Obviously you have no experience with the law... The policeman's testimony does not meet the burden of proof to convict you. The burden of proof in a criminal case is "proof beyond any reasonable doubt" that you did it. No one's testimony provides that - in fact eye-witnesses are generally the least reliable form of evidence in a courtroom. Cold, hard evidence like fingerprints, DNA, whatever, are required. And if you're innocent, you have nothing to worry about (unless you're Sam Shepherd...)

Okay, I've seen this argument several times so far in this discussion, and it's ridiculous. Do you think MS execs are sitting around watching XBox sales going "OH SH*T - people are buying the XBox and WE'RE LOSING MONEY. How can we get less people to buy the XBox so we lose less money??????"

    Whatever.

You won't see his version of Eyes Wide Shut because he won't edit it. Before they changed their site they had a list of movies they would never edit, that was one of them. If a movie cannot be edited without removing the essence of the movie they won't do it.

  7. Backup and Recovery on What is Holding SAP-DB Back? · · Score: 4, Informative

Does SAP have anything close to Oracle's RMAN? If not, it's not on par with Oracle. It seems like most 'free' databases put backup and recovery on the back-burner and only provide some sort of database dump for backups - which is probably one of the reasons they're not more accepted in high-level professional circles.

::Sigh:: yet another person who thinks that because someone says Perl's fundamental purpose is quick scripts, they're saying it can't be used for other purposes.

You are correct that it can be used for real, big, major, mission-critical applications, but that's not what it's original intent was. Quote from the O'Reilly book:

In a nutshell, Perl is designed to make the easy jobs easy, without making the hard jobs impossible.

Everyone here understands that Perl can and is used for large applications, but that still wasn't its original intent. New features have made it appropriate for that but perl has always kept its vision of "keeping the easy things easy".

Well, actually, yes, most do. If you look at an ad in a magazine (or newspaper) that's not obviously an ad, it'll usually say "Advertisement" above it (added by the publisher). I highly doubt it's required by law though - probably just there to protect the magazine so you're not misled into thinking its actual content.
