Answer... We'll be looking to enhance the service if we get some interest from consumers

Real Answer... We've hurriedly acquired some third party that provides a service that we kind of want and we're keeping our fingers crossed that it's profitable and works.

Answer... At the moment we don't have the functionality in-house to provide a mechanism for transferring between mobile phones and PC

Real Answer... We've blindly bought this company on a me-too whim - I have no idea what they do, and we're kind of regretting it that customers haven't thrown a ticker tape party for us, people do that for Apple when they release something cool.. WHHHHHHYYYY can't they do that for us :-(

Answer... I didn't realise phones were churning that quickly in the marketplace these days

Real Answer... I'm used to working in a big corporation where my incompetence and lack of on-the-trigger knowledge is drowned out by the number of people who work there. It means I have no idea about the product, where it'll go, how it will perform or how it works. I've just been told by my director to "Go do something like Apple or Amazon and we'll sort it all out later" ...

There.. fixed it for you Mr Griffiths

There's obviously a lot of skepticism on this site.. however a few years ago I was having a bbq and, before you ask no one had started drinking or smoking anything, but a couple of us saw these silver globes traveling EXTREMELY fast around the clear sky, they (and there was about 8 of them) sped over the horizon and then shot upwards twirling around each other. DEFINITELY not a bird, plane.. photos are: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3251/2959668832_e5abe840d1_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3208/2959668228_778ac7d3d9_o.jpg After seeing these, I'm convinced we're not alone..

  6. I do this all the time... on 42% of Web Users Sneak Onto Others' Online Accounts · · Score: 0

I do this several times a day - I have nice spammers / scammers that join my community site and they stupidly use the same password as their webmail.

I very nicely go in, leave one of my standard vacation messages telling they've been the victim of a scam, change the password recovery information and password. They I usually report them to their ISP, with Yahoo and Hotmail it normally goes unanswered, so at least I know if I've protected 1 person from getting scammed, it's worth my time - it's amazing that people, despite all the publicity are STILL scammed, some would argue they deserve it, but now I have a young daughter, naivety is sometimes a nice thing!

Oh and for those that think it's naughty for me to login via their account details - it's in my terms of membership - if you're a scammer/spammer, then you permit me to login and do the stuff I do...

  7. They're idiots.. on How To Deal With Internet Bullies? · · Score: 0

I recently had a client who wanted to use my customizable social networking engine - as it's free to clients who use it, any custom work that takes more than roughly 10-15 minutes, or isn't benefitting other members or clients, is charged.

However, we've just had one guy that logged many calls, was sharp and arrogant, wanted customized work done free of charge, baulked when it took a few days for me to liaise with his web designer (after some confusion about what he actually wanted us to do!), complained after anything was done and obviously had a chip on his shoulder.

So today, he 'threatened' to close his account, so I did it for him, told him that we were done - and left it at that...

You should do the same, it's YOUR community, YOUR members, not his - if you don't like a member tell him to go somewhere else. Ban him (and his IP) and then put your valued efforts into more deserving and respectful members and forget the minority that ruin it for everyone else.

  8. Setting an example... on Facebook Sues German Company, Claims Ripoff · · Score: 0

I think the bods down at Facebook are intelligent - they know that they're case is without merit - but just like all big corporations with big pockets, they're trying to scare the little guys out of the pond by creating as much waves as possible. Not only to make their target wonder about how much it will cost to defend the case and fold before that, but also to send a message to others who will try and do the same.

I'm not going to make any bones about my site http://friendsite.com/ I used sites like Facebook, Myspace, Bebo and others as inspiration. You only have to look at MySpace and they've now implemented 'feeds' and introducing FB type functionality, you take an idea from someone else and develop it yourself (I did for FriendSite.com I loved Facebooks feed and groups, but hated that they didn't give people their own URL, I loved MySpaces customization, but hated their look and feel, so I developed something that's inbetween the two AND wih the ability to turn off peoples customizations).

There's obviously a difference though between doing a wget and copying a sites entire structure and changing some colours and images (like it looks as though studiVZ has done), and using it as an inspiration, I have to side on the side of Facebook it does look like a blatant rip-off.

So I wonder if the Domain Registry of Canada gets their just dessert as well? They sent out a request, looking like an invoice, to my sister who runs a site, she just paid up as she assumed (wrongly and naively of course!), that it was from her current registrar. As a holder of 40-50 domains, I'm inundated from the Domain Registry of Canada (oh such an official sound title as well eh!), I think I'll before forwarding their details on to the FTC as well.

Whilst you can argue that someone should be more careful, thats like arguing that someone who leaves the car in a car park and has it broken into should be more careful - at the end of the day, exactly WHO is in the wrong here, the person who's naive, or the person who commits the crime?
