I get your point but consider that people write crap in the English language however that doesn't mean the English language is crap. The same is true of BASIC.
He introduced a bunch of kids to the concept of computer programming. That was the original purpose of BASIC (and LOGO while I'm at it). The fact that BASIC was often misused is not the fault of the language.
I remember the time when having BASIC as a computer skill was an asset. I started programming in FORTRAN, so BASIC seemed like a gift from the gods at the time.
You're right, BASIC is pretty retro however if it encourages someone to get more interested in programming as a career what's the problem with that?
Over half an hour to do a simple file copy from Vista to my MP3 player of choice. Same process takes less than five minutes with W2K, XP, and - dare I say it? - Linux.
Life is too short to waste it waiting for Vista to complete a simple file copy.
"McAfee's warning may have been prompted by the fact the Software Freedom Law Center, an open source advocacy group, recently filed a series of lawsuits against alleged GPL violators."
The article isn't very clear on this point but it sounds like McAfee is almost admitting they violated the GPL and are about to end up in court.
"But the complaint goes beyond software licensing politics and charges Apple with deliberately designing its iPod hardware to be incompatible with WMA."
Or, it's OK for MS to have its own proprietary audio format but if Apple does the same thing it's suddenly a problem.
When I collect my $25 million from the Honorable Juju Majinki, who is holding these funds in trust, I plan to donate part of those funds to the OLPC defense fund.
What's with the "Prisoner" reference? The ceaseless spying on the occupants of the Village was an aspect of the series, not the overarching theme.
I know I'm quibbling because the Prisoner reference could have been worked into the summary quite easily but asking "Who is Number One?" isn't relevant to the referenced article. This question will also set off flame wars in some circles.
This is an observation, not a criticism, and a plea for more succinct summnary writing. The reference to the Prisoner is apt but could have been better phrased.
How true. I tried to warn people that their hair would fall out and blindless would ensue but would anyone believe me then? MP3's are the devil's work.
Repent and bow at the altar of vinyl before it's too late.
It doesn't make "logical sense" because it violates "common sense".
This isn't a new concept. Someone's just come up with a new theory to support the concept. This may just be another way of viewing the oft proposed heat death of the universe due to entropy.
Stephen Hawkin amongst others has explained this before. In short, time as we know it didn't exist before the Big Bang. During the inflationary period of the Big Bang time was probably faster than we observe it today. Currently time has stablised somewhat but is probably slowing due to the expansion of the universe.
All this suggests that time may be intertwined with space and now we're back to Einstein's space time continuum. This is one of consequences of Einstein's general theory of relativity.
Me? I'm going to hide under a rock with a case of beer until this all blows over.
I live near Hungary and they don't have such restrictive ISP policies.
Sorry about your airline seating arrangements. I'm still trying to figure out what they have to do with the topic but apparently they're of significant interest to you.
They're an Internet Service Provider (ISP). They're not supposed to decide what you can or cannot download. They're only supposed to provide the means to connect to the Internet and to let you do what you will on the Internet.
I had to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Vista in order to get it working properly. As delivered the computer was a mess. There was a lot of software I didn't want that was preinstalled and whomever did the original installation completely screwed up the disk partitions. Hardly Microsoft's fault however in my experience the average home user won't reinstall the OS, they'll just put up with the problems and complain that the OS doesn't work properly.
I'm willing to give Vista a chance but for now my main system is a W2K box that has performed flawlessly for over four years. I don't need Vista and I think that what a lot of the feedback from the users at large is also reporting.
"I was at the Kennedy School (of Government at Harvard University) a couple of weeks ago, and some guy got up and said, "If there's a security incident at the Beijing Olympics, it's going to change the course of capitalism forever," and I'm like, 'Oh man!'" Donahue said.
I don't know which part of that quote from the NYT article disturbs me more.
Easy.
One of the computers is dedicated to re-routing the electric bills to his next door neighbor.

OK, that was way off topic. My apologies.
Let me spell it out for you, D-R-M.

Why not call it Skynet and just accept the inevitable?
The pics aren't very good but it does look like there's at least one USB port on the front. This thing has got to have at least one USB port, right?
You could use an external DVD/CD/HD, problem solved.
Q: What do you call a guitar player without a girl friend? ;-)
A: Homeless.
And here I thought rock guitarists were usually the whiny divas.
If you like speculative fiction, Bill Gates wrote a book about an alternative universe where the Internet never happened.
Put portable Firefox on a USB stick. It can be used anywhere and the user is always in control of the bookmarks, passwords, etc.
I installeed portable Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice on a USB stick and use it whenever I'm travelling. I can take my working environment anywhere.
The downside is that if I lose the USB stick in my travels I'm screwed.
Logic dictates that I verify the link for myself and confirm your results. After all, why should I believe an anonymous stranger on the Internet?
However I'll take it on faith that you are correct and not click on the link.

It's a conspiracy theory. Don't start mucking up things with "facts".
Who stands to gain if this lawsuit is successful? HINT: Not you.

Someone had to do it

Would you kindly post a torrent of your copy of Vista.
It appears you have the one copy that actually works as advertised and is not affected by the problems the rest of us are having.
Try Google. The first hit I got was:
"United States' Response to Microsoft's Sur-reply : U.S. v. Microsoft"
If you were using Blacks "surrejoinder" should be in there, same thing.
ps IANAL nor do I play one on TV.
