I don't think he was saying "Don't even try" he was saying "Stop thinking that it's a realistic plan to save yourself from the rather disturbing consequences of constant growth". He was also pointing out that it's not realistic to compare it to early earth migrations/settlement because the differences in difficulty are orders of magnitude.
It's a funny joke, but really what made people switch was more frequent updates and a better looking OS, now that seems to be what everyone's complaining about! I have to admit, I'm still on 10.10 and not keen to change...
Lots of data entry doesn't necessarily involve typing, warehouse jobs often involve simple ticking of boxes, scanning of barcodes etc. I imagine soon we will see the custom ruggedised devices used for these types of jobs being replaced by tablets, which will probably be cjeaper and more easily modifiable.
All we need is an infinite number of people to look through every possibility and it will be fine! I'll help by having as much sex as possible while you work on the fine program.
Maybe because society as a whole benefits from higher levels of education? The real question is why is it so stupidly expensive? The longer people stay in education the greater the number of jobs available to others.
The article seems to be based on the premise that people should only be educated to the level required to fulfill their current function in society, this is clearly ridiculous. The numbers don't make much sense either out of context "X thousand bartenders have batchelor level degrees" How many of those are working towards higher degrees and are doing it for the money to attain that? How many do something else in their spare time working towards what they would really like to be doing with their degrees?
11% people are only saying "Derp derp first" at microsoft these days, therefore for your convenience we have removed the 3rd Derp. Don't worry, there will be a handy DWORD registry hack to get it back if you need it.

A bit of a pedantic aside, but surely gardens are meant to be enclosed, see the etymology http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hortus_conclusus. And I suppose if you had to choose between living in the forest or the garden you'd probably choose the garden, after all you can still go into the forest if you have to but at least bears won't shit in your house. Or something.
But can't you envision the awesome synergies? Now when you want to change channel all you have to do is shout "XBOX, hear me!" then stand up, raise your right hand for 10 seconds, wave it around a bit, do a squat and you will have changed channel! It's going to be soooo awesome.
That would be madness, but if you were to say the same about M-theory or string theory or any number of other "hot" physics topics you may get a fair few takers!

Thankfully oil never receives government subsidies, and eventually we will be able to develop planet size one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amco-8566-Orange-Citrus-Squeezer/dp/B0002V23BQ to keep us going another 3 months.
You missed out the saxophone bit! I personally would like it much better if the internet was as awesome as a saxophone.

http://www.musicoftheprimes.com/thebook.htm I read this recently and found I had a pretty good hold of the maths for about 2 days after reading....
