  1. Thanks for the lecture on Debugging Indian Computer Programmers · · Score: 1

    > All the Indian programmers I have worked with have been above average (and some spectacularly so). I totally agree with this book's author that they contribute more than they take away - but H1-B visas ARE the first step to immigration.

I'm a naturalized US citizen, an immigrant. H1-B visas are not immigration visas, and corporations don't look forward to help their H1-B's become citizens.

I have no problem with immigration, but I do have problem when companies use these visas for temporary work that could be done here. H1-B's are not generating many US citizens, which if they did, they'd be great. I'm all for brain draining other countries.

    > All the Indian programmers I have worked with have been above average (and some spectacularly so).

They're human being, like most people, there are great ones and there are extremely crappy ones. I haven't found any Computer Science "gene" yet that says what nationality can come up with an algorithm best.

While I'm sure there are true defects, the amount of misinformation out there by users it's incredible. I expect companies to lie about their and the competitors products, but not consumers!!! It's pretty sad when consumers have to do free advertising for multinational corporations.

There are many other numbers being posted on the web about the battery life. 90 seems too low, even IGN had it at higher than 2 hours, and others have it from 4-6. The key seems to be the brightness setting, and setting it to 100% is not a fair comparision as it's brighter than the other portables.

Of course people in the country that is offshoring are going to complain, they're losing their livelihoods, what do you want them to do just accept until most professions can be done by slave labor?

A monopoly in any market is bad for consumers, if one company dominates a market, they have no incentive to lower prices. Economics 101.

That there's Sony in there now, it's great news for everybody, except stockholders (either Sony's or Nintendo's). Again, you think the DS wasn't launched and priced like this as a response to the PSP? c'mon.

  13. Sony has nothing to worry about on Warp Pipe Group May Bring Online Gaming to DS · · Score: 1

"The opinion has really shifted?". Opinion among who? The general public?

The only company that should be worried here is Nintendo. They came out dead last in the next gen console wars, and their prospects don't look great on the future console versions. They only market they dominate is the portable gaming one, and now the company that beat them before is joining in.

Sony should do well, but there's nothing from the DS that should really worry the PSP team. Just from the get go, people who already do portable gaming should buy these DS units. New people, that don't do portable gaming, will very likely go get a PSP because of the Playstation brand. When we see what the game libraries look like for both systems, we'll know who's going to win. As of now, I can see A LOT of games for the PSP, where's the lineup for the DS?

I find it interesting that a lot of gameboy fans on the internet are wishing for the PSP to fail. I'll never understand this mentality. A monopoly in any market is NEVER good, you can bet that the DS owes it's low price to the arrival of the PSP, and right there if you are a DS fan you should be happy for the new competition.
