Last time I connected to ICQ messenger, I noticed that some of my old German contacts were still using it. So I would go with "a bunch of uninformed Germans."
Skype's official client uses V4L2 for video (the only current video API) and ALSA for audio (the most popular audio API.) I'd say they have it figured out pretty well.
Well... The latest version as of now is version 2.1.0.81 and refuses to "work" (read: I get crackling sound all the time with the microphone) with anything other than the dreaded Pulseaudio (the only selectable choice in the audio options is the Pulseaudio server). I did try to uninstall Pulseaudio to force it to use ALSA, but the result was even worse as far as recording is concerned — that is, unless you think it's fun to sound like a Goa'uld.
Funny thing is, I learned about the following concept in sophomore year at university: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_the_spheres, and now I've learned that there may actually be music in outer space...
This is totally true — I didn't start misspelling English words until I was well into university — I was a major in English —, only because I would always utter them mentally in French — yes, French's my mother tongue. But thanks to diachronic linguistics, I always know how to figure out spellings.:D
I think what GP means is that his father-in-law doesn't want to move away from optical disks. My parents still tell me to record stuff on audio cassettes when they hear a song they like.
No, I'm past the point where it makes me facepalm.
The thing is, Catholics in the USA might only make up 30% of the whole Christian population, but they're actually the largest group if you look at all the Protestant sects individually.
On a side note, Wolfram Alpha's become pretty cool.:o
It is recommended that you slipstream the service pack(s) along with the OS onto a blank disc using software such as nLite instead of installing the OS and the service pack(s) separately.
Dude, what were you doing when gamers were unlocking Geforce 6 cards? Early 6200's could unlock to 6600 and certain models of 6800 NU (i.e. Non-Ultra) could unlock to 6800 Ultra. They locked vertex and shader pipelines (now called "cores," go figure) because the demand for lower-priced products was high. Now, some of the pipelines were often damaged, but chances were you could unlock part of the locked ones. Free performance can never hurt.
The most obvious solution is to implement difficulty levels, and these have existed for a long time already. Moreover, you can reward hardcore gamers with extra content and/or alternate endings by making those only available at the hardest difficulty settings and/or after having completed say, side quests.
I've had the same issue with.doc tables I had to fill in to answer multiple choice questions. Whenever I closed Writer, it would just crash. Sometimes, it wouldn't if I closed the document first, then Writer.
That still doesn't tell me why graphics cards for Macs are so damn expensive, especially when they're not workstation-grade videocards. To me, making a slightly modified BIOS for the hardware to be able to say, "Hey, I'm Mac compatible" hardly warrants a $100 premium.
Last year, I was attending the local IUFM and during my observation course in middle and high school, I noticed that a lot of students struggled with grammar, both in French and English. My tutor told me that things had changed and that kids had stopped learning proper grammar in primary school. I spent the next holidays asking around, and most kids and teachers told me the same thing: a lot of kids just don't learn grammar.
Oh well, even the French Minister of National Education doesn't speak good French.
5GHz doesn't penetrate walls/doors nearly as well as 2.4GHz (higher frequencies are more line of sight).
Moreso if your house is made of concrete. Seeing as 2.4 GHz doesn't penetrate walls very well for a lot my friends and relatives, that's the least I can say.
I should have checked its price in France. Turns out I'd have to fork out €539.90 for the slower one. Well... You're right — the price difference is big enough.
For $599, which is around $90 more than the Open-PC, I really wouldn't mind getting a better CPU and graphics card along with Mac OS X — that's supposing I'd want a Mac, but that's another story. To me, the price difference isn't big enough to justify buying an Open-PC just because it runs on free software and drivers.
* Does anyone actually use ICQ any more?

Well... I had seen a lot of your posts on the Skype forums, and now you're talking to me. Hence my reaction. :B
Dude, you're everywhere... :o

This is what I got under Ubuntu 10.04.

There's nothing new about using vegetables as electrolytes, [...]
Of course not. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0669713/
Oh, boy, that was funny... My proverbial hat to you, sir!

My €0.02.
Mods are lacking humor tonight, huh?
ESET Smart Security 4.2.35.3
Eset Smart Security's latest version is 4.2.40.1! That so-called study is therefore completely irrelevant! HAH!
Mod parent up. The truth is, a lot of smaller cars are able to go 100 mph -- even a Twingo I can.
Dude. Intel v. AMD. There's a clear reason why it happened. 'Nuff said.

Yes, and now we have much better music thanks to the loudness war.
