Your understanding is horribly off base.

Their streaming is nothing different than the DVD rental biz. They are making money. Dont fool yourself.

Hulu unfortunately allowed themselves to get sucked into the sociopath world of TV networks. Tv networks are notorious for being psychotic and plain old nutcases about the "value" of their content. $3.00 for 22 minutes of Southpark is $2.75 too much Unless it's in HD without ANY commercials and I get to keep a digital copy forever, then it's worth $1.50

They dont understand that. They CANT understand that. They WONT understand that. They want $3.00 for that 22 minutes plus FORCED ad's all over in it at 320X240 and badly compressed.

They are on drugs, and I simply torrent what I want and get it in the quality I want for free. I'll gladly pay for a single streaming price of $0.25 for a 1/2 hour show without commercials at all. Less if the quality is not DVD quality. More if I want to keep it and in HD.

And now I read this nonsense about Michigan and other states giving exclusive monopolies to Comcast and other megacorps. Unbelievable.

This has went on for decades. When CableTV started in the 70's it was done to make community TV setups illegal.

WE had a Community TV when I grew up. the neighborhood had a single 200 foot tower with a gob of antennas and the whole neighborhood was wired with coax. it worked great. we paid $50.00 a year for it and got over 13 channels clear as day.

TCI cable came into town and after they got set up they signed a franchise contract with the city. The city then deemed our community TV system a business and forced it to either be torn down or pay $50,000 a year to the city for a franchise fee.

Thus making it illegal by making the cost excessive.

  10. Re:Detroit is broke on Statewide Franchise Illegal? Detroit Sues Comcast · · Score: 1

It's just like every other franchise contract.

the contract is in effect until there is competition, until then the Monopoly shall follow the terms of the contract.

Comcast did this to protect themselves by making the cost of entry for competition to detroit (and other communities) very expensive. In some places like my home town it's actually "illegal" for me to start my own cable company as it is in the franchise contract.

Learn about Franchise contracts, and fight against them.

It's called "public performance" and yes plain old FM radio counts. Please READ the ASCAP/BMI rules carefully, asthey are insanely restricted and ridiculously one sided. They also start at $1000.00 per infraction and ALWAYS get multiple infractions. Even an extortion "fine" of $1000 can put a small business out of business.

PLUS their rules change if you sell alcohol of any kind, they can even demand a percentage of all your profits.

ASCAP fines you if the radio can be heard outside the employee area, and they typically can make crap up just like how the BSA does during audits because all of their "infractions" are relative and based on what the investigator thinks or wants. They do not use any scientific methids.

I have seen ASCAP extortion at work, many new businesses get an ASCAP extortion letter before they open.

It's all about profit, doing it right is not even on the list. It's on the "we should do this" list.

The ONLY way to get a real electric car that is designed right is to either pass laws forcing the engineering change, or to finance the change.
