The Linux sound packages are a mess. Also, I would love to learn about Linux solutions that can compete to Apple's professional studio software. These days, the cost of Apple's suite is down to less than a 1000$.
Given the volume of data AP processes in a day and the requests for copying information, they are liable to make mistakes. The fact remains that they issued a refund of sorts, so it is clear that they have a review process in place. The licensing software can be better, but that is a different issue. I don't see any reason to mock AP for this one. The author pretty much does a "HA! HA! I fooled you and wasted your time!". Pathetic.
That reflects poorly on your grasp of security and the ignorance of your users. With WIFI hotspots sprouting all over, it is easier than ever to snoop someone's password and credit card details. Have some consideration for the end user and put a self signed certificate for your checkout area.
O' rly? What happens in a foreign country when you take out a laptop like this in a cafe and every Tom, Dick and Harry decides to ask you for your ID and they can't read English? You wrote it on the local language using babbelfish, now you are screwed.
Oh please! What about a freaking field trip to a hospital instead of screwing around with a computer? You are training humans to be robots blindly following a process. Human interaction is what doctors are supposed to be good at. Eventually a computer can order a battery of laboratory tests and prescribe medicines based on what the pharmaceutical companies peddle.
The PAN card, the ration card and your passport are all unique ids in India. The problem is that pretty much all of them can be duplicated. This national ID card is just to throw in biometrics into the mix. That doesn't do anything to prevent corruption at the database level. I am talking about bribery, lets leave hacking and related crap alone for now.
"32-bit compatible. To ensure simplicity and flexibility, Mac OS X still comes in one version that runs both 64-bit and 32-bit applications. So you donâ(TM)t need to update everything on your system just to run a single 64-bit program. And new 64-bit applications work just fine with your existing printers, storage devices, and PCI cards."
Vista x64 is better than XP x64 because of driver support. But breaking compatibility with a full transition to 64bit computing is bad. I personally prefer the OS X route. The migration path has been much simpler. Besides, with the new LLVM compilers, you get performance improvements all over the place.
I didn't RTFA, but the entire premise is stupid as observed by various other posters. In India, the railways transports over 18 million passengers and more than 2 million tonnes of freight daily. Also consider the fact that you have locomotives powered by electricity and not diesel at the metros. Their energy efficiency is directly related to the grid.
What next? Walking is more energy efficient than flying?
Also it is noteworthy to mention that one of the most popular business account software for small and medium businesses in India (Tally) works fine under Wine.
Here in India we get computers from every major vendor pre-installed with Linux. You get to pay more if you want Windows installed. I don't see why Linux on the desktop will be a problem. These vendors are global (HP, IBM, DELL, ACER, etc.). If you have an application without a Linux version, I would recommend a virtual machine.
Nothing beats Windows for an expensive gaming console, but that isn't the only reason to use a desktop computer.
Can some one with a clue please fix the headline on this article? UK is not the same as England. English legislation and English databases do not apply to the whole of the UK.
The coloring book is the worst idea ever. What next? Coloring books of gas chambers / children dying of starvation / bloated corpses from Katrina / etc? Idiots who came up with this idea are no different from the fanatics they are fighting against.
If my kids want to learn about the !@# that happens in the world, they will read up on history and current affairs when they are old enough to understand.
Very good point. Do parental controls disable Safari?

You mean I actually have to walk in that crowd?
This is true of most IT departments.
Did you mean a Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radioisotope_thermoelectric_generator
This is not about haves and have-nots. There is a line between sanity and insanity. I am sure there are other more fruitful ways to splurge some cash.
So that the games run on a normal machine?
browsing what? no revenue from ads, no traffic from ads = bad.

Start using services like Jamendo.

Have you ever tried installing device drivers for XP 64bit edition? Vista 64 is better in that department.
I thought the good versions of Vista and Windows 7 cost way more than a couple of hundred bucks.

Trying to brainwash toddlers is sick.
