I wonder how this effort compares to the work being done by Enthought Python. Hopefully it is more open and freely available to all, or better yet, incorporated into the mainline python distro.
Does this mean those commercials on TV for prescription drugs will now take up an entire commercial break just reading the side effects? With some of the potential side effects being far worse than the condition that the drug intends to treat, it's going to be pretty intimidating for anyone who might have been interested in trying the newest drugs. It may help if the risk were quantified, but with frivolous lawsuits running rampant these days, the drug company legal team probably can't let them skip over the rarer ones for fear of getting sued.
Our military has a hard enough time managing to fight regular wars. If anyone thinks they are going to be ready for a cyberwar, they are kidding themselves.
As a resident of Hawaii this proposal causes me great concern. The majority of the people here buy electronics items online that come by air shipping. The price is generally 10-20% cheaper online due to the high cost of living out here. It sounds like a real boon to the local merchants but it sucks for the consumer looking for the best prices. I know we're small but I hope they think of us before they enact this ban.
After having just gone through a 2 day power outage after a strong wind storm I can say that it sucked not having any ability to contact anyone on my cell phone.

Maybe they just need help with logging in. http://www.dilbert.com/strips/comic/2007-11-16/
