fully agree.
But ...
2000 lacks of built-in Firewall and the support for the latest games.
This is why we won't see dx10 on XP.
Outside of the geek world, Singularity is mostly unknown.
This will generate some media attention.
And this is how it works here:
Viruses : Still present
Reliability: Same
32bit performance: Slower then XP
64bit: Slower then XP
GPU: Faster
So why should I go for the new system when it's not clear if it will perform better then XP?
Win7: will get the same lame welcome unless it removes the useless shite called DRM.
Maybe, just maybe this time they will solve the security out of the box.

I guess it's just more Marketing bullshit.
All we need is a spam filter for telephone numbers.
And some phone who can use the list.
