I'm sure I will be flamed for this but here goes...
With how easy this actually would be do plan and carry out, do you really think that nobody hasn't already thought of it? National defense/intelligence is kind of a matter where you never really hear about the big successes, just the proclaim over failures. I have no numbers to really prove anything, but I am absolutely certain that there have been significant wins on the part of the intelligence community that have already foiled such plans many times already. There are a lot of good people working to make sure that these things dont happen, and the people never really hear about them. We just hear about bad apples and mismanaged government work, which, unfortunately there is a lot of as well.
Note: I am NOT trying to defend DHS/NSA/CIA for everything they do. I think there are many many things that have happened in the past few years which are completely unnecessary, unconstitutional, unamerican, and ineffective. That comes from when the politicians get their fingers in the pie and don't let those qualified and capable to do the job actually do it.
I take the LACK of such events to be a large indicator that despite the problems there are with intelligence/security, there have been many unreported success stories.
For the prototype models, I can see why it would be so expensive. However now that the tech has progressed and can be duplicated in a $500 kit there is no reason for the price to stay that high for new models.
Unfortunately, this creates a problem for Windows XP users. The good news is, Western Digital has already solved the problem
Is there a particular reason that we should care that a new technology isn't backwards compatible with an obsolete technology? Especially in light that it actually is compatible?
The most common argument I've heard is about how these herbal remedies have been used for years/centuries and have been "proven" more effective than modern medicine. Pointing out that modern medicine is largely based on examining these ancient herbal remedies to isolate exactly what/if/why they are effective and then recreating it deflates that pretty nicely. In a similar vein, there is little need to legalize medicinal marijuana joints when we can create synthetic THC that is identical to natural sources.
Actually, I found the video to be much better than Crysis. Foliage is, IMO, one of the weakpoints of any outdoor game and even though Crysis did a fair job, the video had much more planty-plants.
PS I didnt play Crysis until long after the release date, and did so on maxxed settings.
Put down the kool-aid. You really think the government is going to loose money because they gave a discount to one group? They just make it back by increasing taxes for another, namely, We The People.
So change the file permissions on the folder to allow non admin read/write. Tell it not to inherit from the parent, set to allow all users, and then replace child permissions.
In a similar vein, I participated in a few math-bowl competitions in high school. Even though I was excellent at math, I sucked in the completion. When you start into anything beyond arithmetic then there is really little point in mental math. Sure I could figure out 7*13 but when you do math with more letters than numbers, there isnt much reason to do it by hand anymore.
Linux will not magically create a 100MB partition that you cannot erase and is essential to the operating system, unlike Windows 7 that will refuse to boot after removing the 100MB magic partition using Knoppix and cannot repair even with the original installation disks
Oh noes! My operating system created a 100mb system partition on my 1tb drive! I needed that space so I deleted it and now it doesnt work! Microsoft sucks!
but if you have to ask this question on/. you'd better not start
I think that could be said for most AskSlashdot questions. Seriously, there are questions that if you really need ask then you arent prepared for the answer.
If you are using columns, then you are already far beyond what post people use Word for. Most people I know would just use spaces to line everything up.
And most of the time what they use it for could be done with wordpad just as easily. Its pathetic how almost nobody actually uses most of the functions in Word, yet they have to buy it.
The best part of it all was I got a job on campus as a math tutor. So here I was when i was 17ish teaching Calculus to a bunch of idiots 10 years my senior. It was funny when the girls asked me out only to find out I was way younger than they, that happened frequently.
The entire state has a program called Running Start where you can take a test your junior year and if you pass the school district pays your tuition for the local community college. I went to the college full time, never took another class from the HS, and had my college graduation for my AA the day before the HS graduation. Only thing public schools ever did for me besides waste my time.
It wasnt really that big of a bug. It required sending multiple emails with bullets/ordered lists in one session of Outlook. If you dont use bullets/lists then youre safe. If you shut down Outlook occasionally, youre safe. If you rebooted your computer when you went home from work, youre safe. I'd imagine that there were very few people actually effected by this. I've been using the Beta for a while myself and have never heard about it.
I dont have any stories to share about V-Day, but recently I was looking at Western Digital website to download a diagnostic utility for my hard drive. I noticed on the bottom of the page a V-Day ad saying how romantic an external hard drive would be for your girlfriend. There has to be a pun in there somewhere, but I can't find it...

That actually isnt really that bad of an idea. Unlike healthcare, defense actually IS in the constitution so it has a basis.

Experience speaking?

Interesting...if somewhat disturbing at the same time.
Then it is no longer a memo...
I'd have to argue that if you can't write a memo in under 2 pages you shouldnt be in a university.

This is slashdot. Nerd pron usually includes wiring.

And if that didn't so it, then last year sure did.
