    I don't think he was saying "Don't even try" he was saying "Stop thinking that it's a realistic plan to save yourself from the rather disturbing consequences of constant growth". He was also pointing out that it's not realistic to compare it to early earth migrations/settlement because the differences in difficulty are orders of magnitude.

    It's a funny joke, but really what made people switch was more frequent updates and a better looking OS, now that seems to be what everyone's complaining about! I have to admit, I'm still on 10.10 and not keen to change...

    Lots of data entry doesn't necessarily involve typing, warehouse jobs often involve simple ticking of boxes, scanning of barcodes etc. I imagine soon we will see the custom ruggedised devices used for these types of jobs being replaced by tablets, which will probably be cjeaper and more easily modifiable.

    Maybe because society as a whole benefits from higher levels of education? The real question is why is it so stupidly expensive? The longer people stay in education the greater the number of jobs available to others. The article seems to be based on the premise that people should only be educated to the level required to fulfill their current function in society, this is clearly ridiculous. The numbers don't make much sense either out of context "X thousand bartenders have batchelor level degrees" How many of those are working towards higher degrees and are doing it for the money to attain that? How many do something else in their spare time working towards what they would really like to be doing with their degrees?

    A bit of a pedantic aside, but surely gardens are meant to be enclosed, see the etymology http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hortus_conclusus. And I suppose if you had to choose between living in the forest or the garden you'd probably choose the garden, after all you can still go into the forest if you have to but at least bears won't shit in your house. Or something.
