As sad as it may be, many police barely pass the muster for shooting qualification. I'm very active in self-defense and shooting communities (online and off) and talk to cops often. There is a distinct divide between those that are in it to actually do the work and those that just like the badge. Those that are in it because they love it are usually those I talk to, and are great shots. The others use their gun for intimidation and barely visit the range enough to pass. Frankly, the idea that only cops should have guns because they are trained is bull. Most citizens who have been raised around guns are going to be a better shot and better handling of firearms than these types.
As for how this relates to why some areas are moving away from 9mm, its because they can't trust their cops to get a clean shot. If you can't get a clean shot, then 9 might not be enough. Same for 45, but its more likely to be.
About good JHP, there really is a difference between brands. "Good JHP" is very expensive, and many don't use it. They go for the cheap stuff because they think JHP is JHP.
Furthermore, law enforcement have a lot of red tape to go through if they actually kill a suspect. They have a lot of disadvantages that civilians dont have. They try to avoid lethal force as a"last resort" and by the time they react it might be already be past that point. For example, how far away do you think a knife wielding attacker needs to be before firing? 5ft? 10ft? Come on, its only a knife. Actually, its 21ft. Its called the Tueller distance. That is the distance that and average person with a knife can run and hit you before the average person can remove a pistol from a holster (OWB) and fire. Cops usually are already within that distance when working with someone. Really when bringing a knife to a gun fight, the knife wins under 21 feet.
In summary, comparing cops usage to civilian self-defense isnt really possible. There are different scenarios and limitations that the other side doesn't have and what works for one might not for the other.
I'm not even sure I support those. I really enjoy going out to bars without smoking. It was absolutely disgusting previously. Had take a shower and wash my hair twice when I got home. It also irritated the hell out of my eyes and nose too.
Despite that, the Libertarian in me has a problem with a private business being told that it can't allow smoking on it's property. Nobody forced me to visit that bar. Nobody forced the employees to work there. If a bar wants to ban smoking on it's own then all the power to them -- I'd vote for them with my wallet -- I just don't see it as something to get Uncle Sam all worked up about though.
I'm with you on the bars issue. Private businesses like that should have the right to determine that for their own buildings. I'll vote with my dollar too and avoid them, and then other people can vote with their dollar and go to them and everyone is happy. Even the split sections they used to have were fine. In large public areas like schools/hospitals/airports and even large businesses like the mall and walmart etc, I support a ban. Those have much fewer options of where to go so its not so simple to say you can stay away if you dont like the smoking in it.
How about this. Everyone gets 3 foot bubble around them while outside with the right to declare that bubble to be either a smoking or nonsmoking area.
So walking down the street, if we pass our bubbles are going to overlap. Mine is based partly on valid health concerns, yours is based on habit. On that alone mine should trump yours, but thankfully thats not all. I have other people with me whos bubbles are also non-smoking bubbles, and when we pass you arent just overlapping mine, you are over lapping theirs too. One smoking bubble vs 3 nonsmoking bubbles. End result, no smoking on the sidewalk.
You have the right to smoke, sure, but WE have the right not to have to smell you.
Since residue is just smoke that is no longer floating around, and since it accumulates rather than disperses, residue would actually be MORE hazardous than smoke. Moving it around will aerosolize it again and it can probably be absorbed through the skin too.

I know shotguns are the classic home defense, but I don't really lean that way. Too messy;P Even at home I'm more likely to stick with a handgun with DRT ammo. (http://drtammo.com/) to avoid over-penetration.
If that's your metric then the.22LR is the best self-defense round.
Its not the only metric, but it is a big one. I'd rather have my 9 that I get to put a couple hundred rounds in a month than a 45 that i can fire about half as much. Even a 22 can be deadly if placed well by someone with enough skill/luck. Accuracy and capacity both go down with increasing caliber so there has to be a balance though. I'm much more comfortable with 10+1 of 9mm than I would be with 6+1 of.45 (I know you can get more than that, but mine is a subcompact)
With good JHP ammo, 9 is plenty on an unarmored target.
I was wondering the same thing. Every online retailer does the same thing, they charge sales tax in states where they have a presence and not in those they don't. How is Amazon any different?
It's amazing how stupid some people are on the internet. It is almost as if all literary skills go out the window and the don't freaking READ WHAT THE SCREEN SAYS!
A while ago an extended relative asked what I wanted for Christmas (we do a rotation where everyone gets a couple random names and they buy for those names only rather than something for every single person, that way everyone gets some stuff but you dont have to spend a lot on people you don't even know/care about). Anyway, rather than listing a bunch of stuff, I told them just to look me up on Amazon where I have a couple public wishlists running. Tell them to just search for me on the Amazon wishlists, no problem right? Ive tested it and my name brings it straight to me. I was dead wrong, they just tried to use the product search and didn't find me (my biography isnt listed yet I guess, go figure) even though I told them explicitly to go to with WISHLIST page which is linked right at the top of the screen. I cried a little for humanity.
Thats not entirely true. If you dont have a credit score (I dont, never owned a credit card in my life) then some of the big boys wont work with you, but there are plenty that will and give the same (or lower) rate as you would with the big boys. They just spend time looking at you and your income rather than a 3 digit number that doesnt really say anything.
By law anytime one of the carriers changes a policy that effects you in anyway, you have 30 days to contact them and refuse the new policy and cancel any contract you have with them at no charge. They are posted quite regularly at slickdeals.net and I assume other places. Just wait for something to come along (or do it now) and they are legally obligated to let you leave with no penalty.
As I recall, Beck also asked repeatedly for Jones to expressly deny the charges, which he never did.
Why the hell should he? He should have told Beck to go to hell, if he responded at all.
I don't want anyone who used to be a communist anywhere near my government.
I don't really care what you want. Fortunately, most people don't subscribe to your paranoia.
Its paranoia to pay attention to your government? Unfortunately, most people are as blind as yourself.
Beck would have been on solid ground if he said Jones used to be a communist. Jones has been up front about that.
But Beck has repeatedly said Jones is a communist. Present tense. Although we could not find a comment in which Jones explicitly said why he is no longer one, we found ample evidence that he now believes capitalism is the best force for the social change he is seeking. So there's truth to Beck's claim in that Jones was a communist, but it's apparent he isn't any longer, as Beck suggests. So we find the claim Barely True.
So a wolf put on sheeps clothing. As I recall, Beck also asked repeatedly for Jones to expressly deny the charges, which he never did. Furthermore, I don't care how much you claim to change. I don't want anyone who used to be a communist anywhere near my government.
Aint it great how playing recorded video of people talking about the wonders of socialism can be construed as hate mongering? All he is doing is showing what these people actually have said. Its not his fault Anita Dunn almost worships Mayo.
LOL! its the blue states that are so successful, eh? I wish I could still find that citation, but over last years elections I saw a map broken down not by state, but by precinct. The vast majority of the country was red, with only a few of the major cities in blue. It also had a break down of how much government welfare went to red vs blue states, how much government housing there was, and the average income. Red states were better in every regard.
Even without the citation, take a look at how great the democrats have done in areas like detroit (falling apart more every day) or seattle (crime skyrocketing), southern california (rampant unemployment), new york (do i even need to say anything here). With out fail, blue leadership has been killing all our major cities.
Well, a big part of that is on if it is true or not. True accusations and knowingly false slander can't be compared.
As for the 1st Amendment, who is it that has been trying to muscle Fox out of the networks, claiming they "aren't really a news organization"? Your beloved leader doesn't seem too fond of any of the Constitution, much less the first.
The hardest part of exercise for me is the mental part. Physically I can go for a long time, even though I'm not in very good shape. If it is an actual job to do, like lawn work, moving boxes, etc etc then I can keep it up until it is done. Start jogging or lifting weights and my brain gets exhausted way before the body. it is just so.... boring. I dont see how people can do that just for the fun of it.

I'm with you man, but I was trying to compromise.
BTW I love it when the first mod I get is overrated.

I know it was fixed, my point is that
A) Everyone has driver bugs
B)In my experience ATI has better driver support than nVidia
If you feel you're going to need a .50 cal, then grow up
there, fixed it for you. 9mm is my caliber of choice. Where it hits is more important than how big it is, and with 9mm you get a LOT more practice.
Hmmm, wasnt it nvidia that was responsible for most of the vista driver debacle?
That depends on where you live.

I paid 15 bucks for my phone. A dollar to activate it and put on $10 of minutes, then another $10 for more credit that expires in 120 days.
Total cost, 26 bucks and I have service for 4 months. Then it will be another 10 bucks for another 4 months. Best Phone Ever.

Yes, but it depends on if it is sub-spec'ed or not.

Not really. It just means that he realized the private sector is the only one with the money to lobby DC to get the policies they want established.
