What about linux.3dfx.com? Have you even visited there?

Source for Glide is available on the Glide source page.
This is the source code to everything listed above. Do you want to hack Glide to make it faster, or add more features? Do you want to port Glide to Alpha or Sparc Linux, or to BSD? Do you want to know how it all works? Then download the source and hack away. And if you're serious about contributing changes and improvements to Glide visit the Developer Page for more information about the CVS tree and mailing list.

If you expect people to do all the hard work for you the way you want it, expect to pay for it. Thats Microsoft Windows. If you expect free beer, then expect to wait for it or contribute a little yourself.

Just in case you don't follow..
MSFT = Drug Lord (doing the Wrong Thing)
At least the schoolteacher is doing a good thing. Maybe you love your local drug lord for helping you and your family get out of poverty by employing you to harvest coca leaves, but when he or one of his leiutenants _suspect_ you of talking to DEA agents, a gang of thugs beat you to death with clubs, or if you are lucky puts a bullet in your head. Microsoft scares the shit out of me personally, because they can erase _any_ company they want, and with that much money, they have your government in thier pocket, which means they can erase you too.

I totally agree. I build custom systems, and when customers ask me what OS they should use to play the latest games with as little OS overhead as possible, thus maximizing the gameplay, they usually ask about Windows 2000. You see, the latest must be the greatest and fastest right? Wrong. I recommend Win95 OSR2. It boots faster, menus respond faster, and there is no IE shit slowing it down. The only problem is that Microsoft has virtually stopped supporting it. Getting system updates (no not IE) for Windows 95 is impossible. I know usbsupp.exe adds usb support to the osr2 kernel, yet I couldn'tfind it on MS website. Good thing I have it archived on CD. I sometimes wished MS would put out a grand-daddy service pack for all versions of windows 95 thatupdatescritical systems components, but then the thought of them putting IE5 in the service pack changes my mind real fast (think NT4 service packs).

Now look at linux.3dfx.com, they came around and the project is unbeleivable: open source, open glide, open register specs.

Nvidia is doing _exactly_ what 3Dfx did at first, I think they will come around, especially since they have now publicly (as public as /. can get) had the open source community (consumers $$) frown on them. Hang onto your card, or sell it to a Windows user and get a 3dfx or g400, thats your choice. Even if you have to endure a few binary releases like the voodoo3 did, they will come around.

The user will never admit they screwed it up either. For Linux to succeed, Linus must take the source code back under his own copyright, and only make it available to certified Linux professionals, who can be trusted not to screw things up. To make sure they are serious about Linux, a nominal fee should be charged for the source code license (say about $1000).

Linux is a copyright owned by Linus Torvalds.

Linus Torvalds is not the sole "owner" of the source code.

Linus cannot "take back" the open source code of Linux, as I agreed to the conditions of the GPL, and posess quite a few CD's with "Linux" on it, those copies are mine and I can redistribute them under the terms of the GPL as I please.
