there is ZERO excuse to do any live illegal hacking. absolutely everything in the wild can be hacked on in the basement legally or grey hat legal. Want to hack on Cisco gear? buy old stuff and hack away or get some torrent to some of the education and simulation stuff the CCNE's use to prep on. Get your hands on some old routers and Wic cards and actually learn hands on how a T1 works (you can easily make a t1 simulator to go between the two routers.)
I would kill to have what the kids have access today when I was 15. standing with a Tandy 100 and phone cups in the bad part of town hacking into a university connection to gain net access sounds cool, in reality it sucked really bad. A readhead ghost white boy stands out in harlem at 3am, and you get accosted by all the druggies.
Actually my safety kit in my hiking bag is centered around the AA battery. my GPS,GMRS radio, the flashlights, etc all MUST use the AA battery. I carry 4 disposables and 4 rechargeable NICAD's in there.
Why NiCAD? because they can sit for 30 years in a discharged state and not degrade. the solar charger I have in the pack will charge those 4 in about 3 hours in full sun.
Old tech wins when it comes to emergency and longevity. I have a pair of Nicad AA rechargeables that I found in the basement that are from 1998. they still take a charge well and hold enough of a charge to run the GPS a whole day. not one modern battery can do that.

I bought a new set this past week and they last massively longer than the ones that are only 2 years old and have less than 20 cycles on them. The problem is that 99% of all people are ignorant to the proper care of a Li-Ion battery. leaving it dead = destruction. keeping it charged = longer life. I can drain completely a brand new battery and destroy it quickly by leaving it discharged for a month.
I want 2X capacity in the same size. I want what I had with my RAZR phone back in 1999, charge it once a week. unlike the iphone that must be charged daily. I want AA batteries that will last a year in Xbox360 controllers between chargings.
The problem is that much electrical potential will NOT get rid of the "risk". if you short a high capacity battery no matter what it is made of, it will get really hot. they are not going to eliminate the burning battery syndrome. Better QC does that.

Playing Halo:Reach with full surround on gives you audio clues in the surround channels so you can hear behind you. So now I have 4 more HDMI inputs.
You cant get a date because you are too "picky" of what you call acceptable. I know a lot of fat geeks that will "only date a hottie".. Yet they also refuse to get any social skills or even bathe weekly let alone the normal bathing cycle. oh and washed clothes, teeth brushing, etc.....
Guess what, you are not gonna get a hottie. So either start looking at realistic pool of women to target or give up. Honestly, 99% of the time it's not just "looks" that is the repulsion. it's personality, interaction and hygene that have 75% of the repulsion factor. And a lot of guys are simply completely idiotic in their expectations.
