Other than a few posters in a few public restrooms, I don't know anyone that took any additional precautions during the swine flu scare. It was something that a small % of the population panicked about and bought masks, and everyone else went along just washing their hands like they usually do.
I kind of meant that the perp has nothing to lose by winning. For the good guys, even if they win then they often lose. More than one good guy has been strung up by armchair quarterbacks who later found his/her actions to save his/her life inappropriate.
That indicates to me that the opponent is just slower by nature. It doesn't mention if they had the later test groups try both sides, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didnt. For example, if I was in that test with my parents, I could be half asleep and turned the other direction when they started and I would still probably beat them.
If there is any disadvantage on the side of the officers that delays their shot, it is the legal mumbo jumbo that they have to deal with if they actually do shoot. The suspect has nothing to loose so he will take the shot as soon as possible, but the officer is trained to wait to the last moment. Different circumstances than a western style showdown.
The Air Force and other government agencies are interested in using CubeSats that can move between different orbits in space, and more specifically, that have the propulsion required to reenter Earth’s atmosphere and destroy themselves at the end of their mission (thereby keeping them from becoming “space junk”).
That is the original article, but it looks like there has been a happy ending since I read it last. Looks like he has been released. I'm a bit surprised, but gratified. There was a lot of publicity at the time and it looks like it had an effect. I read crime reports from all over and occasionally see similar stuff from across the pond. I dont have any others off the top of my head though.
It actually has a pretty good chance of deflecting off the skull if the angle isnt just right as well. However, a direct shot in the eye is rather difficult and highly unlikely. You have to be a very very good shot or very very lucky to kill someone with a single 22 round.
You realize that LR (Long Rifle) is the most common designation of for.22 and in fact the assumption is that unless specifically mentioned otherwise (like Magnum, not very common) it is LR?
Given the choice between being stabbed and shot with a.22 I would take the.22 anyday.
The trick to not getting shot with your own gun is to just freaking shoot them when you can instead of standing there warning them as they inch close enough to grab it like they do in the movies.
Its a 22. If you really need to defend yourself you are actually probably better off using a sharpened pencil. They both are only lethal in a very small portion of your body, and you are more likely to hit with a pencil.
They are busy legislating away all forms of self defense.I've seen several news reports of guys getting arrested because, oh noez! they fought back against their attacker. Many of them used a knife or other household item to save their own or a family members life, only to be incarcerated later. There was even one report of a military vet who found a shotgun in a park or something. He turn it in to the cops and was arrested for illegal possession. Now keep in mind that the police station he took it to had passed out flyers a short while before telling citizens it was their duty to bring any illegal weapons they find to the police.
If they other person was on the phone and you weren't then that is a huge indicator of who is at fault. Unless you park in the middle of the intersection an wait for someone on the phone to hit you, I think it is pretty slam dunk that it would land in your favor.
Even though I disagree with the OP, this is a weak argument. IR and a quasi-radar array would easily surpass even human vision in object checking. Oblivious to fog, light conditions, and constantly focused on the road in front. Even small objects could easily be detected, like a nail.
Its not politically feasible to actually punish the offenders anymore, especially juveniles. Slap on the wrist, out on parole, bam! You have another repeat offender.
Last numbers from the FBI I saw showed that some 60% of offense are by repeat offenders.
It has nothing to do with intervening. If you are afraid for your own safety then there isnt anything to make you go rambo. What it is saying is that you have an obligation to pick up your phone and call someone about it. Is that really too hard?
No, its very easy to be preachy when the data remains inconclusive. You just change the data.
See Al Gore.

It could, but the first scenario is much more likely.
If 10 grand would cover a vacation to some remote island in the pacific?
Very well said for an AC
I used loose in place of lose...
/hangshead
I am ashamed now.

Bohr never drew first but won every time

I'm surprised that it took this long for someone to bring this up. It was one of my first thoughts.

That actually has the sounds of a plausible plan. That means you can forget about it.
Sorry. I think my signal cut out. Could you repeat that?
