Actually my thoughts ate a little more complicated than that.
To get rid of food stamps would actually cost more most under my plan in the short term.
The first step is to hire more social workers to actually visit food stamp houses. They would buy the food for the children and possibly even cook for them. The parents would not be allowed to eat unless they actually needed the food (truly disabled, people who are honestly trying to better themselves, other edge cases) the parents would then be forced to find work, or attend some sort of educational training. 10 to 20 years of this and the food atamp program would be greatly reduced in a perfect world.
You're argument doesn't hold water. If the philanthropist witholds the money, he has to pay taxes. If he pays taxes, then some rich politician gets richer. If he funds meals on wheels, the trickle down effect is more noticeable.
People get hired by the charity. They pay taxes out of that income. I would argue that this actually helps more in the long run, then if the rich guy had paid taxes to begin with.
Its not really though. They will tax the employees. This is how the city makes additional tax revenue. That's what it really all about. Plus all the residual services that new job bring.
People only bring up the issue at hand, they aren't considering what is really happening.
It's much the same with the whole X amount of billionaires don't pay any taxes on their income. The news media doesn't report that's because they give 90% of the money to charitable causes, or what not. It's the residual effects of their money that makes the biggest difference, not the fact that they don't pay X amount of taxes.
If you're getting all that for ~$85 a month, you're getting a hell of a deal. Just basic cable where I live would run me ~$60+. Of course I live in rural Arkansas and my only choice is Suddenlink for Cable TV. Or satelite, but last time I had satellite, it was ~$60+ without any movie channels or DVR.
What we're forgetting is that this was a grant from the federal govt. They had to spend however much they got, or they coudln't get another grant again.
I used to live on Air Force Base, and they would repave the roads every year to make sure every dime was spent. Then they took out all the roads, and tore down the houses to build a park. I'm sure they eventually tore out the park, and rebuilt the houses, and continue to repave the roads every year.
Or maybe we went to war, because some of our politicians have actually read history, and don't want a repeat of WWII. You know the one where Hitler damn near conquered all of Europe, and was on his way to conquering Asia, until the Japanese did something stupid and pissed off the American people?
Saddam was an insane sadistic bastard.
It's funny how no one ever complains about the first war against Iraq? You know the one where the UN told us to go and bomb the fuck out of him, for invading Kuwait and killing untolds thousands of people?
But you're right, the Democrats blame everything on Bush, so it must be his fault.
There used to be companies that did that in the '90s. My wife's grandpa signed up for it. Got a really good machine for what he was paying per month, plus internet.
The company went out of business, he got to keep the computer.
It's a high risk/high reward business, though. Microsoft can afford it, they aren't cash strapped if half the consumers don't pay. It would be harder for a smaller company to do it though.
Hell with global warming the are will soon be underwater. So the radiation is not really a big deal. They just sped up the processs of making the land uninhabitable.
Sounds like my job, only my bosses really can't get rid of me, cause I'm the only programmer, and the only one who can work on this colassal clusterfuck of a php/mysql webapp.
In fact, I'm so good at doing nothing, that I just got a bump in the bonus pool, and I get to work from home 3 days a week. Of course, I'm not being paid even half of software engineer median pay, but then again I live in the rural south, where everything costs a hell of a lot less than almost everywhere else, so it's a pretty good trade off.
Is Germany the Texas courts of Europe? Seems like every other day, one tech item or another is being banned in Germany. Soon, the 3rd Reich will rise again, just so they can play with their tech toys. I welcome the cleansing of all lawyers from the earth.
Why exactly is this a story. Replace Apple in the headline with a * where * means any major corporation. I mean Microsoft, Google, Samsung, Sony, and all of them do it.
Because all of the stories are about how nuclear power is the evilz. We can't use nuclear, too dangerous, we can't use coal or oil cause it causes global warming.
I wish the human race would just commit harikari, so the poor old earth could just go back to normal. Here's an idea, why don't you be the first to save the planet from us. As The Bloodhound Gang so eloquently put it "Throw in the towel, no better yet take the towel and hang yourself with it".
And you missed the point.

Get rid of food stamps.
I wish people would make fun of your "religion" like they do mine.
One more "religion" to add to the list, AGW, anti-AGW, Anti-Nukes, and Obama.
The OP didn't say anything that people didn't say against Bush, hell he even said something bad about Bush.

Regardless though, those charities all have to hire somebody and that somebody will eventually pay taxes on something.

Welcome our new DreamHammer overlords with a private army of drones that were bought and paid for by the US Taxpayer.

If they can get everybody else behind it.
The only problem with this strategy is will Google and Apple follow? If not, then you're still stuck with a platform with no apps.

Our university did the same thing. I don't remember hearing any complaints about it.
Guess I should have been in pre-law and figured out that suing google was the way to get rich, rather than finishing my education.
So this is why they allowed warrantless wiretapping. So they could build a huge database of voice data.
At least it makes sense now.
Or write a script that sends thousands of photos to be printed, and never pick them up.
Wal-Mart, Walgreens both do digital printing. I'm sure just about any big box store does it.

I learned Dos and Basic from two books back in '89 when I was 10. I had no background knowledge.
My suggestion is to learn Android. Then he can have the world as an audience.
