Funny reading this. I had a deep depression over the years, some times it does return to haunt me. The solution I found was the same... I keep studying. Some people don't understand my reasons, but I keep on studying japanese, german, I also read a lot about psychology and even astrology (hit me). I wish I had time to go college again and study formally psychology and neuropsychology, maybe pharmacy and others if God gives me enough time. I also I'm working to finish my master thesis in aeronautic engineering and starting my PhD. I wish I had more futile thoughts... it seems people have more desire to stay "here". Games are just one door to get out of the body prison and skip reality when it gets boring. It was nice to me see other ppl have the same problem... it's some kind of relief.
I'm a mechanical engineer, master in aeronautics and I agree with you totally.
Most people don't care about our profession, and this reflects in wages. Soon or later the actual engineers will retire or leave to a more profitable area... at that time, it will take 10 years to create good replacement.
Civil aviation was something complex and dangerous too! At the beggining, aircraft had "militar" genes, reusing bombers wings etc.
Maybe it can evolve, although I cant see actually great economical use of such technology... space tourism? Its usually something that comes after commercial exploration!

Get planes-> War, commerce, fun
Get steam engines -> War, commerce, fun
etc
I cant see where commerce appears in space exploration.
I remember it started with Napster. A simple and stupid program. They went for it.
Then net evolved... kazaa. Remember? They did break it.
Then net evolved more and more. All these people will achieve with this stupid kind of law is the next evolution of P2P.
It can evolve more, believe!
