This is the dumbest argument in the world. The people who don't have health insurance now are guaranteed coverage. This is almost he way it was, except that instead of the govt. taking the money out of your pocket, the insurance companies/hospitals did it. The people who don't have insurance still won't have insurance, but now the govt will take the money out of your pocket. And yes healthcare costs might go down a little bit, but that's because for everyone I know they have already gone up in the last two years.
I like dandelions. I pick the flowers for making wine with and you are correct. I am completely out of dandelions right now. You cam also eat the roots and the leaves.
If you use a computer, you can buy the logmein app ($30 USD). It's a bit expensive, but it keeps you from having to get a remote (which I figure is more expensive).
I don't know what crazy creationists you are talking to, but we don't all believe like that. I'm sure you'll say that I'm grasping at straws, but I'm sure the bible explains most of the dinosaurs and stuff. In particular, in the Garden of Eden, when God cursed the serpent. In my own belief system, this is when God killed all the dinosaurs. And yes evolution does exist, I just don't believe that we were once single celled organisms. I do believe that all species change over time.
I thought this article might actually be interesting. Instead, it was just shit. I suck at one interview, and got good, and did good on the next one. This one was almost as worse as the one about taking your kid to the forest for school.
The only people who are offended by the term "Indian" are rich white folks.
Hell, I'm 1/8 Cherokee, and I'm not offended by the word indian.
Of course, that might have to do with my kids college education being paid for, and apparently the Federal Govt, will also give me $25,000 for a house.
I may be biased, but I tend to disbelieve stats that don't add up to 100%. According to basic math, they are saying that 100% of tablet users use 111% of tablets?
I understand that some people own more than one tablet, but I don't think they really count as users for a study like this.
Our local school district in Arkansas is doing similar. Free lunches for anybody, kids or adults. Guess things are really bad everywhere in this economy.
Reread the comment you replied to; he actually had an excellent point.
Who is the government to tell people that they're being irresponsible? And, if they are but aren't harming anyone else, so what?
Who are these people to demand a safety net? Why do the LIE by saying they're harming no one else, while reaching into everyone else's wallet to pay for their safety net in order to subsidize their own decisions at public expense?
Oh excellent point. I assume you can back up with facts that there every obese person in the US does not have health insurance? Therefore the govt must take care of them?
According to BMI, I'm obese. Am I overweight, hell yeah, am I fat, without a doubt, but am I obese? I don't think so. I know I can stand to lose about 20 lbs, but I don't consider that to be obese. I'm big boned, which BMI doesn't take into account. According to BMI, I would have to weight about 190 lbs. I haven't weighed that since I was about 18. And I have health insurance. It's called a benefit of having a job.
Some posters have brought up a 600 lb man who had to be cut out of his house, but I bet that is such a statistical minority, that on a scale, it would be thrown out on the basis of the null hypothesis.
Or how about the govt bans all cigarrettes? Alcohol? Both cause at least as many deaths as being obese will. But why stop there? Let's ban red meat, you know if you eat too much red meat, you will get clogged arteries and die of a heart attack. Also, lets ban eggs, they have high levels of bad cholesterol (I know they also have high levels of good fats too). Hell, I heard some people were getting salmonella and other diseases from fresh produce, better ban that too. Some people fry fish and eat that, so we better ban all fish.
Where the fuck do the bans end? Nowhere. Everything consumed in excess is bad for you. Notice the excess part? We in America are consumers. Plain and simple. Does that need to change yes, should govt. mandate it, hell no.
I know you are being tongue in cheek with this remark, but I think our Founding Father's might have actually had a clear plan in mind when they said you had to own property to vote.
I think it has to do with being invested in the future of the country. Maybe we should bring something like this back. It doesn't have to be property, but maybe paying taxes? Just something to show you are actually a responsible citizen.

I work from home 3 days a week, and have children and this is my biggest problem. Probably because I have children at home. Otherwise working from home is great. But I don't get stressed, I don't wake up in the middle of the night stressed, and I sure as hell ain't on call 24 hours a day.
I do like to be able to start coding something though, and not have to stop at a quarter to five, drive an hour home and then start working on it tomorrow. It's nice to start coding something, work on it till it's done. Whether done is 8:00 pm at night, or noon. If I work late, I just put the laptop up early the next day. I try to keep as close to 40 hours as I can.
Just so you know, I do know they use a card. I also know more people who abuse the system, than people who need the system.
Hell, I've been on food stamps before. Raising minimum wage is not the answer. If you live in the US, and you can't find a job that will pay your bills, then you are a lazy fuck. I've worked two jobs (one of them at minimum wage, the other manual labor), I've worked full-time (doing manual labor, no less), and went to school full-time to make a better life for my family. Oh yeah, while I was doing all of this, my wife was also in school full-time. And we had at least 3 children the whole time (We now have 7). Now i sit on my ass 5 days a week, and enjoy the fruits of my labor.
I've busted my ass, taken advantage of the welfare programs when I could. But that's right, anybody who says get rid of foodstamps is a self-righteous, rich motherfucking asshole.Oh wait, they aren't, they are probably the average working class American who is sick and tired of propping up lazy fucking asses, who don't have to improve their lot in life, cause the govt. pays for their food, house, clothing, and everything else they fucking need. Sorry if I am one of those people.
But you go right ahead and vote for the liberals in the next election, and when the US no longer exists, don't come crying to me, cause I won't have anything to give to you.
I wonder if the money on the national food stamp program might not be better spent on public boarding schools for low-income families?
This way, you could cut the parents off foodstamps, and give them a way to go to work. Let the kids come home on the weekends and during holidays. This way the children are guaranteed to get three square meals a day, and maybe a decent chance at an education. There could be many programs to keep the kids occupied from sports, to computer literacy to programming, possibly even teach them things like tutoring skills, engineering. Probably wouldn't cost much more than we already spend.
Yeah, it would take a perfect world to make it work, and in a perfect world, nobody would be on food stamps.
I think the idea has merit (of course, I do, I made it up), but I know it could be improved upon. Just not smart enough to figure out how to make it work.

Cause you don't have to pay the program anything.

Whatever dandelions do, they are damn successful. You can't kill those bastards. They just keep coming back. They're like roaches, and mosquitoes.

What about Chicago's policy on all companies that operate there must disclose whether or not they made money from slavery?

You can't.
I'm just not offended by it.

Well, that's still a dumb idea. I'm read that and still thought it was a 1 million for $650.
I wish we had more people like you on Slashdot. A well thought argument.
And who created the Big Bang?
In fact the idea of big bang creator is 2x as silly, since it requires that the big bang was created and from nothing.
Wait, half the country is ruining it for the other half? (With an error rate of probably +/- 4%).
Maybe your half is ruining it for my half?
