Think of the day you could spend in the office doing nothing. "Waiting for Vista to finishing installing on my laptop, Boss"

I thought that as well, but figure most people will remove the drives first, paying for replacement drives and cost of shipping would probably cost more in the long run. There's other creative ways as listed above. Especially if the laptops have serial ports, I still get people asking me for laptops with serial ports on them, not always easy to find.

How about looking at it from another prospective, let's say you're an IT mgr and laptops with important info get stolen, information can be worth millions. Software like CompuTrace's Lojack for computers, the standard software just traces the product down, and alerts the authorities, the professional version can enable the IT mgr to call in to have the hard drive erased remotely. It's not new technology, it's been around for several years, the positives seem to outweigh the negatives.

  4. Re:Good.. on eBay vs. Romania's Online Scammers · · Score: 1

Being in the IT supplies business, the biggest scam is these asshats that will e-mail suppliers "I need to place an order for 500 mem chips on a Net30 acct", they have some fake address to send it to, so if the supplier falls for it, the scammer gets the product for nothing, then sell it for an insane amount on ebay, the IT dept or consumer gets it, and had just purchased stolen product. The only time I direct clients to e-bay is when it's a hard to find part that is no longer available, even then I tell them buyer beware. Esp software, piracy, fake goods there's a lot out there.

I'd also recommend a door, a door with a keycode to get in, so you don't have 200 employees coming in with urgent cupholder issues. Also, as stated in #3, very good point, most companies (it is hoped) expand, you'll be screwed if you don't have extra room in your environment.
