In fact C++ is barely managing to hold its own any more against C# and Java.
I make desktop applications for both Windows and Mac. C# and Java are not very suitable for this. C++ is still the standard choice.
You SOLD to your own parents? I can't imagine that. Has America become so materialistic that we sell things to our own parents now?
So what? If my parents agree to buy something from me, then who are you to judge that?
Academics have little impact on the future. Powerful companies and the young charismatics shape the future. Given that, I think Google Gears plugin will become one of the great new features.
If that was so, then Javascript would have been strongly typed.
As a cross-platform desktop application developer I simply see no other option than to use C++.
