I've never bothered to test mplayer 'cause VLC will play almost anything I throw at it, but what I heard was that it's pretty fast, so that could be the reason why you don't have any stuttering problem.

P.S.: This video you're talking about is probably 'only' 800 px high because the movie is in 2.40:1 screen ratio.

No need to talk about nVidia this way. No, I hate them too, but that's not the point.

So yes, I thought it wouldn't be affected either, but I can't deny the facts: I have zero codec packs installed, and prior to installing Purevideo, any 1080p video -- they're avc1 by the way -- would have my CPU utilisation at 80%, plus stutters. After installing Purevideo, what I get is 50% CPU utilisation and no stutters at all.

Actually I do get stutters with some files, but that's because they're MKVs and that is valid for any HD file in that format, be it 720p or 1080p.

I think you meant h.264 -- you were probably thinking about RS-232 for the number.

And yes, VLC Linux does support h.264 playback, but 1080p videos are likely to display stuttering if not GPU-accelerated: I tested it on my machine, CPU is an Athlon X2 5600+ and GPU is a Geforce 8800GTS; anything up to 720p was fine, but 1080p was unwatchable prior to installing nVidia Purevideo.

P.S.: Seems 1080i is fine too if not GPU-accelerated.

The problem with the ideals of the founding fathers was that there was always a 'but.' Everybody could theoretically vote in those days, but some people would make sure you didn't understand some passage in the Bible if you happened to be a black person, even if you were clever and actually did understand. Talking of the Bible, all men are considered equal before God. But somebody argued that the story of Ham -- who, because he saw his father naked http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt0109.htm#20, was cursed to be "the servant of servants" -- implicitly meant that black people were to be slaves according to the Bible.

And the story goes on; right ideals, wrong enforcement thereof.

P.S.: After having read my post about twice, I gotta admit that some ideals weren't that right, such as the one that stated that a plot of land was yours after you had worked the soil hard to produce vegetables and whatnot.

The GP post is right about the usual transfer. However what he forgot to mention is that the bandwidth is shared with all the PCI devices, which is very likely to be the reason why your ethernet card peaks at 20 MB/s. As for the atom ITX motherboard, a Gb NIC could reach, or at least get close to the maximum transfer rate in my opinion, since there is only one PCI slot. The Realtek sound chip is probably a planar device (cabled in PCI), but I do not think it'll eat away that much bandwidth, especially if you restrain its use to 16 bit, 48 KHz sound quality.

Maybe the joke about them always surrendering comes from the armistice treaty they signed in 1940. Sure the resistance came to the fore after this but the country still bent over as a whole. You mean Petain signed the armistice and "bent over," as you said. He didn't ask the French people if they agreed with what he did. Otherwise, I might as well state that all Americans are pro-war, and that they all wanted Afghanistan and Iraq to be bombarded.

Try to run say, COD4 at 1600x1200 and up with AA and AF enabled, and you'll see that the 8800 GT beats the 2600 Pro hands down.

I've used a couple of them, and every single time I did, there were broken keys. And if that wasn't enough, the machine, although not riddled with tonnes of programmes, would freeze, sometimes up to five minutes to load a CPS2 emulator when all I had open were a web browser and an IM client. That laptop's CPU was an Athlon 64 3500+, and my then current rig (which sported an Athlon XP 2600+) would load said emulator seamlessly.

The thing is, although there are offers that optionally come with a number of free SMS's, you'll have to fork out about twelve cents for any SMS you send. Given that an SMS costs the carrier about two or three cents to transfer, I do see the squeeze.
