  4. Re:DivX (the codec) is irrelevant on DivX 7 Adds Support For Blu-ray Rips (H.264/MKV) · · Score: 1

I don't live in the USA and I follow a number of TV Shows (Galactica, Terminator, Lost) that take a while to reach here (Chile).
This way I'm able to participate in forums, etc. form current episodes, otherwise I would receive too many spoilers

Everything is coded in DivX (mostly 720p, another plus, as we won't have HD anytime soon - only on premium cable, with a special HDMI output decoder).

I'm lucky to live in a -*third world*- country where communications are on the bleeding edge (test platform even)... 8Mbps is common, so I'm able to watch everything on the same day (some times before) they are aired in the US. (no kidding... some episodes you can get are high quality HD without any logos, available one o two days before schedule).
I still don't get why there is the need to add H.264 support to DivX.
DivX format can handle 1080p resolutions pretty well. What I'm missing?

Yep, a common origin, a race that, knowing they were alone, seeded the whole galaxy with pieces of their DNA. All intelligent races in ST descend form this race, allowing inter-race breeding, and having similar overall bone structure, that evolved differently according to each planet environment.
It would be very sad if we finally realize WE are that race. I hope we aren't.

I've been using NetIdentity (formerly MailBank) for more than 10 years just for email. It features a decent (not impressive) web interface and POP3.
I can only remember it being out for a total of 5 days in all this time, and I always got all my emails (not aware of any lost).
    My 2 cents.

  12. Re:Good riddance. on Australia Scraps National ID Plan · · Score: 3, Interesting

Maybe it'a a matter of country size, but here in Chile we implemented a national ID number decades ago, ONE number and one ID card for almost everything, my ID number is the same as my passport, same as my driver's licence, same as my Medicare, same as my social security, etc. Even private companies, like banks, insurance, telephone, cable, etc. identify you with this number. Easy! and very convenient. The number is given to the new born when registred. Our IRS (SII) tracks your taxes with this number. Companies are assigned with an ID also (much higher number than individuals). Even foreigners can ask for an ID number. (needed if you want to work in here) Again, it's a very convenient system! I don't know how you guys can keep a whole big country running without this. Just my two cents.
